MUNDAY MEME |ACCEPTING|
♡:Your favourite film, book and television series.
Hahahahaaaaa you mean for this week? Leeet’s see-
tbh both the film and book are really being influenced atm by the trailer for Disney’s new live-action Beauty and the Beast, which reminded me exactly how much I still absolutely love the original animated movie with its snappy dialogue and amazing songs and beautiful soundtrack and Nerdy McSupernerd main character who gets a whole library from her boyfriend instead of flowers and a movie date. Holy fuck did I want to be Belle when I was a kid- not for the pretty dresses and animated furniture servants but for the super gothic castle and chance to fight wolves and some dude who’d just give me a library for not screaming and running away when he made this face
...Ahem.
As for the book, Robin McKinley’s Rose Daughter has been and probably always will be my favorite direct adaptation of the original fairy tale, partially for the lovely dreamlike tone that mingles surprisingly well with her pragmatic style of description, and partially because it’s one of the few versions I’ve read where the Beast’s tragic hubris comes not from his ego clashing with an equally egotistical (and possibly evil) fairy, but literally from a pissing contest with a local magician over who could reach the deepest secrets of the universe first. I’m serious.I lent this book away to someone years ago and not only never got it back, I’ve yet to find anywhere that has another copy- including arguably the largest bookstore in the world, and that breaks my freaking heart every time I think of it because I loved this book so much holy balls
For television series, though- ahhhh, I’m gonna have to say Steven Universe at the moment, mostly just because that’s what I’ve been watching over the past few weeks. I really didn't give this show much of a chance when Jeb first showed it to me and I seriously, deeply regret that now because Jesus has it matured from a really cute show into something super awesome and compelling. There are episodes which make me sob every time I watch them, which is surprisingly hard to do most of the time. Ask me again next week and I’ll probably have a new fave, but this one is always gonna be in my top-ten list.

★ ★ one for kuja & one for alleycat! :o
For every “★” I get, I will post a fact about my characters.
Kuja more or less taught himself to read. While he got a basic education before Neirin took him from his hometown, it wasn’t until he spent two years in the Temple of the All-Seeing Eye in the city of Astrula that he made anything of it - he devoted painstaking hours to expanding his vocabulary, learning how to interpret the context of words, developing his reading comprehension and speed, etc. In fact, Kuja is almost entirely self-educated: his dauntingly impressive repertoire of skills (in spite of his young age) are nearly all self-taught. It’s one of the defining characteristics of his soul: the ability to pick up skills quickly and effectively.
Alleycat is an excellent urban climber, and can usually find his way up to Lindblum’s rooftops with no difficulty whatsoever. Prior to meeting Stari (and for a good while afterwards), he feels safest when he’s up high, as few humans ever think to check for him on the roof. (It goes without saying that Alleycat did not inherit Kuja’s fear of heights.)
★★★ ! ! !
[ FOR EVERY “★” I GET, I WILL POST A FACT ABOUT MY CHARACTERS. ]
★ - Kuja picks up the habit of drinking brandy directly after the Iifa Tree. He comes out of his near-death experience with a spine that has been power-healed poorly, and lives with chronic pain. He begins drinking as a direct result.
★ - Fun fact: Kuja has worn drag many times in his life, but he dislikes dresses. They get in the way, regardless of how elegant they can be. His preference, obviously, being no pants either.
★ - for Stari - He begins exhibiting a natural and very strong affinity for black magic, specifically fire, around the age of five. Before that, baby Stari will cry for hours without being able to communicate what is wrong. Casting helps relieve this.
pokes around in ur things tbh.
