summary: blaine is a regular at the diner kurt works in and for the first time, orders something a little different
When Kurt sees him walk in the door way, the bell above the door ringing, he jots down his usual order and submits it to the kitchen before he even sits down at the counter. After he submits it he grabs the freshest coffee pot and walks over to Blaine, pouring it into his mug as Blaine opens the menu.
"How are you doing this morning?" asks Kurt, keeping his voice light. He usually has to fake his happy tone to customers, but never with Blaine.
Blaine looks up and a big smile bursts over his face. "Hi, Kurt," he says. "I'm doing pretty well. I have the day off today, so I slept in a bit."
"I was wondering why you weren't in an hour ago," Kurt teases. Blaine is one of those regulars you is seriously regular. Same time on all the days he comes in and the same order: coffee, a bit of sugar and oatmeal topped with banana and a dollop of nutella.
Blaine looks up when Kurt sets it down in front of him, looking a little surprised. "Your usual," says Kurt. Blaine looks down at the oatmeal and then blushes a bit.
"Am I really that predictable?" he asks.
"You have been coming in here three times a week for the last six months," says Kurt. "And you've gotten this every single time. So yes, a little." He laughs.
"What would you do if I ordered something else one day?" asks Blaine.
"Alert the media, probably."
"Well, call them up, because that day is today," says Blaine.
Kurt stares at him for a long moment, letting that sink in. "Oh," he says. "Well -" He pulls out his notepad, feeling a little foolish with his usual order sitting there. I mean, he usually puts in the order early for Blaine and Blaine just smiles at him and thanks him before digging in. Sometimes he remarks at "how well he knows him" and stuff.
"Sorry. Um, what can I get you today, then?" asks Kurt.
Blaine leans on his elbows, looking a little flustered. "Your number?" he asks.
That also takes Kurt a moment or two to process. He almost drops his notepad. "Oh!"
"Sorry, if that's a little -" Blaine says, obviously panicking a little.
Kurt scribbles down his phone number quickly, then rips it off the notepad and slaps it down next to the oatmeal bowl.
"Lucky for you," says Kurt, flustered himself. "We only have one of those left."
Blaine looks down at it, looking rather pleased with himself. "Well, that is pretty lucky," he says. "But you know what would be even more lucky?"
"Yes?"
"If you were free for dinner tonight."
Kurt pretends to think for a moment - as if he hasn't been flirting with Blaine for the last six months - then says, "Yes, on one condition."
"What?"
"Tell me you won't be ordering oatmeal."
Blaine laughs. "Oh, definitely not."
"In that case, text me with the details later," says Kurt. "And I'll see you tonight."
