some stories begin not with grand declarations, but with the quiet comfort of walking beside someone who makes the journey feel shorter. for jinu, those evenings become a sanctuary—filled with shared laughter, humble gifts, and the hope that tomorrow will bring another walk together. yet beyond the warmth of blooming gardens and flickering lanterns, another path is already unfolding. one walked by unseen footsteps, patient smiles, and a darkness that has quietly learned his name.

jinu walked beside her. they'd fallen into this little routine over the past few weeks, their steps unhurried, almost intentionally slow. neither of them ever seemed eager to reach their destination. he'd never admit it out loud, but he genuinely liked being around her. it was moments like these that made him wish for more time—for more chances to be something more than just the guy who walked her home with a quiet crush tucked safely in his chest.
the trellises of gourds surround them as they walk past the rice fields, entering her community. children ran with paper dolls as mothers called out for them to come home. the horizon, now a dark blue and gold gradient. there breeze was getting cooler and as if by chance, she felt a chill run through maling her hug her robe.
"thank you for walking me home… we're quite a ways out, as you can see."
"i've walked farther than this," he says with a shrug. "besides, i've always wanted to see this part of the city."
"you've never been outside the walls?"
"not really. never had the time." he rubs the back of his neck, a little sheepish.
"well…" she turns toward the modest house behind her. "this is my humble abode. i spend most of my days tending the garden too whenever i'm not out running errands." her eyes brighten. "oh! that reminds me." she hurries over to the shed and returns with a woven basket brimming with freshly picked vegetables.
"these are for your mother," she says, holding it out to him. "think of it as my way of thanking her for all the tteok she's tehcnically given me. she never lets me pay for any of it."
"she'll insist you didn't have to do this," he says with a small laugh, taking the basket carefully. "but thank you. i'll make sure she gets them."
he slips the basket into the cloth satchel hanging beside his bipa, careful not to jostle the vegetables. once he's sure everything is secure, he adjusts the instrument across his back. the polished wood catches the last rays of the evening sun, the strings giving the faintest hum as it settles against his shoulder.
a cool breeze drifts through the garden, carrying the scent of freshly turned earth and blooming flowers. somewhere beyond the fields, cicadas had already begun their evening chorus.
"i should head back," he says, glancing toward the road leading in to the city. "my mother will start wondering where i've wandered off to."
"then i won't keep you any longer." she folds her hands neatly before her. "it's a bit of a long walk."
"i don't mind the distance."
the words leave his mouth before he can stop them.
she tilts her head. "you don't?"
he clears his throat, the tips of his ears warming. "it… doesn't feel so far when i have good company."
for a heartbeat, neither of them speaks.
a smile slowly finds its way onto her lips, gentle enough to make him wish the sun would linger just a little longer.
"i'll remember that."
he lets out a quiet breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding, a sheepish grin tugging at the corner of his mouth.
"well… good night."
"good night, jinu."
she remains beneath the wooden gate as he turns to leave, one hand resting lightly against its weathered frame. he walks a few paces down the dirt path before something compels him to look back.
she's still there.
the fading light paints her silhouette in gold, the breeze teasing loose strands of her hair as she lifts a hand in one last wave.
he returns it without thinking.
only when the gate finally slips from view does he allow the smile on his face to grow.
somehow, the road home feels shorter than it ever has.
the path back to the palace city had grown quieter by the time jinu left the village behind. dusk had given way to evening, the sky awash in deep indigo with only a faint ribbon of amber clinging to the horizon. lanterns, hung at measured intervals along the roadside, flickered to life one by one, their warm glow guiding weary travelers home.
his footsteps were unhurried.
every so often, his fingers brushed against the neck of the bipa resting across his back, as though reassuring himself it was still there. the basket of vegetables swayed lightly at his side with each step.
a cool breeze swept through the trees, rustling the leaves overhead and carrying with it the scent of wild grass and damp earth.
he found himself smiling.
it was small at first, barely noticeable.
then it lingered.
the memory of her laugh replayed in his mind, followed by the image of her waiting beneath the gate long after he'd turned away. he let out a quiet chuckle, shaking his head at himself.
"what's gotten into me…"
the words disappeared into the evening air. another breeze passed, colder this time.
the lantern flames quivered.
jinu slowed.
the warmth he'd been carrying moments ago gave way to an odd stillness. even the chorus of insects seemed to fade, swallowed by a silence that settled far too quickly.
then—
"jinu."
it wasn't loud.
it barely rose above the whisper of the wind.
yet he heard it as clearly as if someone had spoken beside his ear.
his smile vanished.
he stopped where he stood, eyes narrowing as they swept across the empty road.
"…who's there?"
no answer.
only the soft sway of lantern light and the whispering trees. he waited a moment longer before exhaling through his nose. "must've imagined it…" so he took another step.
"jinu."
the voice came again. closer. clearer.
carried not by the road—
but by the wind itself.
jinu quickened his pace.
the voice did not follow.
still, the unease clung to him like the evening mist, prickling at the back of his neck with every step. he kept his eyes fixed on the road ahead until the familiar silhouette of the city walls finally emerged from the darkness.
relief settled in his chest.
just outside the gates, tucked beneath the shadow of the towering stone ramparts, stood a humble roadside tavern. its paper lanterns cast warm pools of light onto the packed earth below, and laughter spilled through the open doorway, mingling with the clatter of bowls and cups.
travelers stopped there before returning home. merchants rested their feet after long days on the road. soldiers fresh off patrol shared drinks before reporting back inside the city. the smell of grilled fish, roasted chestnuts, and steaming broth drifted out into the cool night air.
jinu didn't think twice.
he slipped inside.
warmth embraced him at once.
conversation buzzed from every corner of the tavern. an elderly man recounted a tale that grew more unbelievable with each retelling, earning groans and laughter from the table around him. two merchants argued good-naturedly over the price of silk while a serving girl weaved between crowded tables with practiced ease, balancing trays of food without spilling a drop. somewhere near the hearth, a pair of travelers had begun singing an old folk tune, their voices slightly slurred but spirited enough for others to clap along.
it was loud. ordinary. alive. exactly what he needed.
letting out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding, jinu crossed the room and settled onto an empty stool at the wooden counter. he carefully leaned his bipa against the side of the bar, one hand lingering on its polished frame before signaling to the barkeep.
"a bowl of sikhye, please."
the barkeep gave a nod and disappeared behind rows of earthen jars.
jinu rubbed his palms together, hoping to shake off the lingering chill. he told himself it had only been the wind. a tired mind after a long day. nothing more.
yet, even surrounded by warm lantern light and the comfort of familiar voices, he couldn't stop glancing toward the tavern's open doorway.
the sharp scrape of ceramic against wood pulled him from his thoughts. "your sikhye."
the innkeeper slid a wide earthenware bowl across the counter. bits of cooked rice floated lazily on the sweet, amber-colored drink, its warmth sending thin curls of steam into the air.
"thank you."
jinu wrapped both hands around the bowl, welcoming the heat against his chilled fingers before taking a careful sip. the familiar sweetness settled him, easing the knot that had quietly formed in his chest.
the innkeeper, a broad-shouldered man with sleeves rolled to his elbows, wiped down a stack of cups with a worn cloth.
"you're out later than usual."
jinu looked up.
"am i?"
"i've seen you pass these gates often enough." the man chuckled. "usually you're in a hurry to get home. tonight…" his eyes drifted to the bipa resting beside the counter before returning to jinu's face. "…you look like someone who's in no rush at all."
jinu let out a quiet laugh through his nose. "i suppose i took the longer road."
"something worth seeing out there?"
his fingers traced the rim of the bowl. for a moment, he simply watched the ripples in the sikhye. "…i walked someone home."
"ah." the innkeeper's grin spread without another word.
jinu felt his ears grow warm. "it wasn't like that."
"i didn't say a thing."
"…you didn't have to." the older man laughed, low and knowing, before leaning against the counter. "and was she worth the extra miles?"
jinu didn't answer right away. instead, a small smile found him again, softer than before. "…i'd have walked twice the distance."
the innkeeper gave a satisfied hum, as though he'd heard the answer long before it was spoken. "young hearts have a habit of making long roads seem short."
jinu lowered his gaze to the bowl in front of him, unable to hide the smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
jinu lowered his gaze, hiding behind another sip of sikhye. the sweetness lingered on his tongue, though his thoughts were still somewhere beyond the city walls, standing beneath a weathered wooden gate.
the scrape of a stool against the floor broke the moment.
someone had taken the seat beside him.
the stranger moved with quiet confidence, neither hurried nor hesitant. a traveler's robe of dark, unremarkable cloth hung loosely from his frame, the kind that drew little attention in a crowd. his face was handsome in a way that was difficult to place, neither young nor old, his sharp features softened by an easy smile that never quite reached his eyes.
"another drink," he said, setting a few coins on the counter.
his voice was smooth. pleasant. almost too pleasant.
the innkeeper nodded and reached for an earthen bottle.
"sounds like someone's found a reason to enjoy the long walk home," the stranger remarked casually, his gaze fixed on the shelves behind the counter.
jinu stiffened.
"i wasn't trying to eavesdrop," the man added with a faint chuckle. "hard not to overhear in a place this small."
"it's nothing," jinu replied.
"is it?"
the stranger accepted his drink with a grateful nod before taking an unhurried sip.
"people don't smile like that over nothing."
jinu offered only a polite smile in return, choosing silence instead.
the stranger didn't seem bothered.
"you play?" he asked, his eyes drifting to the bipa resting against the counter.
"a little."
"a little?" he echoed. "you carry it like an old friend."
jinu instinctively rested a hand on the instrument.
"it's been with me for years."
"then it must have quite a few stories to tell."
The innkeeper smirked as he polished another bowl. "this lad's full of stories himself. always passing through, always with somewhere to be."
"is that so?" the stranger asked, finally turning to face jinu.
his eyes were strangely captivating, dark as still water.
"what's your name?"
jinu hesitated only a heartbeat. "…jinu."
"jinu." the man repeated it slowly, as though committing every syllable to memory.
"a good name." a smile curved across the man's lips. warm enough to earn anyone's trust. cold enough to make the hairs on the back of jinu's neck stand.
"mine…" he said, lifting his cup in a casual toast. "…isn't important."
before jinu could respond, the stranger's attention wandered back toward the tavern door, where the wind had stirred the hanging curtain.
"tell me," he said lightly, almost as an afterthought. "the one you walked home…" his fingers idly traced the rim of his cup. "…is she precious to you?"
the question was delivered with the curiosity of a passing traveler. but beneath the smile, something else lingered. something patient. something that had begun watching jinu long before this chance meeting.
jinu's fingers tightened ever so slightly around the warm bowl.
"…she's kind." that was all he offered.
"kind?" the stranger repeated with a soft laugh. "that's a rather modest way to describe someone who has you walking half the countryside after sunset."
jinu shrugged. "she's a friend."
"only a friend?"
"…yes."
the stranger smiled into his drink. "how fortunate."
"fortunate?"
"that a kind girl would place so much trust in you." he swirled the cup lazily in his hand. "a village outside the walls, wasn't it? not many homes scattered in that direction."
jinu looked at him. "…how did you know it was outside the walls?"
"a guess."
"you sounded awfully certain."
for the first time, the stranger's smile faltered—only for a heartbeat. "travelers notice these things."
silence settled between them.
the tavern remained as lively as ever. someone burst into laughter near the hearth. cups clinked together in celebration. a serving girl hurried past with another tray of food.
yet somehow, the noise felt very far away.
"does she live with her family?" the stranger continued. "parents? siblings?"
jinu didn't answer.
"what sort of work do they do?"
"…why?"
"simple curiosity."
"you ask a lot for someone who says he wasn't trying to eavesdrop."
the stranger chuckled. "perhaps i enjoy conversation."
"with people you've only just met?"
"sometimes they're the most interesting." his gaze settled on jinu again. calm. unwavering. "what was her name?"
jinu's expression hardened. "…i don't think that's any of your concern."
the stranger held up a placating hand. "forgive me. i meant no offense, no intrusion."
but the smile never left the stranger's face. if anything, it only grew. "i've simply found that people become much easier to understand once you know who they choose to spend their evenings with."
something twisted in jinu's stomach. the warmth he'd found upon entering the tavern had long since vanished. he reached into the small pouch at his waist, fishing out a few worn coins before setting them gently on the counter. "that should cover it."
the innkeeper glanced between the two men, sensing the shift in the air.
"leaving already?"
jinu offered him an apologetic smile. "i'd better get home. i've got work before sunrise."
"still juggling three jobs?" the innkeeper asked with a sympathetic shake of his head.
"someone has to keep rice on the table."
the older man nodded knowingly. "fair enough."
jinu rose from his stool, slinging the bipa over his shoulder in one practiced motion. "thank you for the sikhye."
"safe travels."
"already?" the stranger asked, sounding almost disappointed. "we've only just begun talking."
"another night, perhaps."
"i'd be happy to buy your next bowl."
"i appreciate the offer." jinu adjusted the strap of his bipa, "but tomorrow will come early."
"work can wait."
"mine can't."
"surely a few more moments won't hurt."
jinu met the man's eyes. whatever warmth had been there before was gone. "…good night."
without waiting for another reply, he turned and slipped through the tavern door. the cool night air struck his face. he didn't stop to look back. his pace quickened the moment he crossed the threshold, boots carrying him over the packed earth as the city gates loomed ahead. once he was beneath the lanterns lining the streets, his brisk walk became a jog.
then a run.
the bipa bounced lightly against his back as he wove through the thinning crowd, his breaths growing shorter with every turn.
why did that feel so… wrong?
he couldn't explain it.
the man had smiled, he'd spoken politely, and yet, jinu couldn't shake the feeling that he'd been sitting beside something that had been studying him—not listening, not conversing. studying.
behind him, the tavern's lanterns burned quietly in the night. and from the doorway, the stranger watched until jinu disappeared into the sleeping city. only then did the smile on his face finally change.
by the time jinu reached home, the city had settled into its nightly hush.
lanterns glowed behind paper windows, their warm light spilling onto the narrow streets before fading into shadow. somewhere in the distance, the steady beat of a watchman's clapper echoed through the neighborhood, marking the late hour.
he slowed his pace as he approached the familiar wooden gate.
the small courtyard was quiet.
only a single lantern remained lit beneath the eaves, left burning for whoever returned home last.
jinu slipped off his shoes and quietly slid the door open. "mother?"
"you're finally home." her voice drifted from the kitchen before she appeared, wiping her hands on the edge of her apron. though there was a hint of worry in her eyes, it softened the moment she saw him standing there.
"i was beginning to think you'd decided to sleep under the stars."
"sorry." he scratched the back of his neck with a sheepish smile. "i lost track of time."
her gaze dropped to the basket tucked beneath his arm. "and what's this?"
"a gift."
he stepped forward and offered it to her. "from… a friend."
she peeked inside. crisp cabbages, leafy greens, spring onions, and freshly picked radishes filled the basket, their earthy scent rising into the air.
"goodness…" she looked back at him. "whoever gave these has a generous heart."
"she said it was her way of thanking you."
"thanking me?"
"for all the tteok you've been giving her."
his mother let out a quiet laugh, shaking her head, "that child."
she cradled the basket in her arms as though it were something precious, "i only ever gave her what we had to spare."
"she wanted to return the kindness."
