First Review: The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow
I think this is the best book I have read this year. Which, considering I have read over 50 currently, high praise.
This book deserves a well thought out and detailed review but right now, here are my initial thoughts.
It is books like this and As Many Souls as Stars that make me yearn for more from romantasy. This is an epic love story that takes advantage of the genre archetypes in fantasy to create an epic and unique love story.
I cannot wait to reread this book. As someone who uses the library obsessively and loathes buying new books, I am planning on buying this. I save my book buying for rereads or further installments in series. Occasionally, a new book by an author I love. I also love buying used books but I'll get a shiny new one because I adored this.
The themes, ugh I want to study them for a class. One of my favorite professors would love this. So well stated without preachiness and allowing there to be interesting questions.
I do want to reread this immediately.

The Colosseum teems with unruly members of the plebeian class. As the sun beats down upon their heads, a riotous energy gathers and surges through the gathered masses. “Masterposts, masterposts, masterposts,” they begin to chant in unison. The charioteer’s horses stamp their feet in agitation as the chant grows louder, reverberating around the stone walls …

These folks are reasonable and not boomers. They understand the difficulties young adults are facing. I haven’t read all these articles, but the ones I have read are spot on.
“Reasonable and not boomers” is probably the nicest compliment we have ever received.
On a related note: we’re millennials, and we started Bitches Get Riches specifically because we were tired of outdated money advice from boomers.

Does anyone have any good Indigenous American literature on two-spirit and the role it plays in the culture? Also any fiction featuring two-spirit characters?
The site above has a great starting list with books I've been meaning to read, as well as videos and articles.
2S roles vary by Tribe/Nation, as I understand it.

very annoying to consume a story where the character tells you they have a skillset or are an expert in an area and then the story shows them absolutely failing at said skill. like would just be so much better to have a character not skilled for the task at hand and failing and learn the task as the story progresses.
It's pride month so I'll allow myself to express one opinion on the internet :
There are no "exact color" of pride flags.
I see more and more sites and posts talking about the exact hex codes for the lesbian flag, or the right purple for the ace one, and how it should be more or less saturated and I just want to say: pride flags were meant to be sewn in your kitchen. To be spraypainted and to be recognised.
There are no "exact colors" of pride flags because you should do them with what you have ! Nobody should care if you use a crimson red instead of a cherry red or whatever ! Be free ! wave your colors ! The colors you have !

can i interpret location as my apartment or is that too broad?
yeah yeah rainbow capitalism is bad and whatever but like. when I was a child, being pro gay was not the popular or lucrative choice. I'm happy that times have changed.
I miss rainbow capitalism. I do. I miss when it felt like public opinion was still pro gay. I understand it was always an empty gesture, but it mattered in a sense of knowing how socially acceptable being queer is. If that makes sense.
I feel like a very important part of worldbuilding for any universe with a magic system is asking yourself ‘how would people use this to do crime?’
Look I do. Genuinely. tend to keep most of my hater opinions pretty close to the vest. Because like okay, you liked the thing I think kinda sucked, I don't need to go ringing your doorbell about it. We can agree on that.
But I feel the sleeper-phrase activation in myself whenever I see a take like "um if you didn't like it it's actually because you didn't understand it!!!!" and i have to like. Take a walk around the block before I morph into Ron Swanson.
