one of the errands she runs as part of her job is to do the neighbourhood’s newspaper route a few times a month; today is one of those days. she’s lucky, she supposes, to do it on a morning as clear as this one, all blue sky and snow-less road. the past few weeks had been close to a nightmare outside, so she’s glad for the small blessing of a warm, breezeless sun.
she’s nearly finished her route when she comes across a familiar-looking gate and grins, slowing down her bicycle at the foot of it and disembarking with a light hop. papers in hand, she tucks them neatly into the appropriate mail slot before crouching down by the gate and cupping her hands to her mouth. “강아지!” she whispers into the air, waiting for the tell-tale sound of paws shuffling her away.
doyeon is rewarded for her patience when a sharp yap! comes from the other side of the gate and she sees the tufts of fur hurrying towards her. “cutie 강아지, did you miss me lots? i missed you too,” she sings, reaching past the gate’s bars to pat her friend behind its ears. “ah! i brought you a treat, pup! but you have to sit first, okay? siiiit. siiiit—“ but persistent as she is, the dog won’t listen to her.
“high school is a lot more homework in binders and a lot less love letters in lockers than i thought it would be.”
✯| not accepting!
“tell me about” Jieun pouted.
She has yet to receive a love letter in her entire life. When shes walking around all sometimes she would see girls squealing about the cute note her secret admirer sent. But she was surprised that he has never received any. Junhwan was handsome, tall, athletic, and has a pure heart.
She lightly punched the tall boy’s arm. “Dont worry Junnie you still got me.”
this dance was shaping up to be the biggest drag in lim nayoung’s entire existence.
truthfully, she hadn’t really wanted to attend, but several people ( cough doyeon and sera cough ) had convinced her. they had also insisted she actually don “ proper formal attire ” which had taken a day long shopping spree to obtain. all in all, she was bored, uncomfortable, and starting to get antsy. the girls had insisted it wouldn’t be weird for her to go sans date, but she still felt odd skulking about the dance floor in her dress with no date, while the others all found people to dance with.
she had contemplated joining in on some of the games the dongnam kids had coordinated, or chowing down on some of her own school’s fare, but mostly she just wanted to leave. but that wouldn’t be happening anytime soon unless someone took her home. and chances of that were rather slim.
so instead she moved about the dance like a ghost, doing her best to keep the skirt of her dress from getting stepped on, or to not bump into anyone who may spill something on her in their hyped up haze. just as she was seriously considering just walking home, she spotted a familiar face in the crowd who was also unoccupied, and beelined toward him.
“junhwan sunbae!” she called as she wove through the crowd. when she reached him, she placed a hand on his elbow to get his attention. “sunbae, shouldn’t you be helping with the games and stuff? or did they only need your muscle for setup?”
jihoon had been hanging out with junhwan a lot recently and they just so happened to get onto the topic of the upcoming school dance. and as soon as junhwan said those words jihoon had frozen.
jihoon had been feeling something for the other for awhile now but he had never done anything about it and as soon as junhwan said he wished for a date he started thinking things. what if i was your date? jihoon was about to say before stopping himself, his cheeks started going red, he didn’t want to ruin what they already had.
“ i’m sure someone will ask you out soon. ” jihoon said as positively as he could.
“Quit studying and come with me to get some patbingsu.”
gotta love school : accepting !
jihoon was laying on the carpet floor of his bedroom, blasting music on 100% through his earphones and looking up homework answers on his phone, what he said to his mother was ‘studying’. his phone dinged with its signature text tone, alerting him.
“ quit studying and come with me to get some patbingsu. ” junhwan had texted him.
he thought it over once or twice; pro: he gets to go out with his friend (he blushed lightly), con: his mother would kill him, even if he asked, jihoon thought. finally, he reached his conclusion, he was gonna do it after all patbingsu is amazing.
“ i can’t believe i’m giving in this easy, meet me at the dessert place in 5. ” he texted back.

BIOGRAPHY!
i.
oh junhwan grew up with too many options and not enough heartbreak.
ii.