"then i'll have to make another batch."
jinu sighed through an amused smile. "i had a feeling you'd say that."
"it's only fair." she looked at him for a long moment, a knowing smile slowly finding its way onto her face. "…you seem happy tonight."
jinu blinked, "do i?"
"you've been smiling ever since you walked through the door."
almost instinctively, his hand drifted to his cheek. he hadn't even realized. "…have i?"
"mhmm." she chuckled to herself before carrying the vegetables into the kitchen.
"go get some rest. tomorrow will come early."
"it always does."
he lingered a moment longer, watching her sort through the vegetables with quiet delight before retreating to his small room.
he carefully set his bipa against the wall, its polished wood catching the faint glow of the lantern outside. after changing into lighter clothes, he eased himself onto his bedding.
as sleep finally drew its curtain over the day, jinu carried with him the warmth of a shared walk, the memory of a gentle smile, and the quiet wish that the road had been just a little longer. but not every memory faded with the night. somewhere beyond the city's lanterns, beneath a sky untouched by their glow, unseen eyes remained fixed upon him, waiting with a patience only darkness could possess.
so i am back! heart, reblog, or interact whatever. i highly appreciate feedback! also, i have a taglist now! just tell me if you want to be in it.
Completely unoriginal concept, i know, but i would really like to see your rendition of Kpop Demon Hunters Jinu x reader who is his reincarnated lover from when he was still human. Maybe she's Huntr/x's assistant/bestie and she has no idea why one of the Saja boys is so weirdly obsessed with her, or why her bosses/friends keep aggressively trying to steer her away from him. But she can't deny she feels a pull towards him, whether its attraction or something else entirely.
The Saja Boys only appeared about three months ago.
In your eyes, they came out of thin air and stormed onto the scene- completely disrupting the world of undying and uninterrupted praise and love that your best friends have created for themselves. And now, not only are they already Huntrix’s biggest competition in terms of streaming numbers and sales, but they’ve also been making a lot of public appearances. And many of them just so happen to conveniently take place in the same city the girls and you are currently in, each and every time.
You thought it was funny at first- especially seeing how mad the other girls would get at the mere mention of the Saja Boys having some sort of show taping on the opposite side of town from their live show. And was it really that bad? The Saja Boys were just hanging onto the coattails of Huntrix’s success. You can’t really blame them for looking up to your best friends and acknowledging their success, power, and influence. You do the exact same after all.
Except…that was just what you thought after the first few times. Truthfully, you thought it was a little less funny after the sixth time it had happened in a row. Same city, same day. Appearances molded around each other’s schedules like clockwork. But even so, you were still willing to believe it was underhanded and shallow at first. The girls told you that they were demons after all. So it must be in their nature to play a little dirty like this…even if you can’t fully understand the reason behind their games.
But then one day, Bobby came to you about facilitating a collaboration between Huntrix and the Saja Boys. Apparently their leader had been coming around the girls’ sets, asking members of the Huntrix team for you by name, and then becoming increasingly agitated when no one would bring you to him. And suddenly you didn’t know what to think. Hell, even now you don’t know what to think.
“You’re…you’re Jinu! A-and you’re not supposed to…not supposed to…”
But you can only imagine the fit the girls will throw when they find you here.
In fact, you don’t even have to close your eyes to picture Rumi stomping up to you and snatching you away by the wrist as Mira shoves herself in the man’s face with the ever-loyal Zoey barking at him from behind her. You can picture it. You can hear it- the insults and thinly veiled threats they trade as they pull you away. And if you sit still enough and learn to give in to the hate the girls say you should have for people- for things like him, you’re pretty sure you can feel it too.
The negativity. The pressure. The anger. The fear. The disgust. The things that all Hunters and everyone they hold dear should feel towards demons. If you tried hard enough, you could feel it. You could. You could feel it. If you let yourself feel it, you could. You could. You really could- you promise you could. You promised the girls that you could. And you know you can. You could get there. You can. It’s just that…that…
“Hi there! It’s good to see you again! Have you…have you watched our latest performance?”
He makes it impossible for your heart to hate him.
“Um…” You mumble, trying to dodge Jinu’s gaze as he starts to linger nearer, the gentleness of his voice being all too uncomfortable and unfamiliar to hear from someone you know is a demon. Presently, he’s got you cornered just backstage of the girl’s latest appearance- a nightly talk show that’s good for introducing older generations to their music. The tech hallway he found you in is already scary enough on its own with its dim lighting, unsuspecting length, sheer emptiness, and the only signs of life being the distant sounds of the show being taped in front of its live audience far, far away from here. But his eyes are soft, and his expression is tender as he looks down at you, seemingly excited to hear your response. And his arm is pressed up against the wall in the space just above your head in a way that awakens the butterflies that you know aren’t supposed to exist. “The one for yesterday? The Saja Boys were on Play Games with Us, right…?”
Your voice starts to quietly trail off even before you finish the question, simply because of just how far you see Jinu’s expression drop at the mention of yesterday. His lips fall into a slight frown, and his eyebrows pinch forward- a clear indication that it wasn’t the answer he wanted to hear. You swallow thickly at the sight as you try to ignore the way his pain makes your heart ache like the only person you’re hurting is really yourself. It’s strange and frustrating, and it makes you feel a little bit dizzy and sick because this is Jinu of the Saja Boys you’re talking about.
You’re not a Hunter yourself, but you spent enough time around Rumi and the other girls while growing up to know just how bad of an idea getting this close to a demon while alone and defenseless is. All your life you’ve been told that demons don’t deserve to live. That they don’t have feelings. That they’re dangerous creatures. That they’ll kill you and hurt you and so much more if you let your guard down around them. Because at the end of the day, they’re exactly what their name implies: they’re demons. And that’s all they’ll ever be.
So why does your heart ache for one? And why do you stay here? And why…why are you reaching for him? As if you were never supposed to be apart in the first place?
“No, we…we had another performance. It was a live show from earlier today,” He corrected gently as he leaned into the hand you just absent-mindedly outstretched towards him. You still feel dizzy, and you can’t help but wonder if your expression is as hazy as your mind feels right now as you perform an act of intimacy on a stranger- a demon- that you’ve never done before. And yet, he doesn’t seem the least bit surprised by the action. Rather, he seems excited by it as he welcomes it with a familiarity that you just can’t understand while in this state. “It’s fine though. I understand you’re busy. Did you enjoy yesterday’s show? We worked really hard on it.”
In fact, it’s only when you see his adoring smile and feel the soft, smooth, and impossibly human-feeling touch of his cheek against your palm that it starts to dawn on you about what you have done. But at this point, you find that you can’t pull away. For his lips had already turned to press against the inside of your hand- kissing your skin like it’s a lifeline. But it’s strange. Because he’s not supposed to be here. And you’re not supposed to be near him. And yet…and yet you’re nodding, because yes, you did like yesterday’s performance.
You liked it because of him.
“That’s good. I’m glad.” Jinu all but purrs in between the tiny kisses he peppers to your palm, his eyes peering down at you through the loose strands of his dark hair. It sends shivers down your spine to be looked at in this way- like you’re the canary and he’s the cat that just caught you. But you’re not pulling away. You’re not looking away. You’re not trying to get away. And you know it’s bad and wrong and dangerous for you because the girls have told you time and time again about what a demon- what a Saja Boy might do to you if they got their hands on you. But you can’t get away. You can’t. Because something deep inside of you is telling you that you’re not supposed to run. “Why don’t you tell me what you liked about the performance? You know I always like hearing what you have to say about my shows.”
Not from him, at least.
But beneath the fuzzy haze that his affections are causing you, the rational part of you still exists. It’s what causes your breath to hitch when one of the kisses to your palm has him grazing his teeth against your skin, as you’re reminded that there’s something to fear even behind those pretty lips of his. And although the hurt expression that flashes on his face momentarily causes your brain to stutter and your heart to ache for him once more, it’s not enough for that rational side of you to catch onto the last thing he said.
Nor is it enough to stop you from saying something about it while you’re both here.
“Always?” You repeat quietly, moving to pull your hand away from his cheek. For a moment, you see him tense up and move as if he were planning to follow your hand closer to you if it weren’t for the fact that you had called out that particular word. Instead, though, he relents- letting your hand fall back to your side limply as he stares at you with an intense yet unreadable expression. Is he angry that you pulled away? Upset that you didn’t follow along with his plans in the way that he wanted you to? Embarrassed about misspeaking? Or is he proud that he got you in this position in the first place? You don’t know. You’re not too sure. For all your knowledge, you’ve never been this close to one before. Especially not one like this. So you don’t know. You don’t know, you don’t know, you don’t know. But…but you’re not completely clueless. Because if there’s one thing for certain, it’s that- “Jinu…what do you mean ‘always’? This is the first time we’ve ever spoken…”
It is, right? Right?
Except you don’t know. You thought calling him out- even quietly might cause him to drop the act. Or at least slip up a little. Just enough for you to see the sharpness of his teeth or the darkness in his eyes or even the patterns that mark his skin. But it doesn’t.
Instead, his eyes get sadder. And his lips turn up to form a fake sort of smile- one that’s so quietly tragic that it shattered something inside of you. And suddenly, you regret challenging his words. You regret pulling your hand away. You regret the fear and the trepidation you have ever felt towards him despite him showing nothing more than care and adoration towards you. You regret it.
But you regret it all the more when he starts to pull further away from you, even despite the tears that have already begun to well up in your eyes.
“So it is,” He agrees to your words from earlier with a whisper- your reminder that this is only the first time. But despite this, you suddenly don’t think it’s true- you don’t want it to be true. You fear something inside of you will break even more if that’s really the case. That these butterflies that you feel will wither and die from the heartbreak. That your chest will tighten and tighten and tighten until there’s no room for anything but your anguish to exist.
But you don’t protest. And you don’t speak. And you don’t even move.
For Jinu has already disappeared into thin air and has left you alone in the long, dark hallway. Alone with your thoughts. Alone with your feelings. Alone with your life.
And all you can do is miss a man you don’t know, feel a numbness you don’t understand, and experience both a sense of longing and loss that you’ll always know so long as he’s away from you.
A feeling that only appeared about three months ago.
While (Y/n) slept peacefully in her own room, one floor below, the Huntrix boys were wide awake in their penthouse studio. The atmosphere buzzed with tension as they brainstormed ideas for a diss track aimed at their new rivals, the Saja Boys, a demon idol group who had stirred more than just trouble.
Rumi sat apart, fingers strumming out a discordant melody on the electric guitar, his mind spinning with rage, not just over the insult Jinu had hurled at him, but over the fact that he’d mocked the pajama pants (Y/n) had gifted him. A precious gift he held dear.
“You know, you'll never beat us,” Miro muttered sarcastically, fiddling with lyrics.
“Your plan will never work, we’re gonna…” Zane trailed off, lost in thought. Both of them were struggling to rhyme, mumbling incomplete lines.
“This song sucks!” the two groaned in unison, tossing their notebooks aside.
“We only have to write the best diss track ever to crush the Idol Awards… or, you know, risk demon apocalypse,” Miro said, flopping dramatically onto a giant beanbag with exaggerated despair.
“No pressure at all.” He grabbed three darts, hurling them at a target wheel plastered with Jinu’s smug face. All three hit dead center. Around the wheel were more vandalized images of the Saja Boys.
“Yeah! We gotta get up close and insult their stupid faces!” Zane cheered, crawling toward the target wall with dramatic flair.
“Their nasty, disgusting…not-beautiful… perfectly dewy, symmetrical, shimmering…” Zane trailed off, visibly affected by the lingering charm spell the Saja Boys had used. He was drooling over a photo of Mystery.
“Okay, that’s enough! I’m taking these down! Just like how we’re gonna take those boys down!” Miro snapped, yanking the pictures off the wall. He also snapped Zane out of his dazed state.
“Take down? Takedown! That’s it!” Rumi’s eyes lit up as inspiration struck. “That’s the song. Takedown.”
Zane jumped in, freestyling: “So sweet, so easy on the eyes… but hideous on the inside.” A lyric reflecting the Saja Boys’ manipulative charm spells and flawless appearance.
“Nice,” Miro nodded approvingly.
“You like it?” Zane beamed.
“Whole life spreading lies… but you can’t hide,” Miro added, getting into rhythm.
“Baby, nice try,” Rumi finished the verse.
“Whoa, this is actually sounding good!”
“I’m about to switch up these vi—” Rumi began singing, only to be cut off by a coughing fit. “Sorry, guys…”
“Take it easy,” Zane said quickly.
“Yeah, rest that voice for the Idol Awards,” Miro added gently.
With the lyrics finalized, the trio called it a night, determined to regroup tomorrow with fresh energy.
The next morning, (Y/n) awoke to a message from Bobby: the filming set was ready, and a car would arrive in 30 minutes to pick her up. She responded with a purple heart emoji to confirm.
After showering, she tied her hair into a side ponytail with a purple scrunchie and slipped into a breezy white linen dress. While waiting, an unexpected message popped up from an unknown number:
“Hey, this is Baby Saja. Contacting you about that collaboration with your new single.”
Surprised by how he got her number, another message followed:
“Also, got your number from your manager. That dude, Bobby or something.”
With that cleared up, (Y/n) replied and sent him the filming location. Just then, Bobby texted that the car had arrived. She informed the Huntrix group chat before heading out.
Upon arriving at the set, she was greeted by Bobby and the production staff.
“Good morning, (Y/n)! Ready for a day full of filming?” he asked enthusiastically.
“Hi, Bobby! Yes, I am,” she replied warmly, greeting the rest of the crew as she was led to her dressing room.
“Baby is already here. He brought Mystery along for moral support. I’ve got him in makeup and wardrobe,” Bobby explained. “Now it’s your turn.”
“Thanks, Bobby! I’ll see you after,” she said as she entered her dressing room. A staff member handed her a perfectly made iced vanilla coffee, and she thanked them before settling into her chair.
Her hair was styled in soft waves, cascading to her hips, with a partial bun and a thin strand framing her face. Her makeup, lavender and rose gold hues blended seamlessly was radiant, with a soft gradient from glossy pink to peach on her lips. She looked every bit the celestial solo idol: luminous, elegant, and unforgettable.
Her outfit was equally breathtaking: a strapless white dress with a slit on the left revealing a violet underlayer, violet ruffles on the bodice, and flowing blue and white fabric giving it a layered, ethereal silhouette. She wore long gloves trimmed in purple, a charm bracelet with symbols for Rumi (a mic), Miro (a pink heart), Zane (a turtle), and herself (angel wings). A violet choker adorned with a gold star graced her neck, paired with mismatched earrings, one a six-pointed star, the other a dangling pearl.
As the staff left her alone, (Y/n) looked in the mirror. With a soft flash of light, her angelic wings emerged, props for others but very real to her. The primary wings stretched behind her ears, while her secondary wings, normally concealed, wrapped around her waist like part of the costume.
A knock signaled that filming would begin soon. With one last look in the mirror, she opened the door and was escorted to the grand theatre stage.
There stood Baby and Mystery, dressed in sleek suits. Baby’s hair was slicked back, Mystery’s fringe artfully draped across his face. Their breath caught at the sight of her. She looked like an angel descending from the heavens.
“Hi! It’s so nice to have you both here,” she greeted, bowing.
