Last week's training walk around the heathlands and woodlands.
Sometimes it's nice to simply explore more familiar territory and see it in a different way.

23.5km!
So Monday's walk left me with shin splints and sore calves, so yesterday I took a day off for gentle exercises and stretches and today I managed to walk through it and reached half of my goal distance!
My final walk at the end of May is 44km so going beyond 22km today was a huge milestone!
Tomorrow will be another rest day and then on Friday I think I'll go for a 25-27km walk.
Highlights of today: a baby bunny, a dog who begged me to play fetch, and the surprise field of adders - which thankfully I Did Not Encounter.

I've taken nine days off work to do some intense training before the hike on the 30th, and I started off with 15.5km this morning through the forest. I kept up my 6.1km/hour average and added in more hills to prepare for the South Downs.
I love walking in the forest after it has rained because everything is so much more vibrant. The tree trunks are blacker, the leaves are greener, the vegetation is redder. The whole forest was carpeted in bluebells.
Animals I saw: So Many Dogs!! A few pups came up to say hi to me, including a black Lab, a very shaggy Alsation, and the drooliest Boxer I've ever met. Unique sighting of the day: a rat. Cats and squirrels seemed to be taking shelter from the rain but I did see several ducks.

*UPDATE*
During my training for my charity walk a couple of weeks ago, I injured my hip and calf which meant I could no longer take part in the walk I was registered for with Action Challenge.
I've just had confirmation that I've been switched to the South Coast Challenge on 4th September instead, which is a slightly longer walk at 55km.
To everyone who has donated to my fundraiser for Amnesty International so far - thank you so much! I will be creating a new JustGiving page and making a note of the donations on there (Amnesty have already received the money).
For the next 100 days I'm going to focus on rebuilding my core strength with physio and then forming a new, longer-term training plan to get my fitness and stability up to the task.
Thanks everyone for your support so far!
