okay i didn’t know how to make this concise, so i wrote an essay 💀💀💀
Explanation for kestrel Fran: (to clarify first: i went off the behaviors of an American kestrel, but the coloration of a banded kestrel because it fits her better)
Originally, I planned to have her as a peregrine falcon because of her whole “speedrunner” vibe, but peregrines have to really commit to their dives yknow? franziska commits but she can adapt and retry faster than a peregrine, so i switched it (but as always i’m indecisive as hell and everything is subject to change LOL)
i liked the peregrines pattern for her though,, the banded kestrel looks pretty similar. also kestrels are small and i think that’s cute sue me :3
i also struggled a lot (A LOT) to come up with something i liked for Miles, but i ended up pretty happy with the kite ! ( not all prosecutors are birds of prey btw, these 3 just so happened to be lol )

Vultures have some of the largest wingspans, aside from seafaring birds like albatross and pelicans! so i got real curious about Godot’s wingspan being a bearded vulture n all
For atarters, here they are next to people!
I’m gonna be using the averages of all tge size ranges for this btw
The average bearded vulture stands at about 2 feet high, with an average wingspan of around 8 feet.
This leaves them at about a 3rd of the height of Godot, who (according to the wiki) stands at 6ft 1in! I’m rounding down to 6ft even for sake of ease
Taking the wingspan and tripling it, that would leave us with 8ft x 3 = 24ft wingspan
For reference, each wing would be around
11 FEET LONG
(subtracting around 10in for the shoulderblades, based on my brother lol)
this would be about 2 godots on their sides for EACH WING.
anyways i know there was the question of how godot’s wings ended up coffee stained, have you considered he consistently knocks the coffee pots over with his GIANT BIG WINGS
so i may have thought abt this a bit :p. something something i am cringe but i am free something something
mostly a Fey (Maya) spread but i got SO EXCITED when i discovered the takahē, so have bonus phoenix
for the feys: honorable mention to eclectus parrots, the belted kingfisher, and the genus phalaropus for being species with brighter females,, and especially to the cardinal for symbolizing a loved one’s spirit being close by in a lot of cultures.,, for now though, i just stuck with crows (and cuz the mia a drew a couple weeks ago could accidentally work as crow wings)

shoutout to the anon who sent in that ask bc i seriously fell in love with blue jay phoenix. SHOUTOUT TO TAKAHE PHOENIX TOO THO takahe phoenix, you will forever be in my heart and im glad you existed <3333,, (maybe in this au he’s got some loving adoptive takahe parents :3) (YKNOW WHAT YEAH that’s canon now)
but yeah, flight-avoidant jay phoenix still lends itself well to the common-man hardworking underdog vibe i want from him. speaking of flight-avoidant...
Phoenix's relationship with flying:
It's a bit complicated. Basically, Phoenix can fly, but he historically chooses not to. From the lack of any practice, he's an INCREDIBLY weak flier. (That hovering is really all he can manage)
For one, he's still afraid of heights. Can't help that. This fear means he was less inclined to practice flying, which made him a weaker flier. And being a weaker flier, in turn, made his fear of heights worse. And so on, in a loop. With flightless parents too (it's canon now it's canon), there's even less of a reason to learn to fly. At some point, not flying might've even become something he stuck with out of stubbornness lol, knowing Phoenix.
(I will soon be making a couple small world building posts, but) flying isn't necessary to get around in their society. Convenient, sure, but Phoenix realized he could make do without, and so he did. Phoenix, you icon. Slay. 💅💅
i know this probably isn't the popular take with wing AUs??, but Phoenix being flightless (or at least semi-flightless) sounded like a really fun take on the idea to me. His name is irony at its peak. I also look forward to exploring how other characters react to him not flying. The prosecutors are going to have so many cheap insult opportunities.
As I mentioned though, he still uses his wings a LOT, though. He's much more emotive with them than most people. His sarcastic inner-dialogue remarks are also betrayed by his wings lmao
I also imagine bird-folk never really invented bikes (riding would just be annoying with their wings, plus bikes aren't fast/efficient enough to outweigh just flying), so instead, Phoenix gets around on a little wing-powered scooter device (like scootaloo lol) (they're usually made for children who can't fly yet, but Phoenix still uses one)
finally, wow, stellar jay’s are quite literally just phoenix wright as a bird lmao? color scheme, hair, it’s uncanny. give it a pink tie and it just is Phoenix Wright, i used a blue jay since they’ve got a bit more striking wings but wow.

this set of images comes with a winged apollo headcanon (,,,or canon ig??) His wing movements are usually very reserved, but when he gets really lost in thought, he will start hovering without noticing he’s doing it.
Realized after writing this that I never really explained how his fear of heights manifests, so allow me to here :33 :
Just like in canon, Apollo has a fear of heights that is stronger that Phoenix's. However, Apollo's doesn't kick in until he's x-distance above the ground, so he has no problem with hovering. As opposed to Phoenix, who hates the feeling of not having his feet on the ground (at least in the og trilogy).

Birds of paradise <333 Them being of the same bird family is important to me... (honorary mention to the snowy owl for Kristoph) (also honorable mention to the paradise crow) (but i like them having matching ribbons (and the two birds i went with are more closely related))
I originally tried giving Klav the whole fluffy back of yellow/white feathers, but (a) he looked SO over complicated (especially compared to everyone else) and (b) I realized that no other character has back feathers, anyways. so it would make sense he does not either.
The ribbon-tails are similar to Apollo and Trucy's hearts: they both inherit this feature from one of their parents. (One parent is a stephanie's astrapia, one is a lesser bird-of-paradise). (Also of note: the lesser bird-of-paradise also has two long wire plumes, if you look closely)
Tails: (Klav's is basically a ribbon-tailed astrapia's tail btw.) Because the tail is such a notable feature of these species, I'm including it, though they also come from the base of the wing (though I'll probably just draw them as essentially tails in the future), and are much shorter than they would be, were they proportional.
i got very lazy on the individual introduction sheets they're so bad 😭😭 specifically klavier pls just imagine he and his wings look better there 🙏🙏🙏 LOL i hope the other drawings make up for it !! >:3
