date 16: sexy brit

After Labor Day, I had plans to head down to San Diego for the weekend but ended up getting stuck working Saturday and had to cut my trip in half.

Being in town unexpectedly was the perfect excuse to accept a first date invite from a cute British boy I'd been talking to on OK Cupid.

Even though I knew he lived on the Eastside, I suggested a wine bar in Westwood. I met him there and was relieved he was cuter and taller than he seemed in his photos. Then I realized he doesn't have a car so he spent an hour on the bus to get here. Hmm.

He told me while he was waiting outside for me he got hit on by a dude. He said this happens a lot and it's awkward to be mistaken for a gay man so often. More hmmm.

Then I found out that by "landscape architect" he was actually doing some gardening - allegedly until he got his visa. 

And to get his visa, he refused to hire a lawyer because he thought he could do it himself.

Redflag/redflag/redflag.

Despite all this, I found him to be incredibly sweet and allowed myself to be charmed by his accent. Such a smooth, sexy accent!

We had a great conversation about our jobs in design (or rather, his former job) and travels in Europe. It wasn't as bad as it seemed from the opening statements.

And he picked up our check – paid in cash, naturally.

Perhaps I'll see him again.
