Heteropessimism, coined by Asa Seresin, is an attitude of disappointment, despair at the states of heterosexual relationships. Its increasingly prevalent in media today, ill link a really well made yt video so you can better understand it. I think eloise's story would add to this negative attitude. And so its much better to explore another type of queer identity while creating a better story for her.
Not only because I find it a sad fate for her to end up a mother of 5 to a shitty husband after all her protests against this kind of life but also because it feeds into the myth that feminism is a phase for young women and when they start feeling lonely they’ll put all those values away. I understand a Bridgerton happy ending is a marriage and children, but it just feels like such a slap in the face to think that none of Eloise's dreams of freedom matter because of "status quo".
Asexual Eloise makes sense because asexuals can also worry about being lonely, about whether or not they should just conform to the ideal for the sake of finding connection, and there can be moments where it feels like they could rewire their brains so they can WANT these things, but it's just not possible, it feels like there's something wrong with this. Obviously there are more nuanced and comprehensive discussions surrounding aspec identities and their challenges, but I think this more general understanding of the obstacle Eloise has shown throughout the past 2 seasons when she tried to actually enter the marriage mart but just wasn’t fucking with any of them, and while we can point to Theo, I think that connection was intellectual, and while I have my reservations about him, I consider him a good framework to view her attraction. This is why an Ace4Ace Philose is more palatable, they still have their intellectual "connection" (god help me) that allows her a happy marriage and she can be a stepmother and have the freedoms granted to married women.
i know some will still want to have their steamy sex scenes but there can be ways around thatz show more carriage polin scenes or benophie at my cottage or whatever violet will be up to. there's enough sex to go around. it will also show that there are ways to write a good romance and love story that doesn't have to involve fucking and sucking up and down hallways.
