I just want to take a moment to thank all of you--but especially @ace--jace and @timmyjaybird--for how much you've taught me about LGBTQIA+ identities over the past few years. I also want to tell you why: I'm cis-het, and by all accounts so are the rest of my family members. But the other day my mom and I were talking about my younger sibling (young teens) and she was explaining their aversion to sex and romantic relationships. And a thought occurred to me, and I told my mom, "They could be asexual, aromantic, or both." My mom asked what that meant, and I began to explain, in short and to the best of my ability, and when I was done Mom's response was, "You could be right." Now we know that we can't label my younger sibling. Only they can tell us how they feel about sex and romance and other people, but I realized that they may not have the appropriate language to describe themselves later if it's not introduced now. And I wouldn't have known enough to provide even a little if people like @ace--jace and @timmyjaybird and so many others weren't active in explaining terms and advocating for inclusivity. What I'm saying is that I'm not an expert, but that I'm the only person in my family's orbit who even knows that a) these identifications exist and b) how to reach out and search and find out more. So to you all and my colleagues in higher ed who have taught me so much, thank you. Thank you for your wisdom and your patience. Thank you for sharing your identities, for being yourselves, and for being open enough to explain to those of us who may not initially understand, but who desperately need to in order to see you how you see you. You matter so much.
Im sorry but i found this way too funny.
