Rowing the Rarepair Rowboat: Rory Gilmore x Lane Kim x Paris Geller (Gilmore Girls)
Requested by @acelandonkirby
Luke’s is surprisingly quiet; it hasn’t been lately, with Taylor’s ice cream parlour drawing in more people to the town. Who would have thought his crazy idea would have actually paid off? Well, not in Luke’s eyes it hasn’t, but to pretty much everyone else in Stars Hollow.
Most of the time. It’s admittedly a bit of a pain when all Rory wants to do is study at her favourite table in her favourite diner, but she can’t because there are hoards of people coming and out being louder than the entire town has ever been.
She genuinely thought she was going to regret giving in to Lane’s idea of asking Luke to put in some sort of music system to add an extra touch to the place. But it hasn’t made the place any busier, and honestly? It’s actually kind of relaxing to study with some faint music in the background. Of course, Luke went old-fashioned with a record player, but at least it’s not a jukebox, she reasons.
“No, no, that can’t be the right one,” Paris says firmly, sliding Lane’s textbook across the table towards herself, half-knocking her own out of the way and dangerously close to the edge of the table.
Rory reaches out, carefully pulling it a little closer to herself to save it.
“It is,” Lane insists. She points her pen at a certain outlined paragraph. “See? Right there. The answer is literally written out, you can’t have gotten something different.”
“Then it’s a different question!” Paris retorts, and scrambles to find her paper within the mess that is their studying supplies. Surprisingly, she finds it within a matter of seconds, and her eyes dart over it faster than eyes should be able to read.
Lane groans and rolls her eyes. She turns to Rory.
“What did you get?” she asks, motioning to her work.
Rory’s eyes widen and she feels a spike of panic. Being dragged in between the two of them is sometimes a situation she doesn’t mind, but when in this particular context and involving this level of stress? No, she’s good.
“Uh...” she glances down, trying to find the question that they’re debating, “... August, 1743?”
Lane’s brow furrows. “Wait, that can’t be right.”
“No, it definitely can’t,” Paris agrees, though rather aggressively, her teeth clenching a lot harder than can be good for her. “How did we all get different answers on a simple question?!”
Rory opens her mouth to answer--with what, she has no idea, she’s just as lost and fried in the brain as Paris and Lane both clearly are as well, and she’s about two more questions away from compeltely shutting down--when Luke stops by their table.
He hands a mug of coffee to her, which she accepts very gratefully, immediately taking a drink. He falters with the other two on his tray, his head tilting at the mess on the table.
“Uh, maybe because you’re all looking at different books?” he suggests, pointing a finger. “Won’t they have different material and stuff?”
They all stop. Paris lowers her papers to look at the books as Lane quickly flips Rory’s over to the front cover and compares with her own. Sure enough, they’re different.
Rory shakes her head in disbelief. “Are we that stressed out?”
Paris is the one groaning now. She drops her head forward to land on her book and just stays there. Clearly her agreement that they are, in fact, that stressed out.
“I’ll leave you to it,” Luke murmurs to Rory and sets the tray down as carefully as he can without much room to do so.
She nods, agreeing with his wise descision with a smile as Lane rubs Paris’ back, trying to comfort her in saying it’s not that bad. Rory meets her eyes and they share a grimace. It’s not great. Exams are really getting to them this semester, and clearly a lot more than they did the last.
“Here,” Rory says gently, holding one of the coffees out to Paris. “This will help. We just need a little break. Five minutes.”
“Ten, definitely ten, at the very least,” Lane quickly corrects, taking her own mug and downing a gulp right away.
Paris slowly lifts her head. She reaches out, accepting the coffee from Rory silently and taking a drink.
“A break sounds good.”
hizzie for the ship but in the ask game?
When I started shipping them: I think maybe beginning of s2?? like the video game episode? they had so many moments, and I was like, I really think I’m way more into them than I thought.
My thoughts: I know they probably won’t become canon, but their snark and how they came from like,,, enemies t friends to lovers and I love a good slow burn and I like how much they listen to each other and value each other and their banter and the are just really quality!!
What makes me happy about them: how they have both grown together and grown to value each other after hating each other in the beginning and the respect they have for each other!!
What makes me sad about them: they are probably not endgame :/
Things done in fanfic that annoys me: idk i dpn’t read fanfic for them
Things I look for in fanfic:
My wishlist: just,,, lots of scenes together, them being sassy together, also I’d love them to talk about mental health and trauma and like,,, their fear of their future
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Hope x Landon (with either Josie or Raf or BOTH) and Lizzie x MG (or maya, that could be cool too!!)
My happily ever after for them: just some freaking peace, it’s what they deserve
Send me a ship!!
