Acid attack survivors demand ban on online sales after girl targeted in Delhi

Women’s groups and activists call on authorities to toughen laws after two men threw corrosive liquid at a schoolgirl on a street last week

Hundreds of acid attack survivors are demanding stricter laws against the sale of chemicals, after two men on a motorbike threw a corrosive liquid on a 17-year-old girl on her way to school in Delhi last week.

According to investigators, the main attacker, a boy under 18, bought the acid online. The video of the incident captured by a CCTV camera was widely shared and caused outrage in India, leading to a new campaign to tackle online sales.

According to India’s National Crime Records Bureau data, there were more than 1,000 acid attack cases reported in the country between 2017 and 2021. The numbers fell from 249 attacks and 67 attempted attacks in 2019 to 176 attacks but 73 attempted attacks in 2015.

Anyway there is a lot that can be done. It might be worth sending a message to your MP about the following issues:

Insuring compensation for survivors

Ensuring rehabilitation

Private hospitals often refuse to treat acid attack patients and the nhs often don't have the resources.

Sale of acid: although there are laws in place weak enforcement means its still an over the counter purchase for a quid.

Granting of bail of accused: the severity of the attack does not match up with the treatment and sentence for the accused in my opinion.

Violence against women in public spaces

Changes in law to recognize it as an offence to carry acid without reason, and to have an acid attack as a separate offence.

or finding a petition to sign. there’s no good me just going on about it on tumblr and no action being taken.

Hundreds of acid attacks carried out on women over years in the U.K. by jealous exes and stalkers who were all invariably white, British and male = No need to talk about violent misogyny...in fact, so little need to talk about it most people have forgotten it was/is a thing, which brings us to;

Post 7/7 after every single acid attack, still carried out by white, British males = I read on Breitbart that this only happens in those barbaric middle eastern countries. Ban all Muslims!!!

Okay sorry but if you thrown acid on someone’s face you deserve to be deported, life in prison or death sentience. Not 20 years. 

They know they are trying to blind someone and mess said person’s face up for the rest of their life. Such a fate is worse than death. There is no place in this world for people who deliberately do such a thing.
