Hello everyone! With so much going down lately, we just wanted to update you on a couple things that we’ve both discussed and agreed upon. Although we take roleplaying as a fun activity, we also take our fun very seriously, and we will be more mindful and careful of interactions (both in and out of character) as they happen! We would like, firstly, to thank everyone who’s applied, joined and welcome us back into the roleplaying scene. Both admins had lost faith in the community, but you really did show us there are incredible people out there who will stick together and focus on what matters: writing.

Which is why we’re coming to you tonight, to ask you to focus more on plots that have been established with the bios. Although both admins have been guilty as charged of adoring ships, we intend to make this a plot-driven roleplay. The road ahead brings many troubles for your characters, and we want you to focus on developing these challenges and addressing these moral conflicts that arise out of a mob roleplay. 

We’ve decided to call off the event early, although we will be giving you an extra day to wrap up event threads and their retrospective plots. We want to focus on the plotline at this very moment, and while relationships are welcome, as they have always been, we wish to see a little more of your character in the dash and less about connections. We know it’s difficult, but we have nuanced dynamics in the roleplay – it’s not just black and white. And as such, we expect you to bring a more complex side to your character: their desires, aspirations and needs. We want you to focus on them as a whole, because we’re a mature (and rather dark) roleplay that features heavy themes, and we want you to explore the gritty side of Las Vegas. Although it’s been an occurrence on the dash, we advise you to focus on these life and death situations, their reactions to the crumbling world around them and not just IC hate and petty drama..

We also ask that you keep in mind the roles and hierarchy of the mob family and the dynamics that come from that as well as the level of respect certain characters may demand from others. We will be posting a clearer outline of the hierarchy in the next few days, so that everyone is on the same page. For those unaffiliated, we ask you think about how they might react, if they are aware of the mob then they may outwardly fear certain characters. Additionally, if you feel anxious, uncomfortable or straight out thrown off by a certain circumstance, we urge you to come to us! It’s not just a matter of addressing and solving these issues, but it’s also a matter of helping you. Because everyone’s opinions matter in the group.

With the upcoming of our newspaper, there will be many fun things featured as well! So, sit back, crack your fingers, relax and look forward to a more mature, darker roleplay.

ARC I, BLOOD BROTHERS

CESARE BONVENTRE’S FUNERAL

As the ruthless and abrupt death of Cesare -- the Bonventre patriarch -- leaves more questions to be answered than not, a hint of mystery is hidden in the air. In every conversation, people avoid the big elephant in the room: Did Cesare truly die by another’s hands or is it mere speculation? Either way. only a few know. 

But regardless of your connection to Cesare, the invitation to the funeral comes as a bittersweet reminder that death is the only certainty of life.. it comes for us all, even the most powerful ones.

And so his enemies and allies and loved ones gather around for a last goodbye. From afar, the paps and journalists are vying for some drama, and they might just get it.

TRIGGER WARNING FOR SHOOTING, GUNS & KIDNAPPING.

It’s the day of Cesare’s funeral. A widow and her children... and their loyal soldiers and enemies stand before the Dead King.

THE CHASE HAS JUST BEGUN.

It begins with a shot. And then, a shooting is happening in what was supposed to be neutral ground. Three Bonventre soldiers fall down, loyal and unarmed -- their corpses laid out on the floor.

Three Bonventre soldiers down, the whisper travels quickly.

A body falls to the floor. Nina Collins hides behind a tree, whilst one bullet scrapes Lucca Bonventre’s cheeks, causing everyone to panic. Matteo Bonventre demands everyone stay calm and down, but one of the armed men in black take Violetta Bonventre. The group attempts to cover Victoria Bonventre, but she’s taken by the same men who took Violetta, in screams that echo.

Everyone is in panic, whilst some are crying on the floor, the Bonventre’s soldiers that have been left have hands in their guns, ready to shoot at whoever’s their leader. Tears fill the eyes of those unsure, shock on the faces of loyal soldiers as they scramble for their guns.

There are four of them, five, or more… Nobody can really count. They’re swift in their moves, organized in their ways, and ruthless with their guns. “Don’t shoot, don’t shoot!” Matteo shouts, lifting from the floor. It’s unclear who is Bonventre and who isn’t anymore.

AND YOU BETTER STAY CLEVER, IF YOU WANT TO SURVIVE

Krishan Seth and Nina are holding their breaths, whilst Dai Ruogang has been badly wounded in the stomach and Krishan wants to aid him, but Nina manages to stop him before he gets shot. Rhys Fiori and Isabella Gonzalez are being held at gunpoint, and Catarina Álvarez is hiding alongside Ayla Karagoz and Angelina Thorne, whose ears are listening close. Sasha Kovalenko, Alex Kauffman and Zachary Welsh are hidden in the bushes, aiding Alex who has been badly shot on the shoulder. Carolina Leffon and Lola Wells hold one another, whilst Maya Gulati and Aidan Dougherty stand down, close to Matteo. Natalya Marakovna managed to escape swiftly through the woods.

