broken dreams // dorcas meadowes drabble
“Are you okay, Doe?” Lily’s voice was soft, but the atmosphere was burning hot. Burning white hot fire from Dorcas’ anger. The blonde shrugged the hand off her shoulder and walked towards the figure sitting in the dark damp corner of the cell.
“Of course I’m not alright! He’s going insane!” Her hand extended out, as if she could touch the man who sat in front of her. “He needs me…”
Dorcas Rose Meadowes didn’t plan to die, nor did she plan to leave Sirius behind but, fate had a fucked up way of changing things, and that it did. Her life ended when the wand of Lord Voldemort was thrust into her chest, and just like that… she was gone. Two days later, Lily and James joined her, and she cried. Cried for little Harry who lost his parents and his godmother all in the span of three days. But, she cried harder for Sirius, the man who lost his godson, brother, fiancee and soon his sanity all in those three days.
Sirius had situated himself in the corner of his cell, why he hadn’t turned into Padfoot yet the blonde would never know, but; he sat there, a far away look in his eyes.
“He’ll get out, Doe..” Lily’s voice floated to her ears again and it made the small cells lights flicker from the anger bubbling within her.
“He wasn’t given a trial! He’ll die here!” Dorcas’ hand extended out again, attempting to run through the long lifeless hair of her practically non-existent fiance.
“Doe, you can’t keep doing this to yourself. You can’t put yourself through this anymore. You’re dead.” Lily’s motherly, yet stern voice boomed around the small room and Dorcas turned to the redhead, finally making eye contact.
"I know I am! But he needs me! He has no one else!” It was true, Sirius had no one. Prosecuted for a crime he never committed because of his last name meant everyone who once cared, didn’t anymore, including Remus. Peter had ran away, the rat living up to his Animagus form, while Remus was no where to be found and that’s how Dorcas came to visit Sirius every day.
Doe turned back to Sirius, his head looked up and it was almost as if they made eye contact, but she had to remind herself she was dead, he couldn’t see her. But, then Sirius turned to Padfoot and came towards her, almost as if he could see her. “You know I’m here, don’t you?”
“Come on, Doe.” Lily pleaded once more with her best friend, and Dorcas finally listened, turning to grab the other girls hand.
“Lets go see Harry, Lil.” And they were gone, just like that.
Sirius knew though, knew she came every day. Because, when he turned into Padfoot, he swore he could smell her and hear her voice. That scent and voice were the two things he was thinking of when he fell through the veil, and the first two things he actually heard and smelt when his eyes opened.
“I was there, I was always there.” Her lips landed on his, the first kiss they had experienced in years, and it was almost like they were their sixteen year old selves again.
“I know, I know. I smelled your scent and heard your voice. Merlin, I’ve missed you, Dorkass."
