the thing i cant understand about the "fletcher isnt capable of love/fletcher is only a manipulator and nothing else" argument is that it seems to gloss over the scene where fletcher sees and old friend of his and hugs him and is nice to his daughter too and gives her a high five . like that was Genuine. that was outside of the jazz class, that was in the hallway.
the final version of this isnt included in any screenplays im finding (& this is a transcript so it doesnt have the stage directions) but like yeah he hugs his friend and high fives his friend's daughter and is very smiley and nice and polite and like. Genuine. Nice. hes got a fucking life outside of being a harsh as fuck jazz band teacher in which he Has The Capability To Be A Nice Person . like . maybe him loving me isnt completely out of the question. guys
