currently reading an article about the fact that the first time Roland Barthes' "Death of the Author" was published, it was in this particular special issue of Aspen magazine focused on materialism and minimalism, and that the essay was intended be to read in conjunction with this variety of multimedia experiences in the magazine, and THEREFORE that we've been understanding Barthes' point incorrectly all this time because we failed to take the special circumstances of its publication into account.
and that's just. screamingly funny to me. y'know. considering what the essay is about.
I am sitting here reading Authentic™ by Sarah Banet-Weiser and processing her in-depth critique of brand culture's "commodity activism" and my first thought, embarrassingly, is that Tumblr would love this book.
finally watched American Fiction (2023) a few days ago, and please simply know and appreciate that I am, at all times, restraining myself from being so, so fucking annoying about the Johnnie Walker metaphor.
yall i know nothing about aviation and yet this question is asking me to assess their financials
In December, Susanna Paasonen and colleagues organized a symposium for their project Intimacy in Data-Driven Culture. Facebook’s Christine Grahn talked about how FBs community standards work, I talked about the concentration of platform power as evidenced in deplatforming of sex (including, from tumblr) and Nalubega Ross talked about sexual rights.
Just realized that the talk I did for the UQ School of Communication and Arts Research Seminar was filmed, and like ... has nice light and stuff. So if you wanna listen to me talk about affordances and situational proprieties and selfies and social media visuality, here’s a link.
I'm so proud of the hard work you did on your paper! Is there any chance i could read it? I'm an officer for my university's pride club and i think it would benefit myself and other non-ace members to better understand ((if not, that's perfectly fine, I'm still proud of you!))
Yes of course! It wasn't all that good tbh. It was undergrad and my professor straight up had no clue what any of the terms I was talking about were. It primarily looked at morality and people's moral compass and whether or not someone's moral alignment impacted their treatment of sexuality. I can dig it out and send it to you. Either the full thing complete with awful statistics (I hate the things) or just the rest so you don't have to deal with math lol
