A message to anyone who interacts with roleplayers, particularly with Miguel roleplayers

I get it if you don't like Miguel, but that doesn't mean you can treat people who do like shit, even if you don't think you are. Sending an ask saying to a Miguel acc in character saying "you're horrible and you should die" (paraphrased, but essentially what I've ACTUALLY seen) is going to affect the very REAL person behind the blog. You may not think it, but you're also telling that person the same thing because they PLAY him (this applies to ANY character, but I've seen it a lot with Miguel). It also affects the roleplayers when you send an in character ask saying it's annoying that Miguel is occasionally non-verbal, seeing as real people do the same. I myself am selectively mute, and have had a lot of instances where I can't physically get words out, but people berate me for not talking. Saying it's annoying, telling someone off for using sounds and body language to communicate REPEATEDLY (as has happened with @itsmiguel2099 's Miguel) is SO harmful. Someone keeps harassing my friend and making people (not JUST Lupin) uncomfortable, and it needs to stop. These are real people, not the characters they play. Don't say things to us online that you wouldn't say in real life.

A) Why are you excited about these characters?

I think that I am most excited for my characters because they are so different, and I can really get into certain moods and vibes for each of them which becomes kind of self-reinforcing. Some days I might not feel like playing some of them, but then there will be others I have the spark for. I think the ability to change around is in part what has been keeping me going for the past few years- in the RP scene that is.

☕️ OOC jealousy in RP!

That’s a big red flag to me.

I understand the whole, feeling jelly that someone is rping with someone that you want to RP with or whichever- I think it is something that all roleplayers can somewhat relate to in small amounts. F.O.M.O and all of that.If it’s not something that can be shrugged off then you have a problem - especially if it leads to guilt tripping, trying to scare away people’s RP partners/friends, passive aggressive comments and an insisting of being involved in scenes that your character doesn’t fit into or has no logical reason of being a part in. All it does is push people away, it makes them feel exhausted and shitty, even anxious if they dare to have some RP at a time where you are also online; because who knows, maybe they’ll get yet more comments to deal with oocly from you whilst they’re trying to enjoy a slice of RP. Ironically some of the excuses I’ve heard from previous encounters with OOC jealousy is that they’re afraid of getting dropped cause they’ve been dropped before. No one owes you roleplay, you don’t own your partners (even if your character is in a relationship with them ICly), intimidating someone out of rping with a certain person makes you a Grade A Asshole, and the fact that you feel sad, jealous and hurt because you weren’t 100% involved in every second of every minute of someone else’s fun pretendy times is ultimately a you problem, that your RP partner shouldn’t be responsible for fixing. I’ve met a lot of really good people who have been run down and turned weary for this particular brand of obsessive controlling behavior. I feel like it always hurts the genuinely goodhearted people the most cause some of us have troubles saying no.

🤩 Are there people in the RP community that you admire?

Of course there are people I admire to the moon and back, but I am perhaps not so vocal about it. I think it’s great to look up to and admire someone elses roleplaying abilities/characters, and people do deserve to hear it, but I think it’s also something that very easily can get twisted. From issues with people being put on pedestals, weaponized popularity, people who use it to manipulate and all of that. I like positivity memes because they let you focus on (typically) just one person at a time, and there’s less of that whole “Oh, they left me out in this post where they tagged twenty people.. W e l p” feeling.

When I started RPing (many, many years ago in communities far far away) I also had a nasty habit of regarding people I admired from afar to be untouchable, so I wouldn’t even dare to reach out or anything, because a sense of not being good enough would absolutely crush me.

So I’d like to think that people know if or not I admire their talent, but I don’t really make a big habit out of saying it a lot, so idk. I admire people yes, many in fact, but carefully and quietly and I hope that people can just take the fact that we RP as something good ^_^

10.) do you tend to write more romantic ships, or more platonic and familial ships?

I very rarely think about it or premeditate ships as it were. I prefer when they just happen, and I don’t really “count” the amount of platonic/familial ships that I have. I can say that I am very tentative about family ties on all but one character, because of bad experiences in the past.

And, I suppose by virtue of there being a limit for how much love that can happen for one character, there’s always going to be more friend-ships in my character’s lives than romance. I also don’t particularly enjoy writing romance that is purely smooth sailing, I like there to be some bite to it and something else for me to consider in those ships.

💥 : Has anyone ever escalated IC problems with your character OOC?

It has happened in the past sure, but it’s not exactly something I encounter a whole lot, and I find that it’s something that can eventually be resolved. At least it’s a more repairable issue than some of the other issues that can crop up in regards to RP.

Have you ever cried while writing a reply?

Back in my starting days, yes. I think it was a combination of where I was and the fact that I was really just starting out with roleplay and experiencing things for the first time. These days it’s really rare that I outright cry whilst writing a response, but you know what’s not rare?

Me bawling my fucking eyes out over other people’s emotional writing/quips. Now, mind you, I also cry my eyes out over shit like somewhat happy feelgood TV and such so I am really just an emotional being but