She leaned in and whispered, “Please... don’t take anyone’s soul here. I don’t want to hurt anyone.
“We won’t. We’re just here to hang out with you,” Baby replied, avoiding eye contact to hide his blush. Mystery silently nodded.
“Wanted to see you again,” Mystery added softly, his voice unexpectedly deep and magnetic.
“(Y/n)! Time to get into position,” Bobby called out.
“I’ll see you after. The director will explain your roles,” she said, then turned to Mystery. “You should talk more. You really have a nice voice.”
That single compliment made his heart beat, for the first time in centuries.
Standing center stage of the grand theater, (Y/n)’s custom microphone stand a tall, elegant staff with a crystalline lotus headpiece and wing-like accents glimmered under the spotlight.
Lights.
Camera.
Action.
As the melody of the song fills the whole theater every staff member present couldn't help but watch (Y/n) who slowly walks towards the microphone with her eyes closed, a gentle spotlight that shines on her. As she stops in front of her mic, it is like a siren call that captivates everyone around her, including the two demon boys nearby. Finally, (Y/n) slowly opened her eyes and sang from her heart, the world seemed to blur around her.
~ “Birds are born with no shackles. Then, what fetters my fate?”
“Blown away, the white petals. Leave me trapped in the cage.”~
Memories long buried returned, screams, chants, cries of children, and the dark past she'd tried to forget.
~ “The endless isolation. Can’t wear down my illusion. Someday, I’ll make a dream unchained.”
“Let my heart bravely spread the wings. Soaring past the night. To trace the bright moonlight.”~
As the lights dimmed, she curled in on herself, encaged in symbolic darkness.
A blurred memory surfaced of a man with fair skin and silver shoulder length hair. Whose face blurred through time, only the warmth and loving embrace only remains.
~”Let the clouds heal me of the stings. Gently wipe the sorrow off my life. I dream.”
”What is meant by miracle. A word outside my days.”~
A glowing bubble holding a white feather floated into her hands. She clutched it to her chest.
Her wings burst open in full display, and the stage exploded in radiant light. Musical notes swirled around her, a magical dance of past kindnesses visible only to her.
Baby approached, offering his hand. She took it. They waltzed, and for the first time, Baby felt true peace.
~”Once again, repeat warbles. But how could I escape?”
”No further hesitation. On those unanswered questions. So now, I'll make a dream unchained.”~
As they twirled, (Y/n) looked into Baby’s eyes, saw his suffering and used her magic to soothe his pain. The voices in his head went silent.
He was free, even if just for a moment as he looked at (Y/n) and saw her kind smile directed at him.
Everything was just about him and (Y/n) with her singing.
Mystery stepped in for the second part of the dance, holding her gently.
~”Let my heart bravely spread the wings. Soaring past the night. To trace the bright moonlight.”
”Let the clouds heal me of the stings. Gently wipe the sorrow off my life. I dream.”~
Mystery couldn't help himself but smell (Y/n) scent as it was intoxicating to have her in his arms.
Her aura, it melted the bitterness of his past.
She was the light.
He felt peace despite all the harsh memories of his past, (Y/n) was the cure,
She was his cure.
~”Let my heart bravely spread the wings. Soaring past the night. To trace the bright moonlight.”
”Let the clouds heal me of the stings. Gently wipe the sorrow off my life.”~
As they both continue to dance around the stage, Bobby couldn't help himself as he lip syncs along to (Y/n) singing. He even dragged a helpless staff to his dancings until he let go and just danced the waltz alone.
As the song comes to the end. (Y/n) and Mystery finished their dance, she took his hand in her left hand and took Baby's in her right hand.
~”I dream.”~
In the middle of the stage, various feathers from above slowly showered them as (Y/n) hugged both males together. Slowly lights are deemed until a lone spotlight shines on the three as the song comes to an end.
~”I dream.”~
Applause erupted. Lights came up. The performance was over.
“WHOA! That was amazing (Y/n). I can see it now, when we post this tomorrow morning. It's going to be a hit.” Bobby excitedly said as he met (Y/n) and the two Saja Boys on stage, handing them water and escorting them off stage to their dressing room. Along the way, they were all thanking each of the staff for their hard work.
“I'm going to go get the cars to escort both you, (Y/n) and the Saja boys home. Wait for me, until I get back.” Bobby said before walking away, leaving the three of them alone in the hallway.
“Thank you for featuring in my music video, despite knowing that you guys have something else better to do.” (Y/n) nervously laugh knowing that the better thing to do was taking more souls for Gwi-Ma.
“It was no problem, and it was also a good excuse to get close to you.” Baby said while ruffling his hair.
“We wanted to talk to you.” Mystery said looking at (Y/n).
“Back there, during the dance. You somehow made the voices stop.” Baby couldn't help himself but inquired why would (Y/n) do that despite being demons trying to destroy the Honmoon.
“Why? Help us?” Mystery added not wanting the conversation to end.
“Because I see your suffering and I believe that one small act of kindness can change anything. So, I wanted to seize the pain and give you peace.” (Y/n) Smiled warmly to both of them. Which made them blush and their hearts beat.
Before the two could talk, Bobby arrived and said that the cars were ready outside. As (Y/n) said her goodbyes to the two boys, she was stopped by a hand grasping her wrist. It was Mystery looking at her, and Baby was the one to say what both of them knew to say.
“Your secret. We won't tell anyone. We promise.” This made her smile before walking away from the two.
“I think I'm falling for her.” Mystery said to Baby, who was silent as they both watched (Y/n) slowly disappear from their sight.
His silence was everything because they both knew they weren't the only ones falling for the Angel.
Back at the tower, (Y/n) quietly returned to her room, careful not to disturb the Huntrix boys. She changed, stepped out onto her balcony, and gazed at the city lights.
She thought of him, the man from her memories. He was gone, lost forever. But the memory had returned. She smiled.
(Y/n) went back inside and crawled into her bed getting her much needed rest knowing the coming days would be full of award shows and rehearsals with Huntrix.
Just as Bobby predicted, her song “If I Could Stop One Heart from Breaking” had become a massive hit, touching hearts around the world. Fans buzzed with excitement online, especially over Baby and Mystery’s surprise appearances, sparking a new wave of shipping rumors between (Y/n) and the Saja Boys.
The stage was set.
The battle between light, music, and demons was just beginning.
In the street, Jinu walked alone, his thoughts consumed by the marks he saw, Rumi's arm, and (Y/n)'s stomach.
"A Hunter and an Angel... both with demonic patterns."
Haunting whispers suddenly stirred around him. His eyes widened in fear as his demonic patterns suddenly ignited, an invisible force dragging him forcefully down into the Demon World.
He slammed onto the cracked ground of the realm below. Groaning, he stood again, only to be met by a sea of demons waving glowing lightsticks and chanting "Saja Boys!" as his bandmates returned to their demon forms and basked in the adoration.
"I love you guys!" A sobbing water demon cried, holding up two lightsticks.
But amidst the excitement, Jinu noticed something strange. The four other demon boy bands nearby... they looked less miserable, less hollow and it seems it was only seen by him, alone.
"They're... just like us."
"Oh, souls incoming." One of the demons pointed upwards.
Everyone turned upward as streaks of white light shot toward the mouth of the Demon King, Gwi-Ma, who devoured each soul eagerly.
"My little Soda Pop," Gwi-Ma crooned, his mouth curling in a grin. "Surprisingly catchy. And your plan... it's working."
"I know," Jinu replied smugly. "And that soul? Just the appetizer. Let me return to the human world. You'll be feasting in no time." But Gwi-Ma's tone darkened.
"One of the Hunters and the Angel bear my mark. Yet I have no control over them." He read Jinu's mind effortlessly.
"That's good," Jinu replied, thinking fast. "That means they carry shame. I'll find it... and we'll use it to destroy them. All of the Hunters. For good."
"I've taught you well, Jinu. Oh, and the Angel. I want her brought before me. Alive." Jinu blinked.
"May I ask why?" Gwi-Ma's voice cut through like a blade.
"You will obey without question." Bowing, Jinu floated down to join his fellow bandmates, the words still echoing in his head.
'You will be mine again, my little darkness', Gwi-Ma thought aloud, devouring another soul with relish.
Meanwhile, the Saja Boys were summoned back before they could even debrief with Jinu about what they had seen on (Y/n). Reappearing in a sea of cheering demons, they instinctively slipped back into their idol personas, smiling and waving like nothing was wrong, even as their hearts pounded.
Their forced transformation back into their demonic forms burned. Jinu appeared last, standing atop the mountain throne near Gwi-Ma's fire.
"One of the Hunters and the Angel bear my mark," Gwi-Ma repeated. "But I have no control over them." The boys exchanged uneasy glances.
"That means shame," Jinu spoke aloud. "We'll find it. Use it."
"I've taught you well," Gwi-Ma echoed again.
Before they were dismissed back to the human world, the four boys noticed Gwi-Ma whispering something to Jinu, something they weren't allowed to hear. Suspicious but unable to ask, they reappeared back at their apartment next to Huntrix Tower.
"Jinu. We need to talk. Now." Romance said in a serious tone.
They spread out in their shared living room. Abby lay dramatically on the couch while Romance claimed a corner. Baby scrolled through his new newly accquired phone from the floor, and Mystery sat perched on the couch arm, chewing his lip. Jinu stood before them, arms crossed.
"We need to find out what their shame is. That Hunter, and the Angel. To do that, we need to get close to them, gain their trust."
"You've already interacted with the Hunter," Romance noted. "He might be more open with you."
"But the Angel hasn't really interacted with any of us," Baby added, trying to sound neutral. No one wanted to admit that they all wanted to see you again, thier pride getting the best of them.
"I carried her," Romance smirked smugly, flicking his hair.
"She flirted with me," Abby said quickly, nudging Romance. "And was definitely eyeing me." Fully knowing that wasn't the case.
"I won the spicy challenge," Baby added. "And I will be doing a collab with her in her new single."
Mystery wanted to chime in too, but knowing himself being around her, it probably won't go over so well. Jinu sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose in annoyance of the others argument.
"Fine. You can all try. Just don't overwhelm her. It'll look suspicious how we're all targeting her."
But before Jinu could walk away, Romance said something that caught everyone's attendtion.
"What did Gwi-Ma say to you that it wasn't important for everyone back in the demon realm to hear."
"He wanted her to be brought to him... Alive" Jinu said still facing his back towards the four.
"Her, as in..."
"The Angel." Silence follows. As each boy sat in thought of why Gwi-Ma would want her.
Then, without telling the others, Jinu walked towrads a near by table scribbled a private message on a cute stationary for Derpy and Sussie to deliver to both the Hunter and (Y/n), slipping into smoke as he left before informing the boys to behave.
"I'm heading out."
Back at Huntrix Tower, (Y/n) returned with the boys. After dropping her off, the Hunters retreated to change. But as they came out in their loungewear, they found (Y/n) in ruffled white pajamas, setting out first aid.
"(Y/n)!"
"Are you okay!?"
"They touched you, didn't they!?"
"I'm fine," she laughed, gently deflecting their panic. "Now let me patch you guys up."
Thankfully, they bought your explanation that you lost the other Saja boys due to Gwi Ma summoning them back rather than telling the truth. They relaxed, but their protective instincts lingered. All of them noticing the distant red and pink cracks slowly spreading across the Honmoon visible outside the window.
"How do we go from gold to this?" The boys with (Y/n) stood at the window, looking at the red and pink corrupting the Honmoon as (Y/n) put the first aid supplies away and moved to the kitchen. (Y/n) glanced at them with furrowed brows as you got out the ingredients for beef kimbap.
"Look at all the weak spots. We've never seen the Honmoon like this before." Zane is worried about the effects of the Honmoon's condition.
"Gwi-Ma must know we're so close to sealing it for good."
"So he sends a demon boy band?"
"Well, it's working."
"Don't worry. I'm sure 'Soda Pop' is just a fad. These demon boys will be old news by next week. You'll see" Zane trying to look at the brighter side of things. Then the elevator came up with Bobby,
"Boys? (Y/n)?" Bobby burst in, panicked. The boys whipped out their compacts to aggressively cover the wounds on their faces and turned to greet him, "Hey Bobby!"
(Y/n) hid the first aid supplies in one of the cupboards as you laughed since she couldn't help but find it amusing how well trained they were by now in covering up scrapes and bruises from their hunting.
"It's a lot more serious than I thought. The Saja boys have gone completely viral after that variety show." Bobby said worriedly while continuously swiping on his phone to see various edits of the Saja Boys. "They even have their own fandom."
"Join the Pride"
(Y/n) could hear Bobby swiping through social media, and couldn't help the way your shoulders bounced as the chorus of Soda Pop played on a loop. While both Zane and Bobby also couldn't help it as well.
"Zane!"
"Bobby! Control those shoulders!"
(Y/n) froze awkwardly, at least they hadn't caught you bopping to the song. (Y/n) then focused on making the kimbap a little more aggressively, not only for herself but for the boys, and some for Bobby to take home.
"Wow, it is catchy."
"Yeah, you're right, Zane. They're amazing, but they suck. I'm sorry. I've been glued to his tiny screen for hours. I just need to look away and... Woo! Relax, Bobby. It's just social media numbers. Not the end of the world." Bobby talks to himself to relax by seeing the perfect view from the tower but ironically for the boys it may be the end of the world as the red and pink cracks reflect back to them by the window.
"This is the battle for hearts and minds. A battle for the fans. And what's the biggest battlefield of them all?" Rumi said in his determined leader voice.
"The Idol Awards." "State fair?" They agreed. A diss track would be their counterattack.
"That's right. We have to crush that stage. Be better than we've ever been with the show to end the Saja Boys for good and then (Y/n) can give the final blow to end all of it."
(Y/n) not liking how Rumi was wording everything but when Rumi started plotting something there's nothing that can stop him from following it to the end. So, an aggressive diss track to perform at the International Idol Awards was the answer.
"Zoey, we're gonna need a new song!"
"I got twenty-three notebooks full of demon insults ready to go."
"Yeah! Let's make it thirty notebooks!" Bobby the ever supportive manager to the boys.
"Mira, the choreography?"
"Yup. Making them hotter."
"Backup dancers, ready to go."
"(Y/n), be ready with your new single as you will perform it live in the Idol Awards as the final blow." (Y/n) looked up from the kitchen counter and gave a strained smile at the sudden call of your name, Which none of the boys noticed due to being too determined with what Rumi got planned.
"Okay. I just need to schedule the film for the music video and release it before the Idol Awards."
"Already emailing the staff and scheduling the venue. Anything for (Y/n)'s new song!"
"We'll write a brand new song. A diss track to expose those Saja Boys."
"And send those disgusting demons back to the depths where they belong!" (Y/n) bit back a grimace as the boys started raging enthusiastically, not used to seeing them revved up.
"Yeah!"
"Yeah!"
"YeaHHH!"
"YeahHHH!"
"..."
"YEAHHH!!"
"We're gonna kick their butts!" Then the boys ran off to their rooms to get started or rest or something... (Y/n) sighed, carrying both the plate and a pack of finished kimbap rolls over to stand next to Bobby to stare flatly after them.
"That's my boy! Not sure about this whole demon thing. They seem nice, but loving the energy!" Well, more for her. (Y/n) held out the packed food to Bobby, "Here, Bobby, something for you to eat at home."
