Owain ap Nudd
Twin Brother of Gwyn ap Nudd
When his wife gave birth to twins, to prevent the chance that his sons would fight over the throne, the faerie king chose the older of the two to groom for kingship and had Owain sequestered away. He was still treated like royalty, but without being given the actual title. It was a posh prison, but a prison nevertheless. Owain’s magical skills also weren’t properly honed, because the spells which kept him from leaving also prohibited anything more than the simplest of magics. He can do things, but the magic tends to be more wild, and ruled by his emotions rather than precise and controlled like his brother’s.
Although never allowed to leave his palace, he was given the opportunities to amuse himself however he pleased. To pass the days, Owain spent a lot of time ‘bettering’ himself. He read voraciously - what little texts there were at the time - and garnered interest in multiple hobbies including music, art, and gardening (via an elaborate conservatory.) He trained himself in the physical skills that he could, although no access to the outside world made some things more difficult. He’s an excellent swordsmith and archer.
In addition, he learned how to hone his elemental skills, tapping into the earth beneath his feet to learn control. Unfortunately his wyld magic - the more powerful of the two - was being suppressed by spells written into the walls of his home, so he had no way of practicing or learning control over the magic that made up his very being.
Owain’s personality is both prideful as well as kind. He’s been raised to see himself as ‘better’ than those around him, and he knows his appearance is appealing to both men and women. However, all of his reading has given Owain not only a worldly view, but also an empathetic view of those around him. He thinks he’s inherently better, but also recognizes that everyone deserves certain things, such as respect... and choice.
The ex-prince had a large number of human servants that see to his every whim. However, since his prison was half in and half outside the mortal realm, they still aged...albeit more slowly than they normally would. Whenever one died of old age, a new one always seemed to replace them.
It was sometime around the 9th century BCE when everything changed for Owain. A man appeared in his home - one who bore his face. He didn’t identify himself, he simply trapped Owain and his lover, Calum, in their bedchamber where they'd been found and then ordered the men he’d brought with him to slaughter everyone else. Screams echoed through the castle... while in the bedchamber Owain was forced to watch while the man with his face tortured and raped Calum before finally slitting the human’s throat.
Not long after, Owain was imprisoned in a magic bottle, destined to become the slave of whoever opened it next.