“young boy with fairytale hopes and dreams; that’s what you get for having a father so devoted in drawing children’s cartoons, you get yourself so involved with the unimaginable that you simply become ignorant to the cruel reality that is now.”
junhwan’s heard those words too many times before; whether it’d be in those exact sentences or a deformed ideology, people were constantly belittling him for his normal life. never rich nor poor, he was an only child who was raised on the love and affection of his parent’s care so it didn’t take much to form the persona that is oh junhwan, a boy with goals high enough to reach the stars; junhwan’s heart was as pure as snow and strong as an ox. there was no tragic car crash or any form of abuse. junhwan grew up in a small and sheltered home.
it wasn’t perfect but it was his.
iii.
but nothing last forever and being blissful is simply just another word for ignorant. with a delusional father and a mother who’s tired of constantly fighting for the sanity of their family, junhwan’s parents were on the road of a divorce for months. but that’s the problem with junhwan, always looking up to his father more than his mother –– always admiring his delusional father’s antics and irrational ways of thinking rather than his mother’s, junhwan refused to believe that his two favorite people fell out of love because he’s just a normal child and normal children’s parents don’t get divorces. because in his father’s fairytales, people who fall in love stay in love and have children, and live happily ever after.
where was his parents’ happily ever after?
iv.
naivity can only get someone so far and while junhwan reached his last year of high school, his life became much more dull rather than the bright, lively area that was his childhood.
because junhwan’s perfect, little fairytale contained one parent less.
his mother, it had seemed, couldn’t look after the child who took more after the person that she desperately tried to escape from and left him in his father’s care right after the divorce was finalized. that was right when the cold, harsh reality had finally settled that maybe … junhwan wasn’t living in that fairytale story that his father constantly created when he was a child. but unlike every other distraught child, junhwan wasn’t phased by the real world demons that reared their ugly heads.
it only made his heart more pure.
because his father was a good father, despite the delusions and odd aspects of parenting, so while his mother seemed to think junhwan was evidently just crash and burn in his care, he had actually did the opposite. he learned and he grew.
v.
while his father thinks it’s a good idea to have a knack for something, junhwan settled on sports. it’s nice and comforting, especially when practices and games takes up most of his time so junhwan settles on sports, sports, sports. he’s gotten fairly good at the activity; his father, a child’s animationist, finding pride in his son’s found passion and supporting him at every game or practice that junhwan attends. so it doesn’t come to a surprise to junhwan that his father urges him to attend dongnam because it’s somewhere he just belongs.
and he does whatever to make his father happy.
vi.
“young boy with fairytale hopes and dreams; do something with your imagination and grow. smile at your demons and never lose that hope. the world needs people like you out there, fairytale boy.”

junhwan would honestly be a good fit the male captain of the basketball team at dongnam. he’s an aspiring athlete who’s heart is nothing but pure and kind to those around him, especially towards his teammates if he were ever chosen as captain. he’s on top of duties such as soughting out difficult people and doing what leaders should be doing, helping a struggling neighbor, never dictating. he’s also an experienced player; junhwan having been playing basketball ever since the first year of high school due to having a certain knack at the sport. now that he is in his last year at dongnam, he would’ve excel in the sport; having dedicated so much all these years for the sport. he takes basketball very seriously, along with his role as a student at dongnam and would make a great and honest captain of the basketball team at dongnam.
jihoon was drunk, well semi-drunk. the kind where you’ve had a few drinks and you know that if you have any more you’re gonna go over then edge. he was at a party for the nth time that week and had brought junhwan along with him this time.
he took a long sip of his drink and looked over his friend. jihoon had forgotten what the conversation was about a long time ago but junhwan appeared to be passionate about the subject as he’d been talking for the past two minutes. not wanting to be rude he nodded his head and uttered a few “yeah’s” every now and then. whilst junhwan was talking jihoon started to think about himself and junhwan and how he was never going to get anywhere with this crush he had. the alcohol had clearly affected jihoon as his next action surprised both junhwan and himself.
jihoon had smashed his lips on the other, making junhwan stop talking. a few second into the kiss jihoon had realised what he was doing but he was too far gone to think of the consequences and furthered his kiss, his feelings started to show. he thought he was never gonna get to do this again so jihoon gave it his all before he let go of junhwan.
Of course I love you! We’ve been best friends ever since we were wlittle ones. Your someone that is very special in my life and I am always thankful for that.
I love your sweet and gentle heart, you are the few people in this world that I know who is pure. And you were there for me through my worst: when I quit flute, my slight depression years, and my family turning me into the black sheep. I knew that I can always count on you and you know what to say.