"Oh, thanks (Y/n)! I'll contact you about the filming schedule." Bobby said before leaving the tower and going home.
Later,
Rumi, inside of his bedroom after that eventful hyping to make a new song had forgotten that (Y/n) was still out there making them food but was too determined in his plan in destroying the demons. Saw the box full of tonics and grabbed one.
"Okay, tonics. Let's do this. What?" But before Rumi could consume the tonics, he could see the upper right corner was loose and pulled it off to see grape juice.
"Zane." Groans in annoyance for getting scammed. But then saw the handkerchief that Jinu tied in his arms a while ago and thought about (Y/n) hugging him to cover the patterns, her warmth. His thoughts spiraled.
"A Hunter who's part demon?"
Suddenly a bird tweeted from his balcony, which caught his attention, and he went outside to investigate it. "Is that a bird wearing a tiny hat?"
"What?" Three eyes blinked open. It shrieked. The bird then grumbles and walks forward before stopping at a reasonable distance in front of the mini garden Rumi had near his room. In the dark, a pair of large eyes opened that made Rumi gasp in surprise and summon his sword for protection.
Low growls could be heard until the unknown creature walked forward into the light. It was a blue demonic tiger walking towards Rumi until it bumped into a potted plant, making it fall over. Which caught the tiger's attention, and he tried to stand the pot once again in his right position, only to fall again. The tiger tried again to make it stand, the pot almost standing upright only to fall once again. Rumi had lowered his guard for a bit to look at the bird beside him, who squawks annoyedly like this was another typical thing that the tiger does.
Rumi, chuckled having had enough watching the silly tiger doing what he does, went near the tiger and helped set the plant right. The tiger, seeing the plant back at its position , then looked at Rumi and walked towards him only to bump into the plant once again. Rumi chuckled as the bird sighed in exhaustion.
"No. No, really. It's okay. Just leave it." Rumi convinced the tiger to stop its fixation on the plant. The tiger's left eye looked at Rumi while its right eye was still looking at the plant before it looked at Rumi.
"What are you?" Rumi asked the tiger and answered with his tongue out with a letter in the middle which was spit out by the tiger.
"Hello, friend." Rumi, a bit disgusted by the spit, took the letter and opened it. "Wanna meet?" It said with Jinu's name stamp in red at the bottom right corner.
"Jinu? Ji- Jinu? Oh! Meet you? I'm not gonna meet you. Who do you think you -" Rumi scoffs in disbelief and before he could finish his sentence. The bird flew which surprised him and sat on top of the tiger. As the floor below the tiger glowed and both animals disappeared while the tiger kept looking at the direction of the fallen plant.
Rumi looked around for both animals only to see them below the tower in the middle of the road, looking back at him before walking towards a direction indicating for Rumi to follow them.
"Okay, Jinu. Let's meet." Rumi smirked as he crushed the letter in his hand before following the two demonic animals to a quiet traditional neighborhood. The tiger stopped at an alleyway to look back to Rumi if he followed them before teleporting away using a portal open on a statue.
Rumi looked around for any clues until he saw a figure on top of the roof of a building in front of him. Rumi used his training to manoeuvre around until he got on top of the roof behind Jinu, summoning his sword and dash towards Jinu to cut off his head. Only to see that it was a mannequin dressed like Jinu.
"What?"
"Wow. I wasn't expecting a hug, but - -" Jinu appearing behind the fallen mannequin yells in surprise as Rumi charged at him with his sword. "Jezz, okay, okay."
"Calm down. I thought the mannequin was gonna be a fun icebreaker. But I see I was wrong." Jinu said was dodging Rumi's attacks.
"Whoa! Hey! I just wanna talk."
"Talk?" Rumi said in confusion at the absurdity of what Jinu is proposing.
"About your patterns? But first, I wanna talk about these pants." Jinu raised both of his hands for defense before pointing down at Rumi's pyjama pants.
"Hm?" Rumi then also looked down at the pants he was wearing.
"Teddy bears and choo- choo trains? Really?" Rumi then looked back up at Jinu who was making gestures like what one does to make the train horns.
"Choo-choo."
"(Y/n), gave these to me for my birthday. And you were supposed to be dead by now!"
"Whoa. Hey! I could've told your friends what you are. But I didn't, did I? Because they don't know." Rumi gasped at how easy it was for the demon in front of him to know about his secret.
"Ah, I did guess right. A demon boy. Also a Hunter. Hiding, walking around free in the human world." As the two male walked on the roof of a squared building in circles.
"Just Hunter, not demon."
"Then how'd you get the patterns?"
"That's none of your business."
"Huh? I know what it feels like to have them."
"Feel? You're a demon. Demons don't feel anything."
"Is that what you think? That's all demons do. Feel. Feel our shame, our misery. It's how Gwi-Ma controls us. Do you not hear him in your era?"
"What are you talking about?"
"Huh. You're lucky. I'll never forget the first time I heard him. That was 400 years ago." Jinu said while looking at both of his hands free from any patterns. Before remembering his past self.
"My family was extremely poor and miserable. I had a single possession to my name. An old bipa. So I busked the streets, but it didn't get me anywhere. I was desperate. We were starving." Jinu's memories of both his mother and little sister in dirty outfits, coughing, and starving in an old abandoned house. Jinu also did not look good but pushed through it to help his family as the eldest male, he had the duty to care for them, to provide for them.
"Then, I heard him."
"You can't do anything for your family. You're not good enough for them. But I can help you be good enough." Jinu, who looked into a puddle and was then surrounded by fiery red flames was coerced by the demon king.
"Overnight, my fate was changed. I was praised for my voice. Even by the king himself. My family and I lived on the palace grounds. Our bullies were finally full, our clothes clean. We were happy." Jinu was welcomed into the place where fortune and fame was given to him. His mother and sister were dressed in clean clothing and eating happily.
"But the patterns, they kept spreading until they consumed me. And I was condemned to the demon world. Prisoner of Gwi-Ma for all eternity. My family lost everything and without me, they were even worse off than before." Jinu with his patterns visible for everyone to see was sentenced and cast out of the palace and his family thrown out while Jinu was welcomed into the demon world by the other demons and Gwi-Ma under a life full of misery.
"Every day since, I've been haunted by the memory of failing them." Jinu looked at his hands once free now full of glowing patterns.
"You left them, left them behind. Failed them." Gwi-Ma whispered into his ear as Jinu is the only one to hear it.
"These are a constant reminder of my shame. A shame I can never escape." Jinu said before walking towards Rumi and looking him in the eyes before touching his collar as Rumi's own patterns lit up.
"Yours are a reminder too. Of a shame of your own."
"You don't know me."
"You know you can tell me. I'll understand. I'm the only one who can." Jinu tried to convince Rumi to trust him so that he could break him in the future but failed as Rumi raised his sword at Jinu's throat as he backed away.
"I'm nothing like you."
"Denial. I get it. I was once there too. I'll be here when you're done pretending. Until next time."
"There won't be a next time." As Rumi tried to strike down Jinu. Only for Jinu to disappear in smoke. Rumi groans in frustration for not killing him when he had the opportunity. As Rumi began his walk back toward the tower, what he didn't know was that Jinu had teleported outside of (Y/n) balcony to also talk with her.
Meanwhile, (Y/n) wrapped up the rest of the rolls except for one, taking it with you. She paused at Rumi's door, raising her hand to knock but hesitated. (Y/n) wanted to tell Rumi about her own pattern. Then there's also the Saja boys knowing as well, it was a threat to her cause it would mean He knows about her. (Y/n) needs to have a talk with them.
So (Y/n) lowered her hand and went to her floor then to her room. (Y/n) shut the door behind her, almost screaming in surprise when a large demonic blue tiger with giant eyes staring at her and a demonic three eyed bird with a hat sitting on top of the tiger.
As the tiger slowly walked towards (Y/n), it bumped into her trash can making it fall over. This caused the tiger to pause and slowly looked at the fallen trash can and tried to make it stand back up again only to fail and tried again only to fall again.
(Y/n), no longer scared of the animals in front of her due to the cute silliness of the blue tiger and the dramatic sigh of the bird. Quietly laughed as she went closer to help the tiger with her trash can.
"It's okay, it's okay. You don't have to do that. I'll do it for you." (Y/n) Said fixing the trash can back to its proper place before petting the tiger, who purred in satisfaction of the affection he was getting.
"Aren't you a handsome bird." (Y/n) Smiled at the bird who looked at her curiously as she pet's him as well and the bird liked it by nuzzling into her hands while the tiger nuzzled his head to her which pushed her onto the ground and the tiger laid on her. This caused (Y/n) to laugh so sweetly that the mysterious male in her room chuckled.
This caught (Y/n) as she quickly stood up and summoned a ball of light ready to throw it to the mysterious male.
"Whoa! Whoa! I came in peace." Jinu walked out from the shadows of the corner of her room into the light. Holding up his hands to show surrender.
"Sorry. Sorry, I just wanted to chat with you."
(Y/n) narrowed her eyes at him if the others knew about your pattern and told him then it would be correct to assume that Jinu also knows. "About what?" You asked, on guard.
"Your pattern." There it is. "You're part demon, despite being an Angel."
"So what?" You said defensively, (Y/n)'s right hand touched her stomach even though she knew her skin was covered.
"I was curious," He admitted openly, brushing some hair out of his face as he leaned back against the wall of her room. "You don't hear him, do you?"
"No. I don't. So why do you care?" What Jinu didn't notice was how (Y/n) already knew who he was talking about.
He looked at you obviously, "Gwi Ma. You didn't make a deal with him? All demons hear his voice, constantly reminding them of their shame."
(Y/n) loosened from her defensive pose and lowered her left hand causing the ball of light to disappear, surprised by the vulnerable look on his face. He didn't seem to want to hurt (Y/n), so she relaxed and sat on her vanity chair, keeping her distance for now from Jinu.
"Shame?" (Y/n) asked curiously with her eyes narrowed.
Jinu looked at you, analyzing you, "It's all demons do, feel their shame and all the emotions that come with it. These patterns," He held up his arm, his patterns glowing as he did. "They show that each demon carries a deep shame with them."
Then he was in front of you, taking your hand in his as you gasped softly. (Y/n)'s own pattern started glowing through her clothes, "You do too, sweetheart."
(Y/n) grip tightened on his hand. (Y/n) looked down to the side as your heart squeezed painfully. Thinking about her past, on what she did and what she failed to do.
"Jinu. Would you promise me, you and the rest of the Saja boys won't tell the others, right? I'm not ready yet, but, I want to be the one to tell Rumi and the others." (Y/n) hesitantly asked through stumbling her words.
(Y/n) couldn't help but think of all the moments she wanted to share the secret with her boys, Rumi, Miro, and Zane. (Y/n) wanted to go to the beach with them. (Y/n) wants to be able to wear her skin comfortably instead of being reminded of her past sins carved into he soul. But (Y/n) was afraid that the boys wouldn't accept her and that they might even try to kill her. She was afriad of not being accepted for who she is.
Jinu scanned your face, his look softening as he brushed a bit of hair out of your face, tucking it behind your ear. "I don't know about the others, but I won't tell. I mean to get Derpy and Sussie to like you with seconds which is unlike them is amazing. You're amazing. "
(Y/n) couldn't help but relax at the reassurance, her face warmer at his touch. Maybe the Saja boys really weren't evil, they were so human with how they interacted with each... With her. (Y/n) then looked away, "You should go before Rumi and the others come looking for me."
Jinu couldn't help but chuckle softly at your shy demeanor. How cute... It's like the first time (Y/n) met all over again, how cute and bashful she was when the five of them flirted with her during their performance. And how jealous the Hunters were with their actions. "Of course."
As Derpy and Sussie asked for one last pet's from (Y/n), Jinu couldn't help but feel warm inside like something you would feel for a significant other, it felt domestic. But Jinu snap out of it knowing that (Y/n) was just a means to an end for his goal.
"Good night, (Y/n). Sweet Dreams." Jinu said to (Y/n) as his companions got to his side but before Jinu could disappear (Y/n) wanted to say something she couldn't before.
"Jinu, thank you for saving me back at the station. I really appreciate it." (Y/n) Said smiling cutely at him. Jinu smirked handsomely at her and nodded his head at her.
"No, problem. I saw a pretty lady in distress. It was gentlemanly to do." Jinu hopped up to the railing of your balcony, stopping to look over his shoulder at you, "Oh. You should know that the others wants to see you again. So, be ready to be sick of us always wanting to be around you."
He smiled slyly before jumping and disappearing in a poof of demonic smoke. As the two animals also disappear into their blue portal. "Wait, what!?"
(Y/n) fixing herself before she got a text from Miro saying that they were in their home studio thinking of lyrics for their new song. But she texted back saying that she was tired and needed sleep for a full day of shooting tomorrow.
Later, (Y/n) curled up in bed, the kimbap untouched as she couldn't find the appetite for it anymore with everything that's going on. She thought of everything, the patterns, the secrets, the boys...
AN: I hope you guys enjoy this. This is an idea that I have had for a very long while, and I absolutely adore it! Also fair warning I apologize that the reader is described as a female.
Premise: Many years ago Jinu had a lover. One from a life that has long since passed. You had passed away, but your soul lived on in every life time. Now he has found you again, but he is far from the man that you once knew.
A long time ago the world itself was far different than the one that we know now. A time when not much was known about demons. In that world there was a human.
His name was Jinu.
He was a sweet boy, but he was cursed with that harsh realities of life. He and his family were poor. The boy longed to provide for his family. All in the hopes that their bellies may be fed and their bodies be warm. The boy had tried everything that he knew. The poor thing was as desperate as they came.
One day a voice spoke within the confines of his mind. However, this voice was not his own. This voice spoke to him and offered him everything that he had been longing for and more. Everything he could ever want could be his. All for a price.
Jinu was desperate, so desperate in fact that he had not thought twice before accepting the voice's offer.
What the voice had given him was something that he had not expected.
It gave him a voice unlike any other. This voice paired with the ability he already possessed to play the Bipa, allowed him to earn money easily. Easier than he could've ever dreamed. He was finally able to give his family the life that they deserved.
However, as it always was in human nature people flocked to the talent that the boy possessed. The music he was able to produced was unlike any that they had heard. It was only natural that these people offered him a place among the finest to share the talents that he had. He was seen as one of the finer members of their society. Jinu above things was only human, so he agreed without a second thought. He did not see his family when he did so. No, he saw the status and the greed. Without a second thought in his mind the young boy accepted.
So that is where he went.
For a long time he would perform for those of higher status, and as a result he was able to live a life of luxury that he had only dreamed of.
Many women had said compliments of all kind to him over the time that he had lived his life. Even more so now that he had joined the higher class. All of them thankless compliments, or even unsavory comments.
But then along came you.
You were far different. A female of higher status, yes. But you were kind and loving in ways that he was unused to. You would give to those below you. Your smile was warmer than the very sun. You would come and talk to him for hours on end. These talks didn't consist of what he thought. You just genuinely cared about others about him. You asked not about his voice, or what he could play for you. No, you asked about him. Plain and simple. Who he was, and such.
Somehow the days you both spent talking turned into weeks and then months.
He had grown to adore the talks that the both of you had.
You would take him away from the duties that he had merely so that you could talk to him in private. All so that you could enjoy each other's company.
Before Jinu had realized it a romance had beautifully blossomed.
