Lucius stared down at his plate of appetizers on the tall table beside him. He’d never been one to play with his food, not even as a child, but now, with his wife nowhere to be seen, the thought came to mind.
It came with several of the territories he inhabited, but on such a lovely summer evening he was not pleased to be stuck inside at another fundraising event for some charity he didn’t actually support. For appearances’ sake it was important he and Narcissa attended such events. Though if anyone looked at his voting record they could probably discern his moral position without too much effort, to society and the press they needed to appear neutral. His plan to keep them from facing any real consequences if they lost the war depended on it.
It didn’t help that this particular event was white tie. Lucius had grown up wearing various types of formal wear, and over the years had developed relatively strong preferences. For events, black tie was perhaps his favourite. There was something about the simplicity and classic aesthetic. He didn’t mind semi-formal and enjoyed the freedom to play around with colours that came with business casual. White tie was his least favourite because of the gloves. Lucius hated wearing the stupid white gloves. Not that he was particularly charmed by the tails either.
Narcissa had left approximately five minutes ago to charm some wife of the opposition, leaving Lucius all by himself. He could’ve found new company, but without people to pretend for, his clothes had put him in a mood. Then walked over some new company.
“Flamel,” Lucius smiled. “It’s good to see you at this one.” He shook the other man’s hand. “How have you been?”
