My favourite is asset firms. Big problem in Ireland with overseas investment firms buying up residential property during a housing crisis and then just……doing nothing with them.

Over 180,000 vacant residential properties in the country. But these firms get to list them as assets to secure investment and/or loans. The money they’d make renting them out would be pittance compared to the money they make off their portfolios, so why bother?

Real, physical houses that families could live in are reduced to figures on a spreadsheet.

I thought it was burnout, or overload, or whatever. But I’ve finally figured it out. It’s; “Ok see ye tomorrow” syndrome.

The only ppl who’ve been affected so far by the Elump administration, are USians. And I feel for…most of them. But outside the US it’s just been batshit news reports about batshit statements & actions.

For all the bluster & rhetoric, the tariff wars disappeared without any effect on Mexico or Canada. The Russia-Ukraine war hasn’t changed an iota since Trump made his booty call and the sofa shagger humiliated himself.

I might be knee deep in a river in Egypt but honestly I’m more likely recognising that responsible adults are curtailing the insanity of Trump. They’ll regurgitate the insanity, but work to prevent it from becoming reality.

Again, nothing but sympathy for ppl who have to endure under his reign, but despite exceptionalist ideology, the US doesn’t control the world.

Canada and Mexico’s economies are still thriving, and Ukraine’s still fighting.

For those of you too young to know, the Washington Post is the paper that broke the Watergate Scandal.

This is the paper that won a Pulitzer for its coverage of Jan6.

For this paper's owner to refuse to publish a political cartoon (specifically because it makes the owner and the President elect look bad) is a harbinger of deep and absolute facism, where the government controls the press.

Not a single far-right candidate secured a seat, maintaining the record of the Dáil not having a far-right TD since the foundation of the State.

They were hoping to see a reflection of the success they got in the local elections, but while a handful of headbangers always slip into the councils, national politics is a whole different kettle of fish.

They did increase their vote share by a couple of points, but Civil War politics is still alive and well, and people stuck with the “Trust me bro” parties.

Ultra-Conservatives are so fecking funny. I’ve friends and family in the US who I fear for because of Trump’s cabinet picks, but you can’t deny how hilariously batshit crazy the whole thing is.

The other thing is the UFO hearings. Coz they’re all super evangelical Christian…and aliens would be a huge spanner in the works of their belief. But they just love conspiracy theories so much they don’t even notice.