The love between the two of you was warm. Far warmer than any fire, or blanket. The love in which he held for you rivaled the one that man had for the very sun. In your way you were the sun. His sun.
Jinu had long since forgotten the deal that he had made long ago.
The times that he spent with you were the happiest of his entire life.
But, life had a way of bringing back up the past. This couldn't have been more true, for when the voices started.
Voices that would yell and scream in his mind. Over time yelling louder and louder. The voices seemed to only get worse and worse. They filled him with a sense of dread and despair that spread throughout his entire body.
Through all of that he could live with the voices. With the dread and the despair. He had the luxury he had longed for, and he had you.
That was all he ever needed.
Until, he didn't have you anymore.
You had gotten sick. So sick in fact that Death himself was days away it seemed from knocking on your door. You would be dead within a month if not sooner.
Jinu was heartbroken Devasted even. He hadn't known love until he had met you. You made his life and soul whole. If he were to lose you it would be like losing a part of himself.
So he prayed, pleaded, and begged to any God that would listen to him. Save you please. Don't take you from him. Don't take his sun.
Then a voice spoke in his mind. A voice he had remembered from a time that seemed like eons ago. Somehow, he remembered the voice. The voice offered him a lifeline.
You would die, but your soul would persevere, and move on to the next lifetime. This cycle would continue for eternity.
In return for this gift Jinu would become something he had only heard stories of. A demon.
His soul would be chained and tortured for Gwi-Ma's benefit. Forever.
The hesitation he held was on that lasted only briefly. He thought about the pain and suffering that you have endured. Without another thought on the matter he agreed.
The transition happened quicker than he thought it would, but it was no less painful. His humanity was gone. Never to be seen again.
However, like Gwi-Ma had said you did indeed die, but your soul had lived on. For many centuries over and over you lived many lifetimes, all in which your soul survived.
Jinu had saw you again, but it was every fiber of what was left of his heart that he hoped you were happy.
His past was something that he had not liked to think about often. His past was not one he thought of when he proposed the idea of a demon boy band to Gwi-Ma. It was by sheer luck that Gwi-Ma had agreed at all.
The plan unfolded exactly as he predicted it to. They were loved all around. The Saja Boys were a hit unlike any other.
Jinu in his long existence as a demon considered himself unable to feel any emotions anymore. Such things were from a time long since passed.
He was proven wrong when he saw a face he never thought he would see again. A face that might as well been a ghost. The soul of the poor individual that he was stealing from was long forgotten.
Surely it could not have been you. Right?
Against every part of him that said otherwise he followed you. Whatever was left of his heart gave a traitorous thump against his ribcage when he heard you speak.
It really was you. After all this time.
He wanted to hug, kiss, and hold you. He had missed you so much. You looked the exact same as you did so long ago.
But his world came crashing down when the realization hit him. He was far different than he used to be. A monster among men. The marks covering his skin were a testament to that.
Besides, it wasn't like your soul would have remembered him anyhow. But oh how he longed to see you smile again. To hear you laugh. To feel your warmth.
He knew he had a job he was supposed to do, but that small part of him that was still human that longed to see you again said otherwise.
hi!! this is my first time requesting 😅 for kpop dh, i was thinking about a love triangle between reader, jinu and rumi. basically jinu and reader have a thing for each other?? and then rumi just came in the picture 😓💔 idk forgive me i cant think of anything 😭 my reader self just wants a lot of angst !!! 🙏 TYSM!!
(K-pop Demon Hunters AU vibe)
Jinu x Reader x Rumi
The first time you realized something was wrong was when Jinu stopped finishing your sentences. It used to be a little game between you.
You’d start humming a melody while leaning over the studio console and Jinu would slide in beside you, adding the harmony like it had always belonged there. Your fingers would brush on the keyboard, both of you pretending not to notice.
It wasn’t official. But it was something. Everyone could see it. Everyone except, apparently, Rumi. Or maybe she saw it too well.
You noticed the change slowly. Jinu started laughing more when she was around. At first you didn’t mind. Rumi was bright and warm, the kind of person who filled a room with light. She teased Jinu in ways you never dared to, bumping his shoulder, stealing his headphones, leaning close when she talked.
You told yourself it was nothing. But then one night in the practice room, everything cracked. You had come back to grab your jacket. The lights were dim. Music was still playing faintly from the speakers and Jinu was standing there with Rumi.
Too close. Your hand froze on the door handle when you heard her voice.
“You look at them differently,” Rumi said quietly.
Jinu rubbed the back of his neck. “What do you mean?”
“You know what I mean.”
Silence stretched between them. Your heart was already pounding. Then Jinu sighed.
“…It’s complicated.”
The words hit harder than anything else. Rumi tilted her head.
“Is it?” she asked gently. “Or are you just scared to admit you like them?”
Your breath caught. For a moment you thought he’d say your name. Instead, Jinu laughed softly, the kind of laugh that meant he was cornered.
“You’re reading too much into it.”
“Oh?” Rumi stepped closer.
“You don’t stare at people like that unless you care.”
Your fingers tightened around the door. You should leave. But your feet wouldn’t move. Then Jinu said something that made your chest twist.
“…Even if I did,” he murmured, “it wouldn’t matter.”
Your heart dropped.
Rumi frowned. “Why not?”
Jinu hesitated and in that tiny pause, you felt everything shatter. Because when he finally answered, his voice was quiet.
“…Because things change.”
Silence. Rumi searched his face.
“Do they?” she asked softly.
Jinu didn’t answer. But he didn’t step away from her either and that told you everything. Your chest felt hollow. You finally pushed the door open. Both of them jumped.
“Sorry,” you said, forcing a smile that didn’t reach your eyes.
“I didn’t mean to interrupt.”
Jinu’s expression immediately shifted.
“Hey— I thought you went home.”
“Forgot my jacket,” you said lightly.
You grabbed it from the chair. Rumi looked between the two of you, something unreadable in her gaze. Jinu took a step toward you.
“Wait, I—”
“I’ll see you tomorrow,” you said quickly.
Your voice stayed steady. You were proud of that. Because the second you turned around and left the room, the hallway lights blurred through the tears in your eyes. Behind you, Jinu didn’t follow and somehow that hurt the most.

JINU SPOTTED AT THE NY FASHION SHOW,,, I’M SCREAMING
[jinufashion.jpg: A few pictures of Jinu sitting at the front row on one edge of the runway, one leg crossed over the other as he looks ahead in interest.]
The Saja Boys’ global rise to fame almost seems to happen overnight. The music video for their first single, Soda Pop, is catchy and attention-grabbing, with colorful visuals and fun choreography. The song quickly dominates the charts, with millions of streams earned over mere days.
All the group really needs, according to the fans, is a designer or better stylist.
...Enter you.
word count: 9.8k| ao3 version (recommended for better formatting)
author’s notes: This has been rotting in my drafts for so long, omg. Ugh. Like, fly free, you stupid thing.
This is Jinu/Reader focused. The reader’s pronouns are he/him and his stylist name is Phantom; otherwise, no physical descriptors are used and race is ambiguous. I do my best to avoid naming the reader in my fics, but it was kind of necessary for this one. Plus, it’s a stage name anyway.
This will be canon divergent and non-compliant. No warnings I can think of, aside from allusions to the movie.

INTERIOR – Backstage at the Melon Music Awards.
You’re once again styling the Saja Boys, after a great reception of their most recent music video. You’re somewhat used to the chaos of the prep, with the guys flitting about as they get into hair and makeup before you’re putting the finishing touches on their outfits. Once you’re finished, you leave them to their final preparations.
As you’re heading down the hall, you occasionally pass a few artists or backstage crew members. As you turn the corner, you nearly crash into a few familiar figures. You recognize them instantly: Zoey, Mira, and Rumi from Huntr/x. You like their music a lot, actually; you’ve never had the chance to work with them, though you would like to.
They’re wearing two piece white and black outfits with gold accents, evidently for their performance of their recent single, Golden. Rumi’s vibrant purple hair is braided behind her; Mira’s pink hair cascades down her back, with two small portions tied back and some strands escaping near her face; and Zoey’s black hair is arranged into two buns.
It’s kind of crazy to see Huntr/x in person like this. They’re so popular, you’ve seen them on the Internet almost countless times. They’re one of the top-ranking K-pop groups in the country right now. And this is one of the moments where you have to remember yourself, remember that even if you know of them, they don’t know you.
You
(managing to recover your wits)
Oh, uh, sorry.
Zoey
My bad!
Mira
(crossing her arms over her chest)
No, it was definitely his fault.
Rumi
(chastising)
Mira…
You
(amused)
I mean, she’s kinda right.
ZoeyWait, you look familiar!
You
Oh, well… I’m a designer.
Zoey
Holy shit, no way! I knew it.
Rumi
(blinking at her in confusion)
What?
Zoey
(excitedly)
You’re Phantom, aren’t you?
You
Uh, yeah. Why?
Mira
Dude. Bobby’s been trying to bag you for months.
Zoey elbows her in the side.
What? It’s true.
Zoey
(huffing)
Not bag him!
She turns to you.
We’ve wanted to work with you for a while. But you’re always busy!
You
Wait. Wait. What? You have?
Mira
Duh.
YouI had no idea! I mean, I know your contracts can be a nightmare, but if I’d known you guys were interested…
Rumi
We’d love to work with you sometime!
You
Yeah, that’d be great! Seriously.
Mira and Zoey exchange nods.
Rumi
I’m Rumi. This is Mira and Zoey.
Mira
‘Sup.
Zoey
Hi!
You
Nice to meet you guys.
You introduce yourself in return, trying to fight off any nervousness. You’re actually talking to Huntr/x…! Crazy.
Rumi
So, what brings you here?
You
Oh, I’m just helping the Saja Boys.
Immediately, all three of their faces fall into grimaces.
Zoey
You work with those jerks?
You
(frowning slightly)
…Yeah. Why?
Mira
Have they ever tried to take your soul?
You stare at her, waiting for a punchline. It never comes. She’s staring at you sincerely.
You
Uh. What?
Rumi
Ohohoh—kay.
(laughing awkwardly)
She’s just kidding!
Mira
(flatly)
Ha-ha.
There’s a dark look on her face as she stares at you. Rumi notices this too and grimaces, throwing a hand over her friend’s face. Mira calmly pushes it aside and continues to study you.
Rumi
(brightly)
Anyways. It’s so good to meet you—!
Suddenly the air in the room almost seems to change. Rumi’s eyes widen a bit and she takes a wary step back from you. You blink and turn slightly to find Jinu, leader of the Saja Boys, heading over to you, eyebrows furrowed.
Jinu
Everything all right here?
Rumi
(quickly)
Yeah, yeah.
Mira
(nonchalant as always)
Totally.
Zoey
(a little too fast to be genuine)
Definitely!
Jinu takes in the picture the three of them make, before turning back to you. His hand falls onto your shoulder.
Jinu
Abby ripped his shirt. And not in the normal way.
You
Oh.
The tone of Jinu’s voice suggests that this constitutes some sort of emergency, and that he expects you to fix it. You turn back to Huntr/x reluctantly.
Sorry, guys, guess I have to go. But it was great to meet you.
Rumi
You too.
Mira and Zoey echo the sentiment. Before you can speak for any longer, Jinu is turning you around and steering you down the hall. You blink and sneak a glance back at Huntr/x, only to find them immersed in serious conversation.
Jinu
What did they want?
You
Oh, nothing really.
They just introduced themselves. They were asking if I could work with them soon.

You

Not that busy.
Jinu
Still. Us first.
You scowl and keep quiet, not having the energy for argument.

INT. – Backstage before a performance, a week later. The Saja Boys are singing Your Idol live on TV. You’re making small adjustments to their outfits before they go out on stage.
You
(watching as Abby teasingly backs away from you)
Hey, get back here. I need to fix your collar.
Abby dodges you again. Eventually you lose your patience and just yank him back toward you. Abby obeys with a shit-eating grin on his face.
You
(slightly frustrated)
Stay still.
Abby
(smirking)
Yes, sir.
You just roll your eyes and make some adjustments, ensuring that uneven wrinkle on his collar is smoothed out.
Romance
(whispering to Mystery)
I’ll have what he’s having.
Mystery lets out an amused exhale. Abby hears him and grins.
You’ve long grown used to tuning them out as you work, so that’s what you do. You don’t hear these remarks, nor do you notice the mischief gleaming in Romance’s eyes as he turns to you.
Romance
Hey, I think my collar’s messed up too.
Before you can head over, Jinu is interjecting.
Jinu
It’s fine.
______
INTERIOR – The dressing room at an idol variety show, a few minutes before the guys are scheduled to make an appearance. Abby, Mystery, Romance, and Baby are ready to go—and they just left the room to take a peek at the stage and set. Jinu is here with you now, as you make a few last-minute adjustments to his suit. The collar isn’t really cooperating, and you keep having to fix it every few seconds.
Eventually, you give up on trying to be unobtrusive. The occasional brush of a hand shouldn’t kill Jinu.
…At least, that’s what you think. But once you reach back and fix the collar at the nape of his neck, he flinches and fidgets a bit. You draw back and look at him expectantly, knowing he’s usually the last one to make things difficult. He has to go on with the group in a few minutes—you don’t have time for games.
Jinu
Your hands are freezing.
Oh. That makes a lot more sense. You would’ve been concerned if he were trying to make things harder for you. He’s not usually the type. As the leader of the Saja Boys, he’s typically the one to reign in everyone else’s chaos.
You
Sorry. I have health issues.
…
Actually, no, I’m not sorry. Deal with it.
Jinu looks at the wall ahead of him as you finally get his collar looking how you want it. Then you back away, tilting your head and looking at his outfit.
Jinu
…I’m sorry. I didn’t know.
You blink up at him, briefly distracted from your scrutiny.
You
It’s fine.
You crouch down and readjust the taper of his pants, focusing on one awkward bend in the ankle. Jinu seems slightly more restless than usual, as if he’s uncomfortable with your proximity. You make your quick fixes before standing back up.
There. How’s that?
Jinu looks in the mirror, begrudgingly turning and looking at himself with multiple angles.
Jinu
It’s… good.
You
You sure? I can fix it if it’s not comfortable.
Jinu
No. It’s good.
He looks at himself in the mirror for another moment, before making eye contact with you in the reflection.
Not sure how we did this without you before.
You don’t really know how to respond to that, so you shoot him a slight smile before reaching your arms over your head to stretch a bit. You can get pretty stiff when you’re fixated on your work, often ignoring muscle aches and pains.
Jinu noticeably looks away. After a moment, he breaks the silence.
Jinu
You have any siblings?
You
Uh… yeah. Why?
Jinu
Younger?
You
Yeah.
He nods as if he expected this.
Jinu
Thought as much.
You kind of have an older brother aura about you.
You
(amused)
Is that a good thing?
Jinu
Yes.
Kind of a stickler, but… responsible. Like I should’ve been.
You look over in confusion. He doesn’t give any explanation for this ominous remark, instead jumping down from the small platform and brushing his hands on his pants.
Jinu
Thanks.
He’s already heading out of the dressing room before you can respond.

Lie Detector Test w/ Phantom!
[phantomldt.transcript:
You can be seen sitting at a table in front of a brick wall, wearing a sweater over a collared shirt, baggy pants, and platform boots. You seem to be looking at someone behind the camera as you smile self-deprecatingly.
