Review: Absinth3's Highly Anticipated Retropolis LP Is Pure Retro Joy

Of all the big names in the scene, 16 year old Absinth3 consistently cranks out high-quality tunes that absolutely ooze retronostalgia. It's hard to believe that someone so young could so accurately capture the feeling of that much longed-for era of neon and synthpop. That being said, this newest release is really something special. This 8 track LP featuring some of the hottest names in the scene right now starts strong and ends stronger; each track pushes the album to greater and greater heights. Crisp, clean production, dreamy vocals, and unmatched emotion give Retropolis a vibe that is hard to compete with. I don't want to spoil the album so I'm going to keep this one short and sweet.
Favorite track: Firewall (feat. Lisa Marie Perkins) Something about this track just connects with me. The lyrics are solid; they're not overly complex or deep, but they're not so superficial that it makes you cringe when you listen to it. Lisa's voice perfectly accents the somewhat minimal production of the instrumental. This is certainly one track that you'll be listening to over and over. It just gets stuck in your brain.
Least favorite track: Set Me Free (Feat Occams Laser) I'm not sure why this track doesn't groove with me. It might be the tone of Occams Laser's voice or the fact that the beat is a little repetitive. It's not a bad track by any means, but it's just alright in my opinion.
Overall: Like I said in the brief introduction, this is a release you definitely don't want to miss (and I'm not just saying that because Absinth3 and the other artists featured on the LP are friends of mine).
