Link goes to a new rule being proposed by the Dept. of Transportation - "Ensuring Safe Accommodations for Air Travelers with Disabilities Using Wheelchairs"

Should this be implemented, it will "set new standards for prompt, safe, and dignified assistance, mandate enhanced training for airline employees and contractors who physically assist passengers with disabilities and handle passengers’ wheelchairs and specify actions that airlines must take to protect passengers when a wheelchair is damaged during transport. Notably, the proposed rule also would make it easier for DOT to hold airlines accountable when they damage or delay the return of a wheelchair by making it an automatic violation of the Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA) to mishandle wheelchairs." What's the process for flying with a SD? Is there a certificate we need or proof of disability? I don't know what to expect. SD is mainly for mobility work.

This document explaining the Air Carrier Access Act and this TSA page (there is a drop-down menu; click Service Dogs & Animals) have all the information you need for traveling with a service dog. You do not need any certificates or proof that you are disabled if your dog is not solely for a psychiatric disability. Your verbal assurance that your dog is a service animal (or the presence of harnesses/tags that say it’s a service animal) is all the proof the airline legally needs. It is recommended that you call ahead and let the airline know that you are going to be traveling with a service dog, and request bulkhead seating if you need it. TSA may have you undergo additional screening but you cannot be separated from your dog and they cannot require you to take off items needed to control your dog or to indicate that your dog is on duty.
