Isabella Viola Tulach was born to Lucianna Galvani and Roman Tulach, but until she was 10 years old, she didn’t know she was a Tulach. She was raised the daughter of Navigator Lucianna and Gunman Michael and went by Isabella Hastings. The hardwood of the deck was her home and she rarely left The Black Trident’s structure, choosing to stay aboard when her parents left for supplies or on orders from Roman. Children weren’t usually permitted aboard, but Isabella was allowed to call the Trident her home, learning from Roman and her parents and the rest of the crew daily. Most attributed her presence to the fact Lucianna was Roman’s best friend and he couldn’t say no to her wish to sail with him but be with her child. It wasn’t until it became public knowledge that Isabella was Roman’s kin that people realized he’d kept her aboard because she’d been his child.
At 10 years old Isabella was captured along with her mother and father (Michael) on a rare trip to the mainland for her. At the last minute, she managed to slip away, hiding beneath a car as her parents were dragged away and incarcerated. She didn’t move from the spot for almost 24 hours, fearful that if she did, she’d be caught. As enticing as it was, to be with her mother, despite it being in a prison, she couldn’t. She knew what prison meant. And if she was to rescue her parents, she couldn’t be behind the bars that kept them. She moved under the cover of night, keeping to the shadows until she found a means of disguising herself well enough to move less inconspicuously. She first tried to get back to the ship, but it appeared that The Black Trident had set sail soon after the news of Lucianna and Michael’s capture had reached its sails.
Using everything Roman had taught her, she stuck to the streets biding her time and coming up with a reasonable (as reasonable as a ten-year-old could muster) plan to rescue her parents. It wasn’t until she stood outside the police station that she learned her father had been killed for resisting the police. Her mother’s execution had been set for the following day. Little did she know that it was also a ploy to bring herself out of the woodwork.
Isabella was captured just after she watched her mother die, pulled from behind a pillar kicking and screaming. Her tears only partly due to fear and mostly grief for her mother. She bit and kicked and scratched at the men who carried her away, banging on the bars which had only just released her mother from them. Her execution had been set for the following day, that was, until inexplicably, she was taken from the cell and taken elsewhere. And audience with the king. He explained due to the kindness of his son, she was being spared. I will not hold you responsible for the crimes of your parents.
She was at the orphanage a week before she escaped, but it was more than a month before she arrived at the safe house in Ostia. It was less than 24 hours after that, that she found out that Roman Tulach was her father, and she was the heir of an empire.

- Emerson is the eldest sibling of the Tulach’s and the result of a previous relationship Roman had which didn’t work out. She feels a general sense of responsibility concerning her family, and a lot of pressure to protect her siblings and her father’s legacy. She sometimes has moments of despair where she doesn’t know if she’s a good enough Tulach. - She still has confusing, lingering feelings for Luka Rossi which are incredibly complicated because she assumes it’s due to him saving her life when she was 10 years old. She finds it utterly frustrating and ridiculous seeing as they only slept with each other twice. - She’ll address and try to fix other peoples issues before her own. - She affectionately refers to Emerson as em, or baby girl; and Miles as mi, or big shot. - She likes to collect ancient relics, weapons, jewelry, and maps; she has a jar of old poisoned darts on her desk on the Neptune. - Isa sleeps better when it rains and when there’s some kind of noise; be it the patter of rain, the murmurs of voices, the grumbling of thunder or the sloshing of water. - Rum is a guilty pleasure - More often than not she sneaks cigarettes, which she knows everyone knows about. - Isa doesn’t mix business with pleasure -- she has a rule of not getting sexually or romantically involved with any of her crew. She needs everyone to function to their highest abilities and she doesn’t believe that that can happen when your mind is thinking about fucking your crew member. She doesn’t have an issue with people falling for each other but, if you’re part of her crew, you have to transfer onto a different ship. - She and Flynn are constantly bickering about maps; she gets mad when he takes her maps off ship. - Isa tends to have a more level mind than her siblings, but it doesn’t mean she doesn’t KICK OFF when she’s angry or someone has messed with her or her family. She’s not afraid to fight people, play dirty, or discipline.
