lazare, while he can play a couple instruments and sing, cannot dance to save his life. looks like a dad at a barbecue when he tries.
PRINCE JOHN - Does your muse act their age?
BILL SYKES - How much social power does your muse have?
CLAUDE FROLLO - Is your muse law-abiding?
1) yeah, i would say lazare acts about right for a 40-year-old, tired, established, sensitive but not exactly thin-skinned, but not out of touch yet.
2) i think lazare had a lot more social power in back when he lived in paris, wealthy with a nice apartment and with a lot of weird connections to the crime world there. but if he were to be influencing something, he'd be doing so behind the scenes. nowadays he's kinda just a guy, not super popular at mann co. and he likes it like that. being powerful kind of scares him now.
3) he used to be ANYTHING but law-abiding, LOL. guy blackmailed, stole, killed two people and almost went for a third. he's more law-abiding now in comparison, no killing outside of mann co., where people respawn and are fine, and he'll no longer steal or meddle, but if he thinks a law is unjust, petty, or stupid, he still won't follow it. morality is more important to him than the written law.
💕 IN LOVE
OH MAN. OHHHH MAN. lazare is SUCH a romantic, it's insane. when he's in love, he'll do anything for his crush. cooks food for them more often, little gifts here and there (often books on subjects said crush has mentioned being interested in) but, like many in love, he gets so fucking nervous when he's around them, might stumble over his words, or say something stupid when he's trying to be smooth.
as he gets more comfortable with his feelings (which are often so strong they can be overwhelming), he does eventually start directly flirting, as well as initiating touch. think hugs that are a little too long and tender to be a "just friends" thing.
and as he approaches being middle-aged, he figures it's better to see something through and not have it work out than to not try at all. he's really dorky with his flirting, terrible puns and pick-up lines, but also with a bunch of super genuine compliments. will offer flowers, and he likes to put little messages in bouquets, the man knows victorian flower language. it still takes him a while to actually ask someone out, but if things seem to be going well, he WILL. he enjoys making the first move, it helps him feel more comfortable.
📖 + the day he walked in on the affair
THIS IS SO GOOD THANK YOU
The following would be translated from French:
I should've known this would happen the entire time. I don't know how I didn't catch it sooner-- the looks they gave each other when I took all three of us to Monte Carlo, every hilarious thing she would tell me Charles told her while I was out that day. How instead of her telling me she missed me and wished I spent more time at home instead of travelling, she told me "stay as long as you need to! Don't worry about me!" and I took it at face value. How she'd go on about how confident he was.
How I could tell I was starting to bore Charles. The way he would say "lighten up!" And assure me that there was a silver lining to everything without really listening to what I had to say. For a novelist, he wasn't the best at thinking up creative responses to hide his disinterest. And, like Ella, I'd hear about all of their escapades when I was too occupied to be present.
I can't shake the feeling that this was all my fault, however. My best friend took my lover from me and my lover took my best friend from me, but I made it easy. I was never around much. I could never compare to either of them. I was never tough and charming like her. Never famed and handsome like him. I should've tried harder.
I still kicked them out regardless. They'll be happier without me in the picture and I never want to see either of them again, but I'll miss them. I'll miss them.
I'll miss them.
related: lazare really does love men in skirts and women in suits <3
✝️- is my muse’s faith important to them? How does this inform their daily life?
🪥- did my muse practice good hygiene growing up?
🛎- does my muse like staying in hotels?
1) no, lazare has been an atheist for quite some time. it was pretty important to his family (who were protestant christian) growing up, but as soon as he moved out, he already started praying less, first out of forgetfulness and then out of losing hope before one day he realized that he lost all belief in that god. he's at peace with not having a god to follow, but he doesn't view religion as a bad thing. it's a source of so much human culture, after all, it's just not for him.
2) yes! he was not nasty. if he were, his mom would've gotten on him about it, but she rarely had to tell him to wash up. he'd probably forget to get behind his ears sometimes, though, when he was little.
3) nice ones, yeah! but i think motels and budget hotels freak him out, LMAO. there's always something off in those buildings. he's also just naturally a little bougie, being a spy, even if he'll insist to the ends of the earth that he's NOT, he PROMISES!
Thanks to having some younger friends like Jamie the Mech Pilot and such, Lazare gets memes and vines and knows them well.
He thinks they’re hilarious. He’s 38.
