Do you ever just think about ace Fjord and wanna cry a little
Like, this is a guy who’s clearly always felt the weight of the things he’s not, and tried to make up for them. No family? Cool, hop on a ship and attach yourself to the first father figure you find. No special powers? Make a pact with a shadowy eldritch being and try to figure out how to keep it without becoming evil, no biggie. (No sexual attraction? That’s fine! Learn how to be charismatic enough that it doesn’t matter, that you can fit in anywhere, that you can convince them you’re just like them.)
And when you lose those powers, what do you worry about? That your friends won’t want you anymore, because you’re not worth anything to them if you can’t protect them the way they protect you. (Will they still want you, if they know it’s an act? What happens, if they know there’s this entire thing they experience and you don’t? How can you relate to them when you don’t want the same things they do? Will they accept you if they know you’re different?)
And of course, it doesn’t matter in the end, because your worth isn’t in your powers, or the things you pretend to be, but just in who you are. (The answer is yes, always yes, because the best place to be different is in a group of outcasts.)
guESS WHOS GOT A SELF-INDULGENT NEW HEADCANNON
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Title: pick up the pieces
Rating: Mature
Word Count: 4129
Summary:
She doesn’t kiss him right away like he expects her to. Instead, Avantika slides her hand under Fjord’s shirt, laying her long fingers flat against the planes of his stomach. There’s scar tissue there, a stretch of boiled skin from the explosion that set him down this path in the first place. Either she doesn’t notice or she doesn’t care, as she presses closer and whispers in his ear, “Do you want me?” “Yes.” It’s like everything else that drips off of his silver tongue—a half-truth. (Or: Fjord learns that old self-destructive habits die hard.)
[insert sunglasses emoji here]
Anyways Fjord’s reaction to the charm being “imagine what he and Uk’o’toa could do together” definitely supports the Ace Fjord headcanon, just saying
Is it fully self-indulgent? Yes.
Do I still love the idea of ace Caduceus and ace/grey-ro Fjord being clueless/awkward roommates? Abso-fucking-lutely.