You
I didn’t think I was this popular.
(laughing)
Cheery music plays as the Vanity Fair logo flashes over the screen, on top of a few clips of your reactions throughout the video. Then the logo fades and the screen returns to you, staring at the camera with a reluctant smile.
You
Hi. I’m Phantom. I’m a designer based in Seoul; I’ve worked with actors, singers, celebrities… Most recently, I’ve designed for Saja Boys and Huntr/x.
Photos of your work fade in and out on the screen, showcasing the breadth and variety of your work.
I guess I’m here today to take a lie detector test! Yikes. I don’t think I have anything to hide, but I’m getting nervous…
A crew worker can be seen at the edge of the screen, wrapping a blood pressure cuff around your upper arm. They then set up some small cuffs on two of your fingers (a galvanograph, supposedly) and some sort of cardio reader. They look to the administrator before disappearing.
You
Jesus, I’m terrified. Lowkey. Maybe highkey.
A dramatic spotlight is placed on you. You squint for a bit.
Interviewer
Is your designer name Phantom?
You
Yes.
Interviewer
Are you here to take a lie detector test?
You
Yes.
You look over to the administrator of the test, who is watching the polygraph. He nods. You then refocus on the camera.
Interviewer
You’ve liked fashion from a young age, right?
You
Ah, yeah! So ever since I was little, I really liked clothing. I couldn’t really articulate why at the time. I just liked feeling the textures of different clothes, I liked looking at all the different colors.
I actually am remembering now… My mom had to take me to some of her hair salon appointments, because my dad was at work. And while she got her hair dyed or touched up or whatever, I was usually left to my own devices. One Christmas, I got this… I guess it’s sort of a sketchbook? Except it had stenciled outlines for mannequins. I used to love drawing in that. Or I guess ‘coloring’ would be a more accurate word.
The administrator gives a thumbs-up.
Interviewer
What’s one fashion trend or item that you’ve never liked?
You
Ooh, that’s a good one. I’ll say… low-rise jeans. I never liked them, always thought they looked weird. Also, I feel like that’s definitely a trend that was optimized for skinny people. Low-rise pants were popular in the 2000s, and at the time, I remember beauty conventions being very strict. Of course, they still are, but you know what I mean.
Honestly, I just don’t think they look that great to begin with. There’s nothing wrong with wearing them with a sweatshirt, sweater, whatever. But when you combine low-rise jeans with a crop top, it’s way too much. I don’t want to be seeing that much of someone. Feels weird.
Interviewer
Have you ever styled for someone you didn’t like?
You
Yeah.
Interviewer
Who was it?
You
Yeah, no, not saying that.
But I will say that it was early on in my career. And, I mean, working with people you don’t like… that’s applicable to pretty much any career. You’re going to run into people you don’t vibe with, and that’s okay.
I’ve been very fortunate recently, to be able to pick and choose my clients. In the beginning, when no one knew me, I had to take what I could get. But now I get to be more selective. It’s a privilege for sure. But I like to think that I’ve worked hard for it.
Interviewer
Have you ever been told that you’re intimidating?
You
No. I don’t think so?
Administrator
(makes an uncertain face)
You
I mean, maybe? I don’t try to come off as intimidating.
Though I will say I’ve been told I have a resting scowling face. So that could be a contributor.
The administrator nods.
Interviewer
You once said that you believed fashion has a lot of room to grow. Do you think that’s still true?
You
Oh, absolutely.
Administrator
True.
You
Fashion reflects social norms. For a long time, people with paler skin, thin forms, and eurocentric features were considered beautiful. As time has passed, and we’ve tried to address many of the different prejudices that influence style, I think we often fall back into that same pitfall. Style these days is still confined to the gender binary. And it’s infinitely more accessible for thinner people. And men.
I could go on. (waves a hand dismissively)
Interviewer
Do you believe beauty is pain?
You
Oh, hm…
Yes. But also no?
I think it’s hard to find a real answer to that question. A lot of beautiful pieces are uncomfortable. Sleek outfits with leather, for example. Leather looks great, but it’s uncomfortable. High heels are another example: they look incredible and elegant, but they’re not designed to be worn for long periods of time.
I think beauty can be painful, but beauty shouldn’t necessitate pain, if that makes sense. Like, an outfit can be stylish and comfortable at the same time.
Interviewer
Recently, you’ve been receiving a lot of attention for your work with the Saja Boys.
You…
Interviewer…
You
Okay. Sorry, was that a question, or…?
Interviewer
Do you enjoy working with them?
You
Oh! Yeah.
Administrator
…True.
You
Whew.
(wiping a hand from your forehead in mock relief)
Interviewer
Do you have a favorite member to style?
You
Probably Romance. He tends to be the most easygoing when it comes to trying new things. Plus he dyes his hair pretty frequently, so it’s fun to experiment with color.
Administrator
True.
You give the camera a relieved grimace.
Interviewer
Do you like the Saja Boys more than Huntr/x?
You
Ha… (grimacing)
That’s tough. And kind of a multi-faceted question.
Interviewer
We can go through the different ones. Are you closer to the Saja Boys?
You
I—Oh. Uh. Yeah. I’ve been working with them longer.
The administrator nods in agreement.
Interviewer
In terms of music, do you like the Saja Boys’ better?
You
Ugh, I knew this was coming…
You rub your hands over your face before taking a deep breath.
No.
Administrator
…He’s telling the truth.
You
Don’t get me wrong, I like them both! But Huntr/x is just… I don’t know. There’s something about them! Their music is really magnetic. They make use of their harmonies really well. They’re versatile, while still having a recognizable sound. I like their music better.
…Saja Boys, don’t fire me.
Interviewer
Kiss, marry, kill these Saja Boys songs: Soda Pop, Your Idol, and Psyche.
You
(laughing in awkward pain)
Oh no…
Administrator
He’s getting nervous.
You
(dryly)
Wow, thanks.
Okay. I’ll kiss Your Idol. It’s a great song, but it definitely alludes to some of the dependency and parasocial feelings that can spring up between fans and their idols. Not something you’d want to build a long-term relationship on. I’d marry Psyche, because that song is already about introspection and making peace with your feelings. That makes me think it’d be a good partner.
Interviewer
Then that leaves Soda Pop. You’re killing it?
You
…Yeah.
Administrator
Heart rate’s rising.
You
Hey, come on…
Interviewer
What is it about Soda Pop that makes your heart rate go up?
You
Ugh, I’m going to get completely dragged for this…
(You bury your head in your hands for a moment, before letting your hands fall to the table with a dull thud and looking at the camera.)
Fine, I’ll tell the truth. I don’t like Soda Pop.
Administrator…Truth.
You
It’s more than that, actually. I really don’t like it. I kind of hate that song.
Adminstrator
Still true.
You
It’s just too upbeat for my liking. And when you compare it to Idol and Psyche, which both have a lot more symbolism… I don’t know. It doesn’t do it for me. I don’t like that kind of peppy music.
Plus, it kind of reminds me of my days working in retail… Soda Pop gives off the vibe of a song that would be blasted through a department store for days on end.
Interviewer
Have you worked at a department store?
You
Yeah, just as a high school job.
The nightmares of customer service… I really do think, truly, that everyone should be required to work a customer service job for one full year. That should be the requirement for graduating high school. I think it would make for a much nicer world.
I’m not trying to be ignorant in saying that minimum wage work is the worst situation a person can be in, or that working in retail or food service automatically makes you a good person or anything. It’s more… I just think it would be a rude awakening for a lot of people. Because you see how these [CENSORED]— whoops, probably can’t say that. You see how demanding and just completely rude people can be. And many of the customers who act like that, they’re used to being catered to. They’re not accustomed to being on the other side of the fence, have probably never even been over there.
The administrator and interviewer are both silent.
You
(laughing)
Went on a tangent there, sorry.
Interviewer
Have you ever been in a relationship with a client?
You
No.
The administrator nods in agreement.
You
That would be awkward. I like to keep work and personal life separate.
Interviewer
Have the Saja Boys ever irritated you?
You
Oh, of course.
But I’m sure I’ve irritated them too. It can be kind of stressful—on either side of the equation. If you’re an idol, you want your clothing to be seamless, an extension of yourself that’s still practical enough to perform in. If you’re a designer, you want your clients to look their best. I mean, I said it before, but it’s hard to have both.
And fashion is tricky sometimes! Some people have smaller comfort zones than others. Sometimes, you have to accept that. Other times, they may need to branch out a bit.
Interviewer
Final question: Did you lie at any point during this interview and get away with it?
You
No. I don’t think so. I’m terrible at lying, actually.
Administrator
True.
You
Did I pass?
Administrator
(wryly)
You passed.
YouSweet.

[LIVE] A Week of Celebration: Day 1!
Mystery
In celebration of the release of our new album Psyche, we’ll be doing a week of streams with different guests.
Baby
Go listen to the album if you haven’t already.
Abby nods.
Abby
And today we’re here with our beloved designer and stylist… Phantom!
Abby promptly pulls you into view of the camera, looping an arm over your shoulders and grinning.
Say hi to our fans!
You
(slightly awkward, with a small wave)
…Hi.
Abby
Isn’t he adorable?
Mystery
(unimpressed)
What’s the next game?
Abby
Ah, eager to get to it, I see. How about you pick, Romance?
Romance
Okay.
Romance digs his hand into a fishbowl of paper slips, pulling one out and unfolding it.
‘Agree/disagree standing game.’
Baby
Cool.
Jinu
Do we have room for this?
Romance
Probably.
There’s some shuffling as you and the Saja Boys clear a space for all of you to stand.
Director
(from off screen)
Okay, most of you have probably played this game. I’m going to give you a statement, and you’ll stand where your opinion falls: strongly disagree on the far left—your right—, then disagree, and neutral in the middle. Agree and strongly agree are on the other side.
The members all nod. You shove your hands in your pockets and make sure to join the very back of the line. You all stand in the center and wait for your first round.
Director
Great. First one: ‘I’m a morning person.’
All of you spread out as you contemplate your answers. You end up standing in the “Neutral” line behind Mystery; Jinu is the only one in the “Strongly Agree” category; Romance, Abby, and Baby are all in the negative sections. They proceed to debate with Jinu about early morning dance practices, while you try to stifle a smile.
Director
Next one: ‘I like being the center of attention.’ Go!
You head over to the ‘Disagree’ section, blinking as you watch all five members head to the other side of the room.
You
Oh, I guess that checks out.
Romance
(teasingly)
Who’s the center of attention now?
You
Shut up.
You all return to the center of the room.
Director
‘I’m the most likely to hold a grudge.’
The members all but shove Jinu into the ‘Strongly Agree’ section. You and Baby are both in the ‘Disagree section’, with Romance, Mystery, and Abby in the neutral middle ground. Baby and you fist bump; Romance and Abby seem intent on airing Jinu’s dirty laundry, as they proceed to list the numerous times in which Jinu got mad at them for something and refused to let it go.
You all return to the middle of the room again.
Director
‘I’ve pictured my own wedding.’
And you walk right back to the ‘Strongly Disagree’ area. Staring at the guys, you realize you’re yet again an outlier.
Romance
(turning to Mystery next to him)
You probably have the venue picked out already, huh?
Mystery promptly hides behind his bangs.
That’s what I thought.
Abby
I already know what suit I’m wearing.
Baby
I mean… don’t most guys just wear a black suit anyways?
Abby
Well, maybe, but I’m not basic. I want it to be a tear-away at least. So I can just rip it off.
Romance
(amused)
Not a tear-away…
Abby
(turning to you)
Whatcha doin all the way over there? I know you’ve thought about our wedding at least once.
You
(rolling your eyes)
Shut up. And no, I haven’t.
Romance
You’ve never imagined it?
YouI mean, I don’t really believe in marriage. Not for myself, anyway.
Romance
Oh, would you look at that.
Before you can wonder what he’s talking about, Romance is heading across the room and standing behind you. He props his head up on your shoulder.
Guess I haven’t imagined our wedding either.
You huff in disbelief.
You
You’re stupid.
Romance grins and winks at the camera. The other members look begrudgingly amused at his antics, while Jinu looks strangely silent and blank. More so than usual, anyway. He’s staring at Romance rather intently, even as you all reunite in the middle of the room.

Back by popular demand: It’s Phantom, our favorite designer! Don’t tell the others, though.
You
(waving at the camera kind of awkwardly)
Hey.
Romance
Hey yourself.
You roll your eyes.
Mystery
Looks like the game for today is…
(reaching his hand into the fishbowl of papers, pulling one out and unfolding it)
…Truth or Dare.
Abby
Hell yeah.
Baby
No one’s daring you to take your shirt off.
Abby
Aw.
Maybe Phantom will.
Jinu
No, he won’t.
You
(with faux-defeat)
Fine, I won’t.
You all gather into a circle and begin the game. The first few rounds go pretty quickly, and you’re fortunate enough not to be called on. But once Mystery answers a tough question from Romance, he’s picking you to take your turn.
You
I guess I’ll do… Dare.
Mystery
Okay. I dare you to… read out your ten most recent Google searches.
You
Ten?!
Abby
Come on, it can’t be that bad.
You
I mean, let me look…
Oh God…
You scroll down, eyes skimming the screen, before you burst out laughing.
Abby
C’mon, dude, you gotta read ‘em!
You
Okay, okay. I can explain these. The first one is just ‘community fire’. I was looking for that meme from Community where the apartment’s on fire and everything’s chaotic.
‘Max Stranger Things’. I’ve never even watched that, so not sure why I looked it up.
The next one actually has you choking with laughter, as you bury your head in your hands.
Mystery
That bad?
Baby
It’s probably something crazy.
Romance
Or inappropriate.
You
Okay, well, given the context!
Jinu
(amused)
What context? You haven’t even given us any.
You
Shut up. Given the context. ‘Why was Nagito tied up’. The context is I was thinking about Danganronpa 2.
Silence. Then everyone’s laughing. Even Jinu is chuckling, that restrained smile on his face.
Oh, ‘Book Park Lounge’, I was looking for this place near me…
Romance
Whoa, we can’t just breeze past that.
You
Breeze past what?!
Ugh… it does look crazy out of context. But that does actually happen. Nagito gets tied up after the first trial and I couldn’t remember why. Danganronpa is wild out of context. And in context too.
‘Free guy all actors’. My mom wanted to know the one actress in the movie… ‘Waterpark simulator lag’, my game was lagging… And ‘scientology history’, because my friends and I were talking about those speedrunning videos.
The guys are all sporting various expressions of amusement. The room is starting to feel warmer. You groan and recline onto the floor, putting your hands over your face in embarrassment.
You
(muffled)
I’m never going outside again…
You sit there for a few moments in embarrassment, until there’s a hand on your ankle.
Jinu
(gently)
It’s your turn.

A few moments later, the new arrival makes himself known: it’s you. You’re wearing a short-sleeved shirt and baggy jeans, and after a moment’s contemplation, you take your sneakers off as you enter. You’re holding a nondescript bag of groceries, and you head across the screen and out of view again as you evidently put them away.

EXTERIOR – Streets of Gwangju, South Korea.
Romance, Jinu, and you are exploring the city, looking for the coffee shop you want to visit. You’re all decked out in casual clothing, T-shirts and shorts and sneakers. Romance has a bucket hat on to block some of the sun—how he makes it look good, you have no idea. You’re just settling for occasionally throwing a hand over your eyes.
