Thorne of Glass

The title of this post is actually Throne of Glass (see P.S.S)

Hey guys! Today I will be reviewing Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Mass. I read this book mostly because I will be meeting Sarah in May, and almost everyone I know recommended it to me. I can honestly say that I wish I read it sooner. I am bouncing in my seat waiting for the next instalment to be available in my local library. Let's get to it!

The very first thing I fell in love with in this story was the plot line. I loved the aspect of a female assassin with more than what catches the eye. In the beginning I said to myself, "Oh not another Hunger Games please", but I was surprised when it became so much more. The plot line webbed into other mysteries that I am dying to find out. This makes these books different than wrongly over-hyped books, it has more than one purpose or missing puzzle piece for that matter.

Another thing that worried/excited me were all of the possible love interests. It seemed more like a love pentagon than a love triangle (Feel free to laugh awkwardly at my bad jokes). SO many ships sailing. By the end of the book there were only two very prominent love interests....but no spoilers for you. Really, you should just read the book.

Even though it was a slow start, once exams and slumps were over, I flew through this book. It was also a nice mood for anyone who has been feeling deprived of any fantasy/mysteries. I don't read an abundant amount of fantasy so this book got me into the mood for more. That's another thing, I always wanted more. Even if the major events seemed at times, repetitive, I still wanted more. Her writing style was simple yet elegant and her characters, with further development to come, were humorous and relatable.

I loved this book, I hope you will too if you give it a shot!

The Treachery of Beautiful Things Conclusion

Hey guys! Despite all of the outrageous homework my teachers have so graciously assigned to me *insert sarcastic smile here*, I will be writing my review for The Treachery of Beautiful Things.

Before I begin my review, I just want to provide you with a brief synopsis. No worries, no spoilers here. This fantasy novel revolves around a girl named Jenny. Jenny and her brother Tom were casually walking along a path near the edge of a wood when an unknown creature made of wood and thorns snatched Tom and dragged him into the forest. Jenny was misunderstood by her family because no one would believe her story. After years of fear, Jenny worked up the courage to go near the same forest that practically ate her brother. She heard the same tune he was playing when he was taken, and suddenly overcome with the longing to find her brother; Jenny entered into the forest with no idea of what beautiful and treacherous things laid behind it.  I really enjoyed this novel for many reasons, and with any book, I had some reasons for disliking it. Fortunately there weren’t many. Let’s get started! For starters, I would like to mention the cover.

When I first picked up this book, the cover captivated me. After reading the book, the cover gave me no satisfaction whatsoever. I am not a person who likes covers with faces on them and this is one of the reasons why. I like to imagine the characters myself and turning back to this cover, I felt no correlation. If you decide to read this book, you will get to experience Long’s description of Jenny’s dress shown on the cover, her description was a dress entirely made out of nature and magic created from nature. Not to be harsh, but that looks like a wedding dress with some flowers. Long’s beautiful descriptions deserved better than that!  Speaking of descriptions, I would just like to applaud Ruth for her wonderful writing.  With fantasy, if the author is not descriptive enough, the story just dies. This was not the case. Long’s writing and diction were perfect for each character she introduced and also for setting the tone of this fantasy world. Again, I mention her allusions back to Shakespeare which I just loved because it felt like an inside joke for all of the Shakespeare fans out there. These extra character traits developed her characters to a new level. She also uses metaphors in her writing which captivates readers especially in works of fantasy. I enjoyed the ending although it seemed a little to “happily ever after” for such a dark book. The biggest element in this novel is the title. The title is the theme in so many ways. Jenny is introduced to all of these magical creatures and concepts, that she is naïve to and forgets that beautiful things have a treacherous side. I literally cannot explain how many times this theme re-surfaced in this novel. You just need to read this book. Take off the dust jacket and read! I hope you enjoyed this book review; I have to cut myself off now because if I don’t, I’ll never stop typing. Next month I will begin to read and review........

Preview: The Treachery of Beautiful Things

Hello everyone! Today is Wednesday and that means that this teenage bookaholic is here to spread the love of books with all of you! This post will be an update on my readings of this month’s book review: The Treachery of Beautiful Things, written by Ruth Frances Long. 

I picked up this read at a discount store and, to be honest, it sat on my shelves for a while. One day, I was really feeling fantasy because I hadn’t read the genre in a while and it was also my next reading challenge for 2015.

This book took about a day and a half to read and I found myself completely rapt. The fantasy world introduced was quite fascinating. Of course I’ll get more in depth in my full review hopefully coming to you very soon. Long’s characters alluded to the works of Shakespeare which caught my attention and gave the novel a new complexity. I can’t wait to give a more in depth review on this story.

This was just a preview to what I will be reviewing hopefully soon.  I just want to say that I am thrilled to be working with this blog and I think that it is going really well so far. See yah on Saturday!
