Heatwave

Ace x Usopp SFW Modern AU - with powers Word count: 701

“It’s too hot,” Usopp grumbled as he pulled at the neck of his t-shirt trying to give himself an airflow as leaned against the wall, trying to benefit from the cool surface.

“Oh, it’s not that bad.” Ace chuckled as he sat down next to him, a can of soda in his hand passing it to Usopp before he opened the one he’d brought himself.

Usopp shot him a look, a sideways glance that narrowed into a glare as he pouted at the dismissive attitude of his boyfriend. Ace opened his can, enjoying the crisp hiss from the fizzy drink as he started to slurp it down enjoying the taste and fizz on his tongue, ignoring the withering look from Usopp.

“Not that hot, you can become literal flames of course it’s not going to be hot for you,” Usopp mumbled, staring at the can in his hands instead as he stretched his legs out hoping to catch more of the breeze the standing fan in the corner was trying it’s best to provide.

Ace laughed and tried to put his arm around Usopp’s shoulders just to get a huff and Usopp scooted further away, Ace’s smile grew into a smirk as he shuffled along the floor until their bodies touched again. Usopp let out a squawk and shoved Ace, causing him to fall over with a laugh.

“Don’t you love me?” Ace batted his eyelashes at Usopp, a smirk still present on his freckled face as a brow arched in question.

“I do! Just not when it’s this hot and you're being a shit.” Usopp mumbled and grabbed the soda, enjoying the cool can against his skin, getting an idea he brought it to his cheek, resting the damp sides against his face and letting out a sigh.

“Is that why you don’t hug me in bed when it’s hot? Can’t handle all the heat I give off?” Ace asked, swirling his can in thought, hearing the liquid that remained slosh around at the bottom before his expression softened, watching his boyfriend.

“That and you hog the sheets,” Usopp grumbled in reply, moving the can to his neck, turning it around to get the benefits of a fresh side.

Ace snorted this time and rolled his eyes, watching Usopp continue to seek comfort in the chilled cans covered in condensation. He leaned against the wall, closing his eyes in thought, concentrating on the air around him – around them – and tried something.

His brows furrowed as he focused on his task as Usopp watched on, confused by the sudden silence of his partner, the way he seemed deep in the contemplations grasp, a finger drummed on the side of the can Ace was holding as his focus intensived.

Usopp was about to break the silence, about to question Ace’s actions before the air felt nicer, it didn’t feel so clammy and stifling, he didn’t feel the suffocating humidity hugging his body and making him uncomfortable. The room felt bearable at last.

“Did you just learn a new trick?” he asked watching Ace open one eye to peer over at him, a smirk playing at the corner of his lips as he nodded.

“I think so,” Ace confirmed and brought the soda to his lips, finishing up the remainder before he stretched out his arm towards Usopp,  making a grabby motion.

“Now will you hug me?” 

Usopp sighed, his shoulders slumped in defeat but he smiled and nodded his head, shuffling across the floor he got in arms reach, Ace looped an arm around his waist and pulled him closer, letting Usopp get comfy and lean his head on Ace’s shoulder.

“Better?” Ace asked, a playful tease in his airy tone as he stroked Usopp’s arm.

“I guess.” Usopp shrugged “Just need to fix the cover hogging issue..”

“Hey, I learned a new trick today, one thing at a time yeah?” he chuckled and closed the gap between them, kissing Usopp’s cheek.

Even with the cooler air that didn’t stop Usopp from feeling the heat rise in his cheeks from the simple gesture from his partner. The two sat on their apartment floor, staring out the open window, watching birds fly by, backed by the brilliant blue summer sky.

Unpopular opinion* Every Usopp ship is a god tier ship. What do you think

lemme see, uh, YES. my boy is underrated and sooooo good with so many other characters. i love usolu, usonami (more as best friends tho), zosopp, sanuso, usokaya, and probably a couple other ships. heck, i now ship lawuso and i can get behind aceuso i guess. my otp for usopp is probably.... well no, yeah, i don’t have one haha. he’s just a great guy.

usopp just plays like the straight man to most of these people, keeping the readers’ expectations of them in check by being a totally ordinary guy, but he’s also super goofy and aside from luffy, definitely the glue who holds the crew together although he was also once the cause of the crew almost splitting apart. being the normal guy, he also seeks and gets protection from the other members of the crew, and it’s both funny and sweet. everyone else helps usopp believe in himself and also trust himself to do extraordinary things.

some of my favorite interactions between usopp and everyone else...

literally how physically close usopp is with everyone at all times and in the color spreads

like the one where he’s stargazing on a camel with sanji? that one’s so gay tbh

during syrup village, when everyone believes in usopp and tell him that they’re helping him because he’s a good person :D

when luffy and usopp reminisced about yasopp and shanks

when usopp has his first fight with chuu and starts to run away, but is inspired (or guilted) by everyone else into standing up and fighting for nami. and similar moments when this happens in his other fights

when luffy, zoro, sanij, and chopper go to get revenge on the franky family for beating up usopp. i don’t remember but i guess nami is taking care of him?

the entire fight where he’s handcuffed to zoro lmao

when usopp “appears from nowhere” by taking off his sogeking mask and yells at luffy to get up at enies lobby, and luffy does and finishes off lucci.

likewise when zoro protects usopp from the marines so that he is able to speak to luffy at this time

at mocktown when usopp asks nami if he’s a coward. she says yes but i think she also reassures him somehow

when usopp is the one to shoot down the flag and declare war on the world government for robin

all of usopp and luffy’s impressions of their friends lol

when sanji comes to save usopp and nami from enel during skypiea

when usopp is surprisingly dependable at thriller bark because he’s already negative oh noooo

when usopp wakes up the monster trio by saying a “beautiful lady swordsman with meat” is coming

when usopp absolutely loses his faith in sanji because he had a giant freaking nosebleed at fishman island same

when usopp explains to law that an alliance with luffy is not what he’s thinking it will be and when he ties chopper to law’s head hehe

iirc law called usopp god at some point and he’s super flattered until he realizes the marines will be chasing after him lol
