Ace Troops
I started this drama about a year ago and I finally finished it. My final rambling thoughts about the last ~8 episodes.
There is no such thing as a good war. I'm glad they emphasized that quite a bit despite the drama being a 100% military recruitment propaganda. The repeated message was we don't attack other and we don't start shit with other countries. I appreciated that.
Huang Jing Yu was born to be in uniform. Doesn't matter what kind. Put it on him and he'll look amazing in it. Walking posterboy for whatever uniformed job he is acting out.
Zhong Chu Xi was criminally underused. She basically sat in front of some tech and that's it. Ridiculous.
I get why the final "drill" pitted the two male leads against each other. Despite their friendship, they have been competing since episode 1 and they wanted to make sure the hard-working poor boy got his moment to beat ass and shine. From the first time they fought, Gu Yiye had started from a privileged position and Gao Liang only had his drive and hard-work. And in the final battle, once agin, GL should have had his ass kicked like the beginning, but instead defeated GYY's team who had all the advantages. Message received loud and clear.
Also, HJY has aura man. I thought it was funny when they had XZ beat up HJY in ep 1 but it was funnier in their final hand-to-hand. Like HJY looks like he can lift up XZ with one arm and throw him away lol. But I get it, Gao Liang has been starved and dehydrated for multiple days... I guess, lol.
But really, once again, Nanzheng just sat there and watched, except that food delivery BS. Ugh.
I had many visceral reactions to blatant military recruitment, but I knew that going in so whatever.
That last drill battle was very well illustrated. I just wish that in the final fight against the Prince, the three leads had been shown coordinating their strengths. Gao Liang and his team in the field, Gu Yiye and his team providing logistics and behind the scenes work, Nanzheng and her team providing tech support. If that was their intention, it was ... unclear.
