After two superb remixes last year on Stripped Digital & Stripped Off which were a hit with the likes of Laurent Garnier, Acitone makes his full release debut on our Hype Muzik imprint with “Sirens”. The release has two remixes accompanying the Original from Tony S & Justin Steel.
Project Profile: The Fox Snake Skeleton - March 20th, 2012
Once upon a time, I was asked to prepare a snake skeleton for the developmental biology course. This is something that I had offered to do, and was happy to at least try, at least before I knew I had to do it entirely by hand.
Now, normal sane people don't deflesh snakes by hand. If you are going to do snakes, there is one method above them all which everyone agrees is the best around. You dunk that shit in a box of flesh eating beetles, then take it out before they dis-articulate it. It's delicate work, but the fastest and most stable way to prepare snake skeletons.
But what happens when you can't get a beetle colony? Like when your school can't afford to start one, and you cant keep one anywhere near the biology wing for fear of causing an infestation in the already poorly sealed natural history collection.Well, you learn to be patient.
I fleshed the near-mummified snake from the freezer by skinning it pouring boiling water over it to loosen the dried and stubborn bits of muscle. I used a tweezers for almost all of the work, and accidentally snapped a rib or two in the process. Overall, it turned out alright, even if it took a couple of days.
Degreasing can be a problem when you need it fully articulated, so I decided to put it in an acetone bath (nail polish remover), that is a gentle degreaser that won't harm the ligaments. After letting it sit and free up the fat and blood left in the bone, you should be able to take it out, pose it, and let it dry.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to see the end of this experiment, since the school year ended before the skeleton was ready to be posed. Oh well, at least I got to listen to some good music while I worked.
