Ahahaaaa! Wanting to know more about Mama!Lane’s siblings...?

Pearl Cromwell was the eldest of her four siblings, and easily the most hot-blooded and passionate. Partially because she was the first born, she was raised with high expectations on her shoulders. She, like all of her siblings, were supposedly put on this earth to bring honor and esteem to the Cromwell clan, and Pearl took that responsibility very seriously. She not only did everything she could to follow in her family’s footsteps -- to “be her father, but bolder,” to borrow a phrase -- but also to encourage her younger siblings to do the same. No matter how difficult things were -- no matter how much they sometimes longed for freedom -- Pearl believed that they couldn’t just run away from who they were. They had to be brave, stand their ground, and shoulder their family’s legacy. Pearl’s strong desire for glory and her strong sense of honor placed her in Gryffindor house, and those two things are what really put her and her younger sister Lane at such odds. Lane’s departure from the family and elopement with a Muggle left all of her siblings shaken and damaged, but Pearl specifically was left smouldering with resentment. There’d been plenty of times where Pearl would’ve loved to chart her own course, but she didn’t have the “escape” that Lane did (not having reached out to Muggle-borns and Muggles the way Lane had at school) and she felt a duty to stay and “look after” her younger siblings so that they stayed on the “right path.” Thus Pearl sees what Lane did as her cowardly running away from her family, duty, and responsibilities. (Even though yeah, sorry, Lane had every right to run away from that suffocating, emotionally stilted, abusive home life, thank you very much.) Pearl resents that Lane was able to take flight and leave her family behind, seemingly with no regrets.

Interview with Pearl Everheart

Pearl and I sit down in the small dining area off the kitchen. She seems perfectly relaxed, and extremely cheerful. 

Me: So, all new mansion, how are you liking it?

Pearl: Well, I’ll admit I was a bit disappointed to not be in the original mansion at first... But this place is beautiful. It does suck a bit though that we have to go off site for the rose ceremonies.

Me: Yeah, sorry about that. We might end up buying the plot of land behind the house for season 3. But you’re settling in okay?

Pearl: I am! It’s nice here.

Me: Great. So, if you don’t mind, we’re just going to jump right into the questions.

Pearl: Let’s do it.

Me: So, Pearl, are you an only child? Pearl: I am, actually. It was a bit lonely at times, but it was also nice to have my parents to myself.

Me: Tell me about them.  Pearl: They’re pretty great. They try really hard, and when I was a child, we were all very close. But when I turned 18 and came out to them, I’ll admit that a bit of distance grew. I miss them terribly, and they’ve never said anything untoward about the matter. I think it’s just hard for them sometimes. They’re older, they didn’t have me until their mid thirties. So while they try, they don’t really understand.

Me: I see. So... How many serious relationships have you been in? Pearl: Two, I’d say. One with a male, and one with a female. Both were special in their own ways.

Me: So what’s the honeymoon phase like in your relationships? Pearl: Much like everyone else’s, I’d guess. You know, puppy love. We’re convinced we’ll die if we spend a full day apart, constantly texting, that sort of thing.

Me: And what about break ups? What’s your favorite thing to do after one? Pearl: I turn into your stereotypical girl. I lay in bed with a tub of icecream and watch love movies, yelling at the TV. Think Elle Woods in the beginning of Legally Blonde.Which, by the way, is my favorite movie.

Me: So, Pearl. That’s a really interesting name. Any story behind that? Pearl: Um, from my understanding, my father gave my mother a pearl necklace for their anniversary, and she was so excited that she went into labor. (She laughs.)

Me: That’s actually a really funny story. So, how’s your temper? Pearl: I’ll admit... it’s a bit out of control. I’m quick to anger. I’m working on it, but it’s a process.

Me: Does drinking make that worse? I know you said in your introduction that you can out drink everyone you’ve ever met. Pearl: It can. I drink more often than I should, but usually I’m pretty happy while I do that, unless I’ve had too much.

Me: And my final question, the one that’s always awkward and that I wish the producers would take off this list: Are you a virgin? Pearl: (laughs) No, definitely not.
