American Genius: Jad Abumrad
Gut Churn
Jad Abumrad of Radiolab, in "The Terrors & Occasional Virtues of Not Knowing What You’re Doing," talks about how becoming the host of Radiolab—something he loves and wanted to do—made his gut churn. He asks, "as a group, do we talk enough about gut churn? About the deep gastrointestinal discomfort involved in doing what we do?" He goes on, "gut churn is double edged. It’s impending death but it’s also the thing we all want: profound freedom." Sounds dramatic, but a fun read. What's the creative process, anyway, without feeling a little bit like you (or a part of you) might die if it doesn't all work out?