You’re only about half a kilometer away from the coffee shop, but for whatever reason, the navigation is starting to send you on a strange path. You decide to pause and get your bearings. Romance scrolls on his own phone for a bit, before growing bored and sighing and resting his chin on your shoulder. You two are almost the same height, so it doesn’t make the gesture too awkward. He wraps his arms around your waist.
Jinu returns to the two of you after consulting a nearby map, eyebrows furrowing. He turns to Romance.
Jinu
Why… are you so close to him?
Romance
(with a shit-eating grin)
I have separation anxiety.
Jinu
(unconvinced)
Uh-huh.
And you’re letting this happen.
You look up from your phone to find him looking at you expectantly. You shrug. Jinu huffs, an uncharacteristic gesture for him. You raise an eyebrow and keep scrolling through your phone.
You
It says it’s… up ahead, to the left. I guess. It took us on a weird path, though.
Jinu
Yeah, the map said that too. Must’ve tried to avoid foot traffic or something.
You
I guess so.
Romance
Well, lead the way.
You
I do have to walk, you know.
Romance lets out a dramatic sigh before reluctantly letting his arms fall from your waist. Though he then just sneaks a hand down and holds yours. You walk a few steps, only to realize you don’t hear Jinu walking next to you. You turn back around to find him still standing there.
You
Jinu?
Jinu
Right.
You
(with a playful smile)
I do have another hand, you know.
You hold out your hand, completely expecting him to laugh it off or scoff and walk away. Instead, he stares at your proffered hand for a long moment, before taking it. The three of you head off hand in hand, before Romance is suddenly dropping your hand and falling back.
You
What—?
You blink and turn, spotting Romance heading back toward Abby, Baby, and Mystery, who have finally arrived.
Oh.

EXTERIOR – Spazio Cavallerizze, Milan, Italy.
After months—no, years—of work, you’ve finally done it. Your designs have walked the Milan Fashion Week runway. The models all did wonderfully, as did the rest of the backstage staff. The fabrics were sleek and elegant, dark greens and blues blending into subtle greys. There were definitely a few mishaps: fitting conundrums moments before a model’s walk; a broken zipper; a missing shoe. But you did it. The hard part is over. All of your designs hit the runway without a hitch; you even made a brief appearance at the end, bowing and clasping your hands in thanks before quickly retreating.
Now, you can just relax. Right? You’re not sure. Your adrenaline is still pumping; your hands are shaking, you realize as you sort out your various notes and try to tidy up the mess you made of the temporary work station.
You’re tidying up one of your sewing kits when there’s a hand on your shoulder. You startle a bit, only to realize it’s a very familiar face. It’s Jinu. He’s wearing a well-fitted suit, the dress shirt underneath unbuttoned to show off his collarbones. He’s definitely dressed nicer than you are, that’s for sure. You’re wearing a simple dark grey dress shirt (probably wrinkled), dark wash jeans, and comfortable sneakers. (You had a feeling you would want to wear something decently comfortable to walk around in, and you were right. )
You
(breathless)
I thought I saw you. I didn’t know you were coming!
Jinu
Of course I did. Wouldn’t miss it.
You gravitate toward each other, as Jinu pulls you into a hug.
Jinu
Congratulations. You did so well.
You
Thanks.
Jinu
All the work this has taken… You should be really proud of yourself. Seriously.
You
Thank you.
You hug him for a bit longer. This seems to be fine with him, because he isn’t really letting go either. You’ve probably passed the point of socially appropriate, but it’s fine. You just finished Milan Fashion Week!
It’s clear you’re both reluctant to part, and even as you try to pull away and maintain your composure, your hands are sliding down his arms like you can’t physically let go. Jinu’s hands settle at your waist, your eyes meet, and time seems to stop. He leans in closer, your hand rises to rest beneath his jaw, and you’re kissing.
When you pull away, there’s a slight smile on Jinu’s face. A real one.

Good show. @phantom
(runway.jpgs: A series of photos Jinu took of the designs on the runway. They’re all from your collection.)
The streets of Myeong-dong, famous for shopping, fashion, and street food, were unusually crowded. Under the bright sun, a group of four friends strolled through the crowd in casual streetwear, though for them, these outfits were more of a disguise. After all, they were well-known K-pop artists.
Rumi wore a hoodie layered with a blazer and sweatpants, opting for comfort and concealment. Miro went with a classic hat-and-glasses combo, a white sleeveless shirt, and denim pants. Zane sported a laid-back streetwear style that blended perfectly with others their age.
(Y/n), however, stuck to her signature white aesthetic: a cute lolita-style white dress adorned with a black bow at the collar, her hair in low twin pigtails tied with white scrunchies, and a classic white face mask covering half her face.
“He’s got this special tonic. Apparently, it can heal anything from sore throats to relationship problems,” Zane said excitedly, loudly enough that Rumi immediately hushed him.
“Shh! Quiet, Zane.”
“Why are there so many people today?” Miro asked, scanning the overly packed streets.
“Oh, it’s down that alleyway,” Zane pointed to his phone and began walking ahead. Rumi, (Y/n), and Miro quietly followed him down a side street.
What they didn’t notice was the buzz among the crowd, all holding flyers advertising a free noon concert.
“Who are the Saja Boys?”
The group finally stopped in front of a modest building with a neon sign that read ‘Han’s Clinic.’ Miro looked unimpressed.
“Yep. About as legit as I expected,” he remarked sarcastically.
“Earthy and herby. Smells legit to me,” Rumi said with gentle optimism, not wanting to hurt Zane’s feelings. He appreciated the effort.
“Yay! That’s the spirit!” Zane cheered, hugging Rumi before pulling him into the clinic. What none of them noticed was that Rumi had unconsciously grabbed (Y/n)’s wrist and pulled her in with him.
“Hurry before someone sees us,” Miro urged, quickly slipping inside behind them.
Inside Dr. Han’s office, books, awards, and certificates filled the space. Rumi sat in the middle chair while Miro, Zane, and (Y/n), now maskless, sat on either side. Zane, clearly the most excited, flashed two thumbs up at Rumi, who returned the gesture with a small smile.
While the boys distracted themselves, (Y/n) observed the photos on the wall. Most were obviously photoshopped, but one stood out: four boys hugging each other. She tilted her head in curiosity, which all three boys noticed at the same time and unanimously thought: Cute. Before she could think more, the office door opened.
“Rumi-nim,” Dr. Han greeted, recognizing all members of Huntrix and Korea’s beloved Angel. Everyone stood and bowed respectfully.
“No need. Sit, sit,” the doctor chuckled, motioning them back into their seats.
“You need no introduction. So… a problem with your voice?” he asked, pausing in front of Rumi for a quick assessment.
“Yes. We need one of your awesome tonics, something that works fast,” Zane said eagerly.
“Okay, let me see.” The doctor adjusted his glasses and examined Rumi.
“Ahhh,” Rumi complied, opening his mouth.
“Uh-uh-uh. To heal the part, we must understand the whole,” the doctor corrected, gesturing to Rumi entirely. He then inhaled deeply, opened his eyes dramatically, and stared at Rumi wide-eyed, startling (Y/n).
“Uh…” Rumi leaned back slightly, unnerved but willing to try anything for a cure.
“I see… no, actually, I don’t. Very strange. You have many walls up.”
“Whoa! He’s good, right?” Zane whispered to Miro and (Y/n) in awe.
“So many walls.”
“Walls? I don’t have walls,” Rumi scoffed, dismissing the idea.
“Uh, yeah you do. He’s kinda right,” Miro admitted, lowering the magazine he was reading. (Y/n) nodded beside him.
“I’m just trying to stay focused,” Rumi defended.
“Focus is good, but focusing on one part causes you to neglect the others. It makes you… separated. Isolated,” the doctor explained.
“Ooh! Emotionally closed off?” Zane blurted out.
“Yes! Yes!” the doctor confirmed.
“He’s also a workaholic. Doesn’t know how to relax,” Miro added.
“I do know how to relax!”
“He bottles up his feelings,” (Y/n) added softly.
“(Y/n)! You’re supposed to be on my side,” Rumi whined.
“I bet he refuses to go to the bathhouse with you,” the doctor guessed.
“Oh my gosh, yes! How did you—”
“We’ve been trying forever,” Zane and Miro said in unison, cracking up.
“How is this helpful?” Rumi grumbled.
“It’s helping me a lot,” Miro smirked.
“Whoa, how’d you know all that just by looking at him?” Zane asked the doctor. But then the doctor turned his eyes to Zane.
“Hm. I see…”
“Wait, why are you looking at me?”
“Eager to please. Maybe a bit too eager.”
“What? Ahahaha! I'm not like that. You'd tell me if I was like that, right?” Zane turned to the others for reassurance.
“Um…” Miro and Rumi exchanged glances.
“It’s okay, Zane. It’s not eagerness, it’s concern. That’s what makes you, you. And I love that about you,” (Y/n) said sweetly, patting his hand. Zane turned red.
Next, the doctor tried to analyze Miro, but the moment their eyes locked, a silent battle began. Miro grunted. The doctor whimpered. Miro smirked in triumph.
“Yeah. That’s right.”
Finally, the doctor turned to (Y/n), who smiled gently at him.
“I see… nothing, yet everything. Kindness, innocence, faith in goodness. You really are an angel,” he said in awe. (Y/n) smiled, tilting her head.
“But how does this help my voice?” Rumi asked again, frustrated.
“To heal the part, we must understand the whole,” the doctor reiterated, this time gesturing to the whole group.
“Okay, but we came for the tonics.”
“Just give us the voice juice,” Zane begged.
“Hm… I know just the tonic you need,” the doctor relented, knowing they weren’t ready to understand his full message. But (Y/n) was still thinking about it, feeling like she was missing something important.
As the two boys waited outside the clinic, Rumi and (Y/n) sat together in the waiting area. Her head rested gently on his shoulder. Rumi glanced down at her, and a giddy warmth filled his chest. He loved the way she smelled, the gentle weight of her against him. But not wanting to overstep boundaries, he quickly looked forward, redirecting his thoughts—only to spot something that made him pause.
“Is that us? And (Y/n)?” he muttered.
Two framed photos were hanging on the wall. One was a promotional picture of Huntrix, each member holding a canned drink, except the doctor’s own photo was poorly glued beside them. The second frame featured (Y/n)’s perfume ad, but again, the doctor had inserted himself into the photo, posed in such a way that the perfume was being sprayed on him. Rumi felt creeped out and hoped (Y/n) wouldn’t notice.
“Ugh. Zane…” Rumi muttered under his breath, exasperated.
“Your tonics are ready!” the doctor suddenly announced, holding up a box with the clinic's logo and intricate design.
Both Rumi and (Y/n) stood, and Rumi took the box to carry it himself. They thanked the doctor and the staff before exiting the building, where Miro and Zane were waiting outside.
“We got the tonics! We got the tonics!” The two boys chanted as Rumi opened the door, letting (Y/n) exit first before following.
As they began walking toward the main street, (Y/n) suddenly stopped and started rummaging through her purse.
“Something wrong, (Y/n)? Looking for something?” Miro asked, cool and composed.
“Yeah… I think I left my face mask inside the clinic,” she replied, still searching.
“Want me to go get it?” Rumi offered, already stepping back.
“No need, I’ll go get it myself. Just wait here for me, okie?” she said cutely before heading back inside. All three boys sighed dreamily at her adorableness.
Back in the alley...
“Yay! Once your voice is fixed, we can get back to the important stuff, like the fans!” Zane said excitedly. But just then, the boys heard approaching footsteps and saw shadows moving toward the alleyway. “Totally... nice,”
“Fans!” Miro exclaimed, panicking with Zane.
“We can’t let them see us!” Zane and Miro quickly hid behind Rumi and yanked his hoodie up. Rumi, caught off guard, used the box to hide half his face. The three of them silently thanked the heavens that (Y/n) was still inside.
“Hurry!”
“Be cool. Look normal.”
~ “Oh yeah!” ~
The sunlight poured into the alley as four unfamiliar yet stunning boys walked confidently, almost in slow motion.
~ “Come on.” ~
“Hmm?” The three Huntrix boys stared, captivated by the approaching group. It felt… hypnotic.
~ “Take your time.” ~
Miro and Zane were clearly in awe, their jaws slack. Rumi looked at them with disbelief.
~ “Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na.” ~
All four boys flipped their hair in perfect sync, enhancing their flawless appearances.
~ “So tonight…” ~
One of them, wearing a tight Hawaiian shirt stretched dramatically. The shirt grew tighter… and then—
Pop!
The buttons burst open one by one until the shirt flowed open, exposing perfect abs.
~ “Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah…” ~
Zane and Miro stared, stunned. Popcorn inexplicably began streaming from their eyes. Zane tried to catch it with his bucket hat, while Miro happily munched.
“So hot…” Zane whispered.
“Ugh, you guys are disgusting,” Rumi grumbled, watching them drool over the stranger’s abs. But then his attention shifted to a figure behind the four. A black-haired male.
Ethereal.
Otherworldly.
Rumi’s breath caught.
The mysterious boy flipped his hair, causing a sudden gust of wind that blew Rumi’s hoodie back and revealed his purple hair. Just as Rumi was hypnotized, the male brushed against him, knocking the box from his arms. The tonics scattered across the floor as Rumi fell in a very ungraceful heap.
The tall boy extended a hand to help him up but then brushed his own shoulder, implying Rumi had dirtied him by touching him.
“Watch yourself,” the boy said coldly.
“Huh?” Rumi blinked. Then he gasped. “Did he just insult me?!”
Before Huntrix could say anything else, the five mysterious boys bumped into someone.
“Oof! Ah, I’m sorry, I didn’t see you there,” (Y/n) said kindly, having just exited the clinic.
But for the five boys, time slowed. To them, she sparkled. Her lashes fluttered. Her voice echoed like a melody.
“Rumi!” she called sweetly.
Minutes earlier...
After stepping out with Rumi, (Y/n) had realized her face mask was missing. She stopped to search her purse.
“Is there something wrong, (Y/n)? Looking for something?” Miro asked again.
“Yeah, I think I left my face mask inside the clinic.”
“Want me to get it?” Rumi offered.
“No need, I’ll go get it myself. Just wait here, okie?”
Inside, (Y/n) spotted the doctor still at the front desk.
“Yes, (Y/n)-nim? Is there something else you need?” he asked.
“Uh, yes. I think I left my face mask here. Also... do you have any medicine for abdominal pain?”
“Hmm… as I said before, to heal the part—”
“We must understand the whole,” she cut in gently. “Yes, I’m still figuring that out. But right now, I just need the medicine, please.”
He nodded. “I have just the thing.” Moments later, a staff member returned with both her mask and medicine.
(Y/n) paid, bowed respectfully, and stepped out, only to walk into the chest of one of the mystery boys, who caught her gracefully.
“Oof! I’m sorry, I didn’t see you,” she said, looking up at the handsome stranger and the four others behind him. She noticed the ab-boy’s shirt was completely open and ruined.
(Y/n) reached into her purse and pulled out a small sewing kit. “Here, you might need this,” she said sweetly, offering it to him.
For the first time, the shirtless boy blushed. But (Y/n)’s attention quickly moved past them.
