AEW: SUMMER BLOCKBUSTER | 06.10.26
Something odd is happening in the tech world right now: the technology that was supposed to make human labour obsolete is, at this moment, more expensive than the humans it was meant to replace. Companies are laying off workers to fund the very AI tools that cost more than the workers they just let go. The circular logic of it would be darkly comic if tens of thousands of livelihoods weren't caught in the middle.
[...]
The stated rationale is consistent: operational efficiency, reallocation toward AI. But the MIT study found that AI automation is economically viable in only about 23 percent of roles. For the remaining 77 percent, humans remain cheaper. Goldman Sachs' chief economist has stated plainly that he does not view AI investment as strongly growth-positive. Sequoia Capital partner David Cahn has put a number on the resulting gap: AI companies need roughly $600 billion in annual revenue to justify current infrastructure spending. The gap, as of mid-2026, is widening, not closing. So the present moment looks like this: companies cutting human labour to fund artificial intelligence that currently costs more than the labour it replaces, in pursuit of productivity gains that most studies cannot yet verify, at a pace that is exhausting annual budgets in weeks.

Those transports ships are unarmed, unshielded. If we abandon this cruiser, we're done. We don't stand a chance.
I just saw The Importance of Being Earnest with Ncuti Gatwa in cinema and god this is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen. Some highlights:
-heavy lesbian tension in every Cecily+Gwen scene
-the way Algy constantly flirts with Ernest (and like absolutely everyone else)
-both Gwen and Cecily and Algy and Ernest being implied to have hooked up randomly at the beginning of the second part
-the men and women constantly confusing each other for their husbands/wives and being gay instead before being reminded who their actual spouses are. this is what Oscar Wilde would’ve wanted
-related: Algy singing You’re beautiful by James Blunt at Ernest when they come inside to make up with the women
-Ernest taking the alphabetically numbered military directories from the bookshelf “G” “A” “Y” “S” … “M”
-just all of Algy god I love Ncuti Gatwa so much, he’s so perfect and queer and flirty, he’s such force on stage, he’s always moving and acting even (and especially) when he’s just in the background
-the costumes!! The sets!! The colours!! Absolutely beautiful production, visually as well as everything else
-the beginning!!! Algy in his pink flowy dress playing piano, dancing and flirting with like seven or eight different men (?) in suits (this has no purpose for the story except to introduce Algy correctly (and set the tone for the whole play))
-have I said that Ncuti Gatwa is perfect for Algy?? Fruity as all hell the entire time but still has enough chemistry with absolutely everyone to make all the straight drama believable. He was made to play Wilde!!
-just… the experience of sitting in a theatre full of people who can’t stop laughing because every single next line in Wilde’s pieces is so brilliant and witty is fucking beautiful. This is why I love Wilde so so much.
-I think this production is exactly what he would’ve wanted
Unfortunately I am weak for a character with a diary. Yes my little weakling, write down every single way in which you are absolutely pathethic, sopping wet disaster of a human being, pour your entire soul on those absolutely secret pages that nobody will absolutely never read ever. Oh how sweet the possible break of trust, how incredibly juicy the character wielding their own journal as a weapon. The possibilities are endless and every single one more heart wrenching then the other.
Since Artemis II is coming up I thought I'd post my photo from the Artemis I launch
