Personal blathering about...rice? Sorry, I’m just EXCITED! :)
Cut because...yeah.
So my mother gave us a hefty prepaid Visa card for our anniversary. Probably because she adores the piss out of Ethan for reasons that I can’t figure out. Usually, she’ll poo-poo anyone I date (or even just associate with) who doesn’t come from “old money”...which is everyone I’ve ever dated and pretty much anyone I’ve ever associated with because old money? OMG, no. I get enough of that nonsense dealing with my mother. Ethan is definitely not old money, yet my mother dotes on him way more than she ever doted on me or my brother or my brother’s husband who he’s been with for almost 25 years. I don’t get it. Maybe the dementia is setting in... Well, anyway, big prepaid Visa card. Yeah, I know people’ll think that’s cheesy, but we love the things with an unholy passion, definitely preferring them to actual gifts...which we usually don’t need and end up returning, anyway. We’ve been chipping away at spending it, here and there.
One of things we bought is a ridiculously expensive Zojirushi rice cooker, which just arrived on our doorstep on Friday. Ethan’s been eyeing it for a long time. I was resistant because...$450 for a rice cooker? (OK, it’s also a pressure cooker, but still...) I mean, we eat a lot of rice. We’re vegan, so we probably eat about as much rice as the average Chinese person. So it’s not an entirely ridiculous investment on our part....but I thought our little $50 gizmo was just fine.
Well, it’s not. It’s going to the thrift store. Like, today. I just used the thing for the first time and...OMG, I’ve never had rice like this. It’s not soggy. It’s not sticky. It’s not crunchy. It is...perfect. Fluffy. (And for sprouted brown rice, that’s saying something.) And it tastes....I don’t know...better. Sweeter, maybe. Swear, I could eat a whole pot full of this rice just as it is, with nothing else on/with it. In fact, I’m going to make more so that I can do just that. I will never hear the end of it from Ethan, but...I’m in love. So, if you’ve got $450 to blow and you eat a lot of rice....not a bad investment. And it’s definitely going back to Colorado with us...
