SCAG. TONIGHT in LA
Some beasts including my good homie master painter Christine Wang are collaborators in a collective called SCAG . Peep:
The Action Bureau is proud to present The Sunday Scag at Black Box Tuesday January 24th at 10:00 pm 830 North Highland Ave., Los Angeles, CA Also performing is Paul Waddell and Margie Schnibbe. The Sunday Scag Los Angeles based artists Michael Decker, Gustavo Herrera and Christine Wang produce video, performance, and visual art as the collaborative group The Sunday Scag. The word "Scag" comes from a combination of "scatalogical" and a colloquial shortening of the word "casual.” The Sunday Scag roots their videos, costumes, and assorted objects in low-fi ephemera and psycho-sexual ritualistic magik. The collective compresses and conflates images and objects from diverse mass cultural sources into fetishized idolatry of gluttonous human physical and metaphysical excess. Through an alchemical process of art-making the Sunday Scag produces a counter-energy that displaces the scatological by means of ritualized performance. Organized by Liz Glynn as part of the Pacific Standard Time Performance and Public Art Festival http://pacificstandardtimefestival.org/events/black-box-by-liz-glynn/ The Action Bureau a curatorial collective dedicated to furthering the discourse connecting contemporary and historical performance art. Founded in Los Angeles by artists Parker Davis and Paul Waddell, and subsequently joined by Catherine Taft, the group aims to re-establish the boundaries between the specific discipline of action-based, body-centric performance art and those of the performative arts(music, dance, theater, spoken word). http://actionbureau.tumblr.com/