A shout in Spanish and suddenly, one of the men takes their masks, coming closer to the Bonventre and Cesare’s casket. They’re only a couple meters away now.

“Your family for the throne,” he says, with a thick Mexican accent. He looks at Matteo, and suddenly Matteo realizes… It’s Thomás Álvarez, the same Mexican drug lord who had taken it upon himself to assure a loyalty between the Álvarez and the Bonventre would be forged. He’s Catarina’s father -- ready to take on the throne of the Bonventre. There’s a presence beside Thomás… It’s none other than Carlo DeLuca, standing with his gun pointed at Matteo. Several other men hold the guests at gunpoint. 

Ready.

Aim….

“Choose.”

He leaves, taking the Bonventre girls with him. Everyone watches in horror as the message is laid out before them in blood, spilled for everyone to see. Thomás and his men are off into the distance, before anyone notices, it’s over.

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

Please post an IC self-para of your character’s reaction to the shooting. After that, feel free to plot amongst yourselves with the people your character has been paired with -- are they helping each other? Are they quietly standing? Did they get hurt? Beware that major plotlines that must be run by an admin. You’re welcome to post threads.

Only Matteo and Catarina recognize Thomás, who is the Mexican drug lord that made an alliance with the Bonventre, but has betrayed them on the day of Cesare’s funeral.

Carlo’s presence is recognized by anyone who has a connection to him -- but his presence is still a mystery to everyone IC.

If you need paragraph or plot ideas, come to the admins. We are here to answer your questions and thoroughly.

Please be mindful that Violetta and Victoria are being held hostage in an unknown location, and it’s up to Matteo and Lucca to save their lives. Suggestions OOC on how to save the girls are now in your hands. Plot it out!

TO ALL IN ABSINTHE

After much discussion and thought, we have made some decisions that will affect everyone and any current threads.

Please excuse my mobile formatting and quick writing, this will not be fancy.

We will be pulling our first plot drop forward and restarting our plot with a rather big bang! This will hopefully give everyone a sense of what Las Vegas and Absinthe are like now without Cesare Bonventre, it will pull on many of our current bios and connections, but if you would like a bigger role in this event please don’t be afraid of contacting one of the admins.

We hope this will focus the plot and give a more clear direction, which we apologise for letting lapse in our first week but hopefully we can turn this around and give our characters the story they deserve.

Please refrain from starting any new threads, save any general starters that have been put out and finish up all event threads before 9pm GMT.

Good day everyone. Lurkers and players alike! 

Unfortunately, as you all may have noticed, we have had some hiccups that have brought to light a few things that we could improve on, and we have been working hard today to give current and future players a fun and inclusive environment to create in. And now I can say I think we have found a resolution that is exciting for the future of Absinthe.  Our wonderful Admin Baby is going to be stepping down for the time being to focus on her school and health. However, they may be back in the future when things settle for them. While Baby focuses on themselves we’ve invited Rey, who plays Isabella Gonzalez to help make the magic that is Absinthe happen for what we hope to be a long time coming! Everything is set to continue as we had originally planned.

The plot drop has come and now we are in the aftermath. Feel free to post starters, plot and interact reactions to the traumatizing events of beloved Patriarch, Cesar’s funeral. We will have more to come sooner than you can think. In other news. The admin team will not be addressing anons that have an aim to cause disruption. We will happily speak to anyone off anon about any topics specific to the role play. Going forward we are striving to meet the needs of our talented group of dedicated writers and we hope for those of you still on the fence that you decide to join us and help our little corner of the community grow for what promises to be an exciting game.

The part about ships over relationships felt a bit fake considering the admins have been favoring their own ships over other relationships.

Hey! I will quote what has been said in the admin note we posted. Although both admins have been guilty as charged of adoring ships, we intend to make this a plot-driven roleplay. We understand our own issues and we intend to solve them. If you have any issues with Darling and I’s style of managing groups, we urge you to come to us privately. Messages on anonymous pointing out what we have or have not been doing simply feel bittersweet for the admins, rather than constructive criticism. We’ve been working so hard -- I’ve lost sleep over Absinthe, and I know I’ll do it again considering how much we adore this place.

With that in mind, feel free to come to us privately if you wish to discuss any further issues with our administration. We know it’s hard, but we are open to hearing your thoughts on private, where issues can be properly solved.

How does it feel to have your characters come to life? Do you feel the players are doing them justice?

Okay, so, I’m going to confess I nearly cried today because I saw one thread that made me particularly emotional (actually, most of them make me very emotional because I see these characters that I just made up in my mind being brought to life.. and it makes me so emo!). So yes, everything falls perfectly into place -- everyone is doing so well! I know Admin Darling is also extremely proud of our work and especially our players. We got dealt a lucky hand with you guys! We still have tons of work to do for you (me, especially), but the players are doing such justice, I’d be ungrateful if I said one bad thing about anyone. ♥
