Solus Orbis Update

I know I’ve been quiet, so I wanted to drop in and give everyone an update!

Over the last 7 months, I was heavily focused on working long hours and trying to meet deadlines for my then job. About a month ago, I accepted a new position where I have been working long hours to try and meet deadlines (lol), but that’s mostly on top of also trying to learn a completely new code base and the way my new company functions. This will probably continue to be in play for the next few months as well; therefore, my focus has not been on Solus Orbis as much as I’d prefer.

Needless to say, I have been very mentally drained. I wasn’t taking any R&R on the weekends as I should have been, and I was stressing myself out with my new position so my brain was overtaxed. My anxiety was through the roof, but I finally did no coding this weekend for the first time in months and it was greatly needed.

All that being said, SO Is NOT lost or forgotten. My next few weekends just need a mental break and then hopefully I can jump right back into it.

Thanks for all your interest and sticking with me. I appreciate the support. You have no idea how motivating and helpful that it is. I want this to be a beautiful piece for all of us to love and cherish.

Lately (like, for the last few years) I’ve been craving a large, freeform post-based forum RPG, like the ones I played growing up in the late 00s/early 10s (avidgamers/acornrack, anyone?) Are those still a Thing somewhere? If they aren't, I'm lowkey considering starting one...

One of the requested features I am excited about is the ability to add a main color and/or additional colors to a user’s groups. These colors will then be accessible in CSS, which can be great for use in gradients or any additional color highlighting for your site!

Editing a rank’s mask

I’m not purposefully being quiet on the SO realm. I’m just hunkering down and doing my best to keep trucking forward! Today I thought I’d throw in a sneak peek of one of my favorite features in the SO Admin system: multi-select. You can best see its use here, by adding or removing masks to a rank. :)

For today’s episode, we’ll be peeking at the forum templates.

I thought I would update those of you outside of the discord server on June, week 3, progress. It’s been a bit of a chaotic weekend for me in regard to Solus Orbis. I’m somewhat mentally drained from work and, try as I may to avoid it over the weekend, I could not. As such, I jumped around a bit but I feel each stemmed from some reasonable segway. For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been focusing on the Admin Control Panel. I started digging into the site settings and threw in a sub nav area. I’m not sure if this will remain the way that it is, but if it does, I’ll put a toggle in place for it. From there, I realized that it would be most helpful for me to connect these settings up to some actual data (aka a site aside from the main site). I already have the schema and resolver (tentatively) set up for this; therefore, I jumped into the ‘how will the form look’ though process and ended up derailing into creating a header for the landing page. My next realization was that the form itself wouldn’t pose a problem. Instead, I needed to dive into the actual creation of sites so how a sub-domain is initiated, how the routes are filtered to it, how the folder for the site is created. At this point, I needed to spin up some Docker containers. I kept it simple with PHP and NGINX. Then I spent the latter half of the day on a painfully obvious answer to why I couldn’t get the routes to work correctly with sub-domains versus the main domain. BUT ALAS I FIGURED IT OUT. T_T’ I am able to return the name of the sub-domains now, which will pave the way for next weekend where I need to begin the verification process or otherwise a 404 is returned.
