On this day, 12 June 2009, cleaning workers at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London working for the subcontractor ISS were called to an emergency "staff meeting," which was actually an ambush by immigration officers. The cleaners, mostly members of public sector union UNISON, had been organising for some time for better pay and conditions, and had recently successfully achieved union recognition and the London living wage. At the bogus meeting, 40 UK Border Agency officials detained the workers, then handcuffed and took away nine of them, including one worker who was six months pregnant. Workers believe the raid was in retaliation for their organising activity. Some of the workers, like Rosa Perez from Nicaragua, were deported without even being given the required 72 hours notice. One union member was flown to Colombia just 48 hours after her arrest, in the same clothes, with just £0.75 in her pocket and dumped in Bogotá, hundreds of miles from her home town. Another of the workers reportedly suffered a heart attack during the ordeal and was denied medical attention – and not even given water. Despite the deportations, the other workers kept up their fight and after various strikes and occupations by students, in 2017 they achieved their goal of being taken back in-house to be employed directly by the university. ohhhh shit. target is recalling their up & up baby wipes (fragrance free & fresh cucumber scented) because they're contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli, multiple people are reporting discoloration & infections. i just got a call about it cuz i had purchased those but i've already gone through them 😅 so no refund for me. but im fine. if you have these they're saying you need to immediately stop using them and bring them back to target for a full refund. this bacteria can cause life threatening infections in children/infants and people with compromises immune systems (ESPECIALLY cystic fibrosis!!) and i know lots of other chronically ill people follow me!!!!

I clicked on the details buttons and it said as of today, we have 83 days left until Google rolls out this new requirement for apps inside and outside of the google play store. If any developer disagrees with their new terms and fees, they will be blocked!

I'll share some of the info below:

Looks like they're trying to nuke the remaining privacy and freedoms we have left on the internet.

What to do?

-Get your developer friends to not comply to their new guides

- Sign the open letter on the site and take action by checking out the full resources list on their website as well!

You actually cannot skip to being good at a creative endeavour that you haven't put much practice into. You cannot trick your way out of the 'knows that your work is not what you want it to be but don't know how to improve it' stage by planning or reading or talking about it really really hard. At some point you just have to craft through it until your brain finds it's own unique way back to the 'everything I make slaps' stage and be prepared to start the cycle all over again. You just have to make that project you're excited about slightly less good than you want it to be. (Says this standing in a pool of blood and covered in blood and also coughing up a little blood)

Hi Apple users, Apple released a fun thing where they take your photos and Siri transcripts and use them to train AI! And they may be automatically turned on without your knowledge, because oh boy they sure were for me!!!!!!!!!!!!

Open the “apps” section in your settings (it’s usually at the very bottom), go to photos and scroll until you see “Enhanced Visual Search” and then turn that shit off. Then go to “Privacy and Security”, scroll until you see “Analytics & Improvements”, and turn off “Improve Siri & Dictation” as well.

​I am an artist with hundreds upon hundreds of my artworks in my photo album. I also have plenty of photos with not only my own face, but the faces of my friends and my family. I do not appreciate that being used to train AI without my consent, and I’m pretty sure it’s the same for others too.

I’m so tired of big companies.

EDIT: I made a mistake this feature isn’t used to train AI, but it does still take your photos to be analyzed by AI. This is a feature that was automatically turned on without notice, giving nobody the option to turn it off or on until they find it themselves.

I don't have the brainspoons to infodump a lot of text right now but the tl;dr version is that it's the three kingdoms era of china ~190AD-~270AD (though most of the popular action takes place in the first 2-3 decades of the third century. It got popularised by the highly embellished 14th century novel The Romance of the Three Kingdoms which has since been translated into English and adapted many many times in various media formats.

I personally read the novel last summer in the space of 3 weeks (just a warning that it is DENSE. It's like reading the Silmarillion but six times as long) and found myself desperate for more so I went on to watch the 2010 adaptation.

I then immediately went to watch another adaptation (which takes a somewhat different approach perspective to most, but I absolutely adored it) called the Advisors Alliance, and I made a long propaganda post about why people should watch it when you can view here.

There are also other related shows that come highly recommended such as the 1994 adaptation, which is still the most popular in China and closely follows the novel but I haven't seen it yet.

(EDIT) I also just found THIS video which gives a good overview of adaptations!

But anyway tl;dr there are warlords and they all behave super-homoerorically towards each other and their advisors. 10/10 would recommend.
