What are your top 3 favourite tv shows?

Is there a show that you used to love, but fell out with for some reason?

Was there a show, that you didn’t expert to grow to like as much as you did?

Oh no, this is so hard! I'm more a TV-show person than a movie person, and I have so many favorites.. 😶 Okay, please understand that all three are shows that I've loved for decades that have influenced me in some way; not necessarily shows that I put on and watch regularly:

Scrubs - This show really shaped my sense of humor, and it has the perfect blend of comedy and sincerity. Very few shows have hit the same since. (Honorable mentions: Brooklyn Nine Nine, Parks & Rec).

Queer as Folk - Hugely influential to me, I started watching before I could even admit that I was queer myself. It's not perfect, and some parts have not aged well, but it was groundbreaking and I'll always be grateful to it. (Honorable mention: Sense8)

Adventure Time - Yeah, that thing about comedy and sincerity? It goes for animation too. For being a very silly show about a boy and a dog living in a fantasy world, it has put me through the emotional wringer countless times, made me laugh 'til I cried, and given me genuinely helpful life advice. (Honorable mention: Bob's Burgers)

My favorite genres are anything + comedy; comedy on it's own tends to focus too hard on packing in one joke every minute, and often times plot and chemistry are sacrificed in the process. Mixing in other genres lets the funny moments breathe. A show I used to love but fell out with is Game of Thrones. I was invested from the beginning; but then all my favorites characters died, and I felt like the episodes started dragging on. I watched 'til the end of season 4 and just stopped.

Shows I didn't expect to love but did: Every Mike Flanaghan horror show I've seen so far, and especially The Haunting of Hill House. I am not a horror person, I'm a huge weenie when it comes to stuff like that; but the characters and story kept me invested - even if I had to watch through my fingers at times.

So as a Castle fan... what did you think of the series finale?

I hated it. To be honest, as far as I’m concerned, Castle finished with Season 7. Season 8 had a few good episodes (the one on the boat was a highlight), but otherwise, it felt forced, out of character and just overall bad. I mean, I didn’t have high hopes for it anyway, considering that Andrew Marlowe had left and the new showrunners wrote some of my least favourite episodes, but it was a rocky finish to a rocky season.

The series finale really was the last in a string of bad decisions. Throughout the season, the showrunners/network’s anxiety about expiring cast contracts/whether or not Castle could continue was evident through seriously haphazard creative decisions (Castle and Beckett breaking up? Reopening Johanna Beckett’s murder?), and the finale was no different. Like yes, okay, it concluded an unresolved storyline but like ??? Loksat was a guy we’d met once, in the second half of the season. And that ending - I mean, seconds after Castle and Beckett are shot by a character who rises from the dead with no apparent explanation, they’re shown playing with their kids seven years later? Yes, it’s very sweet (and clearly meant to call back to the time traveller episode), but it just felt so tacked on. How did they survive? Why hadn’t they aged at all? Where were all the other characters (please, for one, tell me Alexis finally decided to do her own thing)?

I mean, I get that the showrunners didn’t know that this would be the last episode until a few days before the finale aired. Perhaps if they’d known from the start that this would be their final season, they’d have been able to approach it with a greater purpose + direction vs. introducing new characters and scrambling to create a plot that would prop up the show even after the departure of the leads. But the conclusion was truly, truly disappointing.

💛Smoshblr December Asks Day 5💙

What are your top 3 favourite tv shows.

And, once again inspired by the “Shayne guesses” series, would ppl be able to guess it was you, based on them?

I've seen so many great shows in the past few years alone; but I'm gonna go with the ones I keep returning to.

Queer as Folk (US) premiered in the year 2000, and not everything about it has aged well. However, this was the show I needed as a closeted bisexual teenager. I've rewatched it countless times at different points of my life, and I've always found something new to take away from it.

Happy Endings deserved the success that How I Met Your Mother got. It's hilarious and emotional; the writing is sharp; and every character gets to shine. They got a measly 3 seasons when they should have had 5+. In my opinion, this was the new and better Friends.

Leverage was a slam-dunk for me, because I love a heist movie; and every episode of Leverage is a heist movie. It's a team of people with particular skills; it's found family; it's anti-capitalism; it's eat the rich; and it's filled with both laugh-out-loud moments and so much love and hope for humanity.

My closest friends would almost definitely be able to guess that it was me, because I don't know a lot of people who have even watched those shows 😂 Thank you for asking!

Trying to watch Fire Country for a change but I don’t think I can make it a whole season of firefighters only fighting fires, and wind changing and cutting line, honestly. I’m on episode 3 and the emergencies are already boring
