Mora, Copenhagen, Hov

Eep so tired but should do an update hey.

MORA LAST DAY

The last day in Mora i went to a town called Leksand which was cute and i got myself a hot chocolate and explored Mora a bit. Hung at the lake a bit. Lakes are so beautiful (which is why i went to Mora)!!

TRAIN TO COPENHAGEN

Okay this was an annoying process!!!!!!!! A train from Mora to Borlange then Borlange to Mjolby then Mjolby to Copenhagen. Fairly simple actually. HOWEVER, back when i was in Stockholm i booked my train to Narvik and Narvik to Mora (which was a really good idea!!). I didnt book Mora to Copenhagen because i wasn't sure about times, dates and a few other things and i dont like to book more than a few days in advance because you never know whats going to happen and commitment is H A R D. So i was planning to book my train from Mora to Copenhagen back in Mora but theres no ticket office there? So i thought i’d try in Mjolby (where i needed a seat reservation) because i thought “This station is on the route of a main train route so it’ll have a ticket office”. Well see, i was wrong. I went to Pressbyrian (Swedens 7/11 basically) and asked what to do. The lady was so helpful and called the ticket office. I had 30 minutes till my train and it took 29 minutes on the phone. I WAS FREAKING OUT. I could always catch the next train, 2 hours later, but really, fuck that. I got on the train in the nick of time and was supposed to pay the fee for the reservation on the train but the ticket inspectors never asked me/noticed me so yay, i saved 65 sek ($10aud). And hey, $10 doesnt seem like a lot, but every dollar helps!

AND THEN at Malmo, there was technical difficulties so we all had to get off there and catch a different train to Copenhagen so i didnt get in trouble for the reservation fee!!! (Which really doesnt matter because the train was packed and the person i was next to had covered my seat in his crap)

Somehow though, i arrived in Copenhagen, at my hosts place earlier than i thought before the kuffufle!!

COPENHAGEN

Not having updated for even this amount of time is taking a toll on my memory. Arrived and my host was groovi. On my first day in Copenhagen, i didnt do much considering how short a time i had for this sweet city but i did what i wanted to do.

I went to Christiania and its such a beautiful, interesting place. They sell strictly marijuana but its not supposed to be touristy so dont be a wanka there. Respect it and dont be like me. I wanted a photo of the no photo sign because I'm a silly traveller and i got caught and told to delete the photo and they watched me delete the photo and check i didnt have others (which i didnt). And its something i regret, i regret taking the picture because that is entirely disrespectful of the community. I shouldnt have bothered taking a picture and then getting my head bitten off was rightful- they were nice enough about it but dont take a picture, no matter how badly you want to. Its disrespectful and ruins the beauty of the place. Its a beautiful place and you dont need to consume marijuana to appreciate it. I didnt buy weed or its products but you can. Its still illegal but the cops wont come and kill you. I think people should go there, but i can't stress enough, you must respect the place and not think about it like “oh sweet, weed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! blaze it”. BUT YES CANT EMPHASISE BEAUTY OF THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!

I then went to the National Gallery of Denmark. I was going to do another thing and follow this walking route but really, i wanted to go see art and Danish art. I loved it and saw so many famous artists pieces (Edvard Munch, Picasso, Matisse, Emile Nolde and a few others which i can't remember). I spent all day there and had a jolly good time. Its free, they have powerpoints and free wifi too! I think seeing art in a country is almost imperetive because it shows history in no other way. What the artists paint, the subjects, landscapes, depict political views and what people are interested in. One painting was fascinating for me. This guy painted African slaves and though they were slaves, he painted them as all individuals. Which is interesting because slaves were supposed to be considered less than white people but these people were painted beautifully, painted honestly, like real people, because they are. And it makes sense, the Danes have a bit of multiculturalism (to a degree). The paintings i saw were of some ordinary things/subject matter, but the artists went to great lengths to perfect it. A farmer girl walking past the wooden house. Nothing special, but detailed. The Scandinavians are modest but good at everything (IKEA- swedish, the greatest thing ever).

DAY 2

Um oh okay i went to Nyhavn which is the pretty houses in Copenhagen. BEAUTIFUL. Went to the Queens crib and then explored the Kings gardens a bit. I think thats about it but it was nice. I then went back to my crib, got my bag and left for Hov.

HOV

Getting to Hov was easy enough, two trains. Its population is a couple of thousand, give or take. My friend Melissa lives here so she picked me up. VERY EXCITING. I can't remember if we did anything but we had dinner and relaxed i believe.

Saturday she had working so i explored the town for a bit. Sat on a swing for about 45 minutes and was very happy. Walked along the stream. Went into a shoe store and died wanting to buy shoes which i couldnt fit in my bag so couldnt buy (and shouldnt buy). Went into a toy store then i went to her work and saw 1- NO SESAME SNAPS and 2- NO TURKISH DELIGHT. I dont eat turkish delight, but i was really craving it for some unknown reason. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PLACE. And i probably wont rest till i get some of both. Luckily Germany has sesame snaps and my favourite christmas sweet. Chilled out and waited for her to finish, read my book.

It was her brothers birthday so family was over and we had tea and went for a walk to the beach and then had dinner and it was nice. Danish people all speak English and Melissa/her family is half English so they speak English HEAPS. Happy times.

Sunday- We wanted to go to this bird island. You walk there in the water for about 5km’s i think but it was cold and a disaster so we explored a different region/island and got my jeans covered in water and my socks were wet as ever as well as covered in sand and dirt and rocks because i walked in the water with them on. IT WAS GOOD FUN and we saw a deer!! Went back home, dried off and then went to see the sunset. We made friends with horses!! The sunset was cloudy but the moon was BEAUTIFUL- its more beautiful in Europe than in Australia.The clouds are also prettier.

Monday- Caught the ferry to Tunø Island which has 118 people. SAW THE ENTIRE SUNRUSE. Its so beautiful and peaceful and we explored that, walked about 15km oh la la. So beautiful and not touristy!!!!!!! Hov isn't touristy. I LOVE IT SO MUCH ITS NICE AND QUIET.

Tomorrow i have the morning, early arvo and am planning to head to Hamburg (change of plans not my plan is fully concrete ever but yes i didnt plan Hamburg until two nights ago) for a couple days at 2.30pm. I THINK IM GOING TO THE DEER PARK SO I’LL SEE THEM PROPERLY TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think thats it my gosh. Daylight savings happened so now its a 10 hour time difference and it gets dark so early!!!!

OH AND MELISSAS FAMILY IS WONDERFUL AND ITS NICE AND I LIKE IT. I like small places!!

OH AND FUN FACT: In Denmark, on someones birthday, they put up the flag! I laughed to myself when i saw her brother get a card with the flag on it (because lol patriotism) but no, its tradition to have a flag for the birthday and so its natural to have it on a card.

Not sure if I should feel super duper happy that I got accepted to Yonsei University for the Summer or feel kind of bummed that I’m not graduating when Obama's speaking at commencement!!!

However, I do believe that hard work will pay off though. Considering all the depressing times I've been through this year, I've learned that only you could make yourself happy and that nothing is more fulfilling then accomplishing the little steps to your dreams. And if you are surrounded by people who don't believe in you and support your dreams and aspiration, maybe just maybe, you are around the wrong people.

Life can be a scary, disgusting, and cruel place and you won't know how it truly feels until it hits you in the face. However, when you're in that dark place just know that you're not alone and also understand that those are the times you need to be the strongest.
