i took a complete break from school stuff today for the first time in months and just had some fun... feels like an actual saturday lol. watch me feel guilty in a few hrs and start writing my eng essay...
this afternoon, i dug up some photos i took on a class trip in ‘19 and played around w a new editing software i recently downloaded (i spent abt two hrs selecting lil sections and filling them in w the paint bucket :’). i have to say i’m pretty happy w how my first experiment turned out, considering i refuse to read a manual for anything haha. only the darkness of the center rlly bothers me. thoughts?

my kanken came in the mail today, bringing me a nice surprise! i was not expecting it to arrive so soon. i will insert a “little” review under the page break!
this kanken (i hope it’s real) already feels like it’s going to be used for good purposes. i got it mostly because i needed a bag with a laptop compartment and one that would not distribute weight on my shoulders inefficiently.
pros:
- the color i chose was black and ox red, and honestly i’m really in love with it!
- i chose the 15 inch laptop bag, and it just perfectly fits my laptop and other notebooks and such.
- the quality is pretty amazing from what i can feel with the fabric. it will go into a “bag durability test” once school starts!
- the bag itself is really roomy and deep. however… i’ll get more into this later.
- i think that it was a great selection with the size and color and everything, and i cant wait to see how it will hold up.
cons:
- the bag itself was honestly smaller than i expected it to be. now, hear me out. my previously used backpacks that are seriously worn out (they lived a good life) are from the jansport and kipling brands. they were really spacious and held up really well themselves. i got a kanken because 1. the jansport and kipling are seriously in need of retirement and 2. i won’t be using a locker very often at all in high school, so i needed something that would distribute the weight better. when i completely opened and unfolded the kanken, it was the same if not smaller than the other two bags. however, i had lots of hope that it would be roomy. then, when i tried to put in a 2 inch binder (what i will probably be using) it just barely fit. the problem is not the depth or the height, which makes the backpack really spacious, but the width. it is a narrow backpack that does fit two inch binders , but only with a little encouragement
*i’m not really sure if this is a reason for the problem, but maybe in europe (i live in the us) the size of the binders and papers are different. when i traveled to asia, i found that problem and it could not fit in my binder from america.*
- that being said, the other notebooks and books and such fit perfect in the bag.
- yet another size complaint. the pocket in the front is really tIIIIIIIINY. i can just barely fit a pouch, my phone, a mini gopro-sized camera, and my earpods in there. i think it would be beneficial if it was a tad bit roomier.
- and lastly, the zippers. i am so used to the amazing and easy zippers of the kipling brand that are so smooth and UGH i could go on and on. however, when i first tried opening and closing the compartments, i found it a little difficult to open smoothly. then, i flipped the zipper cover flap backwards, and it zipped open easily. that only goes for the big compartment and not the small one in the front; that one is SUPER stiff and takes quite a bit of coaxing. it would be a bit tricky if you needed to take something out of the bag quickly (unless it was already broken in).
conclusion:
my cons seriously look super critical, but i am genuinely really specific and picky about my backpacks, especially this one for high school. though it may seem like i rate it a 2/10, i would actually rate it maybe a 8.9/10. im not going to return it because i believe that it will be of great use in high school and will break in and be “softer” in general. if the width problem really causes me to lag behind, then maybe i will return it. otherwise, im keeping it and will experiment with it! if you made it this far, i really appreciate it! i hope you got something out of this ridiculously long review; i didn’t mean for it to be this long, it just kind of spurted out on it’s own. anyway, have a good day/night/morning/afternoon!!
