So, Hannah McKenna was the little girl- little shifter- who set the fire and accidentally killed her foster family, leading her down the path of killing thirteen people and becoming a Full Shifter. She didn’t get out of that fire unscathed, but with the ability to shift into anyone she touched, it didn’t matter, right? She survived. The thing is, Hannah hadn’t known what she would look like as she got older. What her real face would look like. She lived the rest of her life with masks-- until Havensdale was knocked out (to sleep) by a spell.
In the AU world they all dreamed, Hannah saw herself in a life that she had never dared to dream of before. She was her real, true, self. And she was happy... It was just a dream, but when she woke up, she could shift into herself. The disguise- the mask, the undercover persona- of ‘Lexi’ that she’d worn to Havensdale, could be forgotten. If she wanted. Now, she could be- she could look like- herself, whoever she is. Whoever she could have been.
Before Founder’s Festival, Hannah’s sister (surprise!) came to town looking for her. Ingrid Knox moved in with Hannah, allowing her to feel like her old self again. Maybe a better self. She also feels strangely connected with those who she had connections with in the AU world, like Drake Santos (fiancé) and Clary Liu (sister-in-law). She and Clary shared the sentiment of missing a ‘could have been’ life and did become close. No one in Havensdale has questioned the sudden appearance of Hannah. After all, a lot of new people came to town.
But what you have to remember is even though Hannah is playing in this ‘could have been/might be’ life, she is still #evil. She’s on the side of the Bad GuysTM and with her (evil) Shifter Clan now in town too, she’s been asked to actively keep up the ‘Lexi Wolfe’ act. Disguised as Lexi, she’s pretended her ‘mom’ was killed during Founders Festival and is trying to actively infiltrate the #Resistance. Specifically, on request from Erica and Rose Cruz’s dad (Hannah’s own father figure), she’s trying to get into the underground to find them.
Behind the backs of the Clan (also including Dana Reyes and Monika Mane), Hannah has taken up a job at the front desk of the police station. She’s keeping this a secret-- her seeking a nice, pleasant, life because it surely would not be well received by the Bad Guys!