“Rumi?” she called in concern, seeing him on the ground while Miro and Zane helped him up. She brushed past the boys and rushed to Rumi’s side. The five strangers looked after her in stunned silence.
(Y/n) knelt beside Rumi, checking him for injuries before helping gather the scattered tonics.
“Watch my… Watch yourself!” Rumi snapped toward the retreating boys. “Ugh! Look at this mess!”
“They’re not even that cute. What were we thinking?” Miro muttered.
“They’re so blah!” Rumi added grumpily.
Zane gagged. “I feel sick for even admiring those abs…”
“No, they’re—” Miro began, but couldn’t even finish the sentence.
“Come on, guys. Be nice,” (Y/n) giggled as she helped repack the box.
“But (Y/n), they’re…” All three boys dramatically retched.
“I’m gonna throw up,” Zane said dramatically.
Suddenly, music began blaring from the main street.
“Wait… What’s that?” Rumi asked.
They peeked toward the street, where pink smoke was rising and a crowd was gathering. Zane and Miro quickly fixed their outfits. Zane tugged too hard on Rumi’s hoodie, accidentally choking him.
“Oof, sorry!” Zane gasped.
Rumi stood straight, inhaled deeply, then exhaled before walking with the boys and (Y/n), heading toward the pink smoke as the beat of the music grew louder.
~”Hey, hey!”~
A crowd was beginning to gather around a sudden street performance.
~”Hey, hey! Don’t want you, need you. Yeah, I need you to fill me up. 마시고 마셔 봐도 (masigo masyeo bwado), 성에 차지 않아 (seong-e chaji ana).”~
“It’s those stupid jerks again,” Rumi muttered to Miro and Zane, irritation laced in his voice. Meanwhile, (Y/n) watched the performance, noticing that the five mysterious boys were almost looking directly at her. The dark-haired male even winked in her direction, though the boys beside her were too distracted by their anger to notice.
An ajumma squeezed between Miro and Rumi to get closer to the handsome performers, only to be blown back by a dramatic body roll from the dark-haired boy that created an absurd gust of wind, sending her flying back into her group.
~”Got a feeling that, oh, yeah (yeah). You could be everything that. That I need (need), taste so sweet (sweet).”~
“They’re a boy band?” Rumi asked in disbelief and slight horror—another potential rival group.
~”Every sip makes me want more, yeah. Lookin like snacks 'cause you got it like that (woo). Take a big bite, want another bite, yeah. 너의 모든 걸 난 원해, 원해, 원해 (neoui modeun geol nan wonhae, wonhae, wonhae).”~
On the giant screen behind the performance, a close-up of the dark-haired male’s Adam’s apple appeared as he drank one of Rumi’s tonic pouches. A wave of delighted screams erupted from the ajummas.
~”너 말곤 모두 뻔해, 뻔해, 뻔해 (neo malgon modu ppeonhae, ppeonhae, ppeonhae).”~
“Did he? One, two, three, four, five, six, HE STOLE ONE OF MY POUCHES!” Rumi gasped.
Zane and Miro scowled while (Y/n), despite everything, found herself bobbing along to the music. “You have to admit... it’s kind of catchy.
~”When you're in my arms, I hold you so tight (so tight). Can't let go, no, no, not tonight. 지금 당장 날 봐 시간 없잖아 (jigeum dangjang nal bwa sigan eopjana). 넌 내꺼야 이미 알고 있잖아 (neon naekkeoya imi algo itjana).”~
~”'Cause I need you to need me. I'm empty, you feed me, so refreshing. My little soda pop! You're all I can think of, Every drop I drink up. You're my soda pop. My little soda pop.”~
Zane’s shoulders started to sway to the beat. Rumi shot him a look. Zane froze... then subtly resumed. Rumi found himself doing the same. “It is... annoyingly catchy,” he admitted through gritted teeth.
~”Cool me down, you're so hot. Pour me up, I won't stop. You're my soda pop. My little soda pop.”~
“It’s infectious,” Miro added, now also moving slightly to the rhythm.
~”Ho-hoo-hoo. Ho-hoo-hoo. Ho-hoo-hoo.”~
(Y/n) blinked as two of the boys, specifically the pink haired male and the male in the pink sweater, blew kisses into the crowd, literal hearts flying into the audience. The special effects were so real they almost seemed dangerously real.
Miro, with excellent reflexes, caught one heart before it could hit (Y/n) in the face.
“They can make hearts out of thin air?” he muttered, bewildered. Crushing the heart in his fists.
Another heart slammed into Zane’s face. (Y/n) immediately helped him up, checking if he was bruised.
Suddenly, her breath hitched. She caught flashes, demonic eyes and glowing patterns briefly flickering over the boys’ bodies. She looked at the others. The same stunned realization was written across their faces.
“They’re demons!”
“Magicians!” Zane blurted.
“Demons. Obviously demons,” he quickly corrected himself.
~”My little soda pop. Uh, make me wanna flip the top. 한 모금에 (han mogeume), you hit the spot. Every little drip and drop, fizz and pop, ah. 소름 돋아 soreum doda it's gettin' hot.”~
“Dang, they’re good,” Zane grudgingly admitted as one of them rapped with smooth precision.
“Incredible... but a demon boy band? Why?” Rumi questioned.
“I don’t care. A demon’s a demon. We kill them,” Miro said, stepping forward with intention.
Rumi and (Y/n) both blocked his path. “No, it’s too public.”
“What if they hurt someone?” Miro asked, clearly torn.
“They’re not hurting anyone,” Zane pointed out. “They helped that girl at the corn dog stand, gave those stressed kids gifts. Not a single soul sucked.”
~”난 절대 놓칠 수 없어 (nan jeoldae nochil su eopseo). 널 원해 꼭 (neol wonhae kkok)”~
“In fact, they almost seem nice?” Zane pondered aloud.
“Demons are never nice!” Rumi and Miro snapped in unison.
But then all three boys simultaneously stomped on the corn dog the girl had been holding. “Don’t eat that!” Rumi warned.
“Ah, nooo!”
(Y/n) quickly offered the girl a replacement corn dog with mustard. “Here, this is much tastier. I’m so sorry about my friends.”
“Angel?” the girl whispered, awe-struck.
Meanwhile, the boys ripped the kids’ gifted items apart.
(Y/n) sighed, mortified. “Here. I know it’s not the same, but I hope these help.” She pulled out handmade cookies from her purse, giving them to each child.
“Thank you, Ms. Angel!” The kids chorused with bows before walking away.
~”Come and fill me up. Just can't get enough, Oh. You're all I can think of, Every drop I drink up. You're my soda pop. My little soda pop (yeah, yeah).”~
“They’re going after the fans. We’ve gotta stop this now,” Rumi growled, determined.
“Rumi, wait!” (Y/n) shouted, hurrying after him.
~”Cool me down, you're so hot. Pour me up, I won't stop (oh, oh). You're my soda pop. My little soda pop.”~
Each Saja Boy posed for the crowd, feeding their charm. But one by one, their eyes flicked to the girl in white.
Captivated.
Entranced.
She stood out like a dream in the chaos.
~”Ho-hoo-hoo. Ho-hoo-hoo. You're my soda pop. Gotta drink every drop”~
The performance ended. The boys blew kisses and waved. Rumi stood fuming beneath them. The dark-haired male dusted his shoulder again, mocking him.
“That’s it for now! See you tonight on everyone’s favorite variety show. The Saja Boys love you!” the lead announced.
~“My little soda pop.”~
Beside Rumi, (Y/n) scanned the five of them. Each one sends both flying kisses and winks towards her.
All three Huntrix boys witnessed it and snapped. The boys vanished into pink smoke as the crowd screamed. Behind them, a large screen flashed the title of the show: “Play Games With Us.”
(Y/n)'s eyes widened. She was scheduled to be on that show tonight.
“That was incredible.” “I like that group!” The crowd buzzed with excitement over the new boy band, causing Rumi to growl in irritation.
“To be fair... that’s also something a magician would do,” Zane muttered.
“Oh, those aren’t magicians,” Rumi snapped. “Those are demons. And we’re gonna kill them. Let’s get battle-ready.”
The group turned back toward the tower, but (Y/n) paused, glancing at her phone, a moment that didn’t go unnoticed.
“(Y/n)? Aren’t you coming back home with us?” Miro asked.
“Uhm, actually, I have a scheduled appearance I need to attend,” she replied, keeping her tone calm.
“How will you get there? Do you want us to drop you off or something?” Zane offered, always concerned for her safety.
“No need,” she smiled. “Bobby’s sending a car to my location. You guys go ahead. Be safe, alright?”
“Okay,” Rumi said with a sigh, still concerned. “Just, text us when you arrive, alright?”
“I will. Happy hunting.” She waved as the car pulled up, and the boys watched her drive away before heading back home to prepare for battle.
Meanwhile... Back at the Huntrix tower:
Heavy metal music blasted through the speakers as the boys geared up. They were loud, angry, and focused, but grateful that (Y/n) had a schedule that would keep her away from their chaotic prep.
One by one, they showered, applied skincare, strapped on black leather battle gear, and selected the perfect accessories and light makeup to match the intensity of the upcoming showdown.
Rumi tightened his gloves, looking toward the others. “Let’s go kill these guys.” Behind them, a neon sign flickered to life: “Kill Saja.”
“Caw-caw!” Zane screamed.
Back at the Network Building...
(Y/n) arrived at the station and was quickly escorted to her dressing room. Stylists flitted around her, curling irons hissing, powder brushes swirling, while she sat calmly, preparing for her next segment.
Then a staff member stepped in and delivered some unexpected news.
“There’s been a change in the schedule. Instead of a solo segment, you’ll be joining a new boy band for a joint variety portion. You’ll help judge the game portion and announce the winner, and you’ll still have time to reveal your big news.”
“Oh,” (Y/n) blinked. “Okay. Thanks for letting me know.”
She smiled kindly, always grateful for the hardworking staff.
Soon after, the stylists finished. She changed into a crisp white button-up blouse tucked into a soft pink pencil skirt, sophisticated yet graceful.
"Ten minutes to air. Talent, stand by." The announcement echoed through the hallway.
(Y/n) adjusted her outfit and took a steadying breath before heading toward the hallway lit with stage lights and buzzing energy. A male staff member approached her, clipboard in hand, headset tucked over his ear.
“Ms. Angel, this way please,” he said with a professional smile, but his eyes lingered a moment too long.
(Y/n) gave a small nod and followed him. The corridor was quieter here. Fluorescent lights buzzed faintly above, casting long shadows on the floor. Then he slowed his pace.
“You know…” he began, his tone lower now, “I’ve been working these shows for years. And none of them — not a single one — smiles like you do.”
(Y/n)’s expression didn’t change. “Thank you…”
But he kept talking, eyes watching her from the side.
“No, I mean it. Every time you smile into the camera… it feels like it’s just for me. That little tilt of your head? The softness in your eyes? I replay those clips… over and over.”
Her boots clicked sharper against the floor now. Her spine straightened. “We should keep moving. The show’s about to start.”
He stepped closer.
“And the way you talk… it’s like you’re whispering straight to me through the screen. You’re not like the others. You’re real. Not fake like the rest of them.”
His voice turned possessive.
Obsessive.
(Y/n)’s hand discreetly reached toward her comms.
“And this outfit—” his eyes swept over her body in a way that made her skin crawl, “you didn’t wear that for just anyone, right? You knew I’d be here.”
“Stop.” She turned to face him. Her voice was firm. “You’re crossing a line.”
He flinched, caught off guard, then his expression hardened.
“I knew it. They told me you were different. But not like this...”
He stepped closer, foot nearly touching hers—
“HEY!”
A thunderous voice cracked through the hall.
The dark-haired male from earlier emerged, followed by the rest of his bandmates. Their auras hit like a shockwave.
Cold.
Sharp.
Predatory.
Demonic.
The staff member stumbled back, trying to cover his tracks. “I-I was just escorting her, nothing wrong—!”
“You think you’re the first creep to get a job just to be near her?” the baby-faced one growled, eyes flashing gold.
The lavender-haired one bared his teeth in a quiet snarl, his voice deep and guttural. “Try touching her again and see what happens.”
The buff male and the pink-haired one moved forward, flanking (Y/n), placing themselves between her and the man.
“You touch her again,” the buff one warned, “and you’ll never work another show again.”
The dark-haired male didn’t say anything, he just walked up to the staff member, leaned in, and whispered something in his ear. Something that made the man's face drain of color.
“Get near her again, and I’ll make sure you disappear without a trace.”
Seconds later, security stormed in and restrained the stalker, dragging him away as he shouted nonsense: “She looked at me! She smiled at me! She wanted me!”
Silence returned.
Tense.
Heavy.
The dark-haired male finally turned to (Y/n), his tone now soft. “Are you okay?”
She nodded shakily, but her hand was still trembling slightly. Without a word, the five boys surrounded her, protectively, not possessively, and gently led her toward the stage.
The lights.
The music.
The crowd.
The show must go on.
But something inside (Y/n) had changed. Despite knowing they were demons. For the first time that day. She felt safe. The studio lights flared to life as both variety show hosts stood center stage.
“Introducing the new boy band that's dominating the social media world, Saja Boys! And alongside them, the nation’s beloved Angel herself, (Y/n)!”
The crowd erupted into thunderous cheers as the Saja Boys confidently strutted onto the stage, waving to fans. Beside them, (Y/n) stepped into the spotlight with her usual grace, smiling sweetly as chants of her name rang out. The cameras panned to the six high chairs being wheeled out, each adorned with colorful bibs labeled with a Saja Boy’s name.
The host with sunglasses grinned. “Today we’re playing the most anticipated chaos of the season… the Spicy Challenge!”
(Y/n) giggled, standing at the left side of the stage beside the shade-wearing host, ready to judge the madness. “I can’t believe I’m witnessing this,” she whispered, holding back laughter as she saw six grown men being strapped into high chairs with matching bibs.
Each Saja Boy was handed a baby bottle filled to the brim with flaming hot sauce.
“Let the challenge… begin!”
All six began chugging.
(Y/n) clamped a hand over her mouth to stop from bursting out laughing. Baby was happily kicking his feet like he was drinking warm milk. Everyone else? Looked like they were being tortured.
But as (Y/n) watched the chaos, something caught her eye. A flash of purple and pink backstage, just behind the set. Her eyes widened. There, crouched behind stage props, were all three Huntrix.
Miro. Zane. Rumi.
Fully decked in battle leather, gremlin smiles on their faces as they plotted their ambush.
(Y/n) had to look away before she laughed even harder. Both boy groups acting ridiculous in the same room? This was gold. Unknowingly, her smile made eight hearts pound harder.
“Welcome back to Who Can Chug the Most Hot Sauce?” (Y/n) called out playfully to the live audience, earning another round of cheering and laughter.
One by one, the Saja Boys started dropping.
“That’s one flaming hot Jinu,” she narrated as the dark-haired male slumped in his chair, looking absolutely destroyed.
“And Abby is down!” The buff male’s bib slipped as he collapsed, abs on display, prompting shrieks from the audience.
“Mystery is history,” she laughed gently as the lilac-haired boy sobbed behind his hair.
“Romance, looks like he's out with heartburn!” Romance coughed out a heart that literally caught fire mid-air. The audience went wild.
Soon it was down to the shade-wearing co-host and one last contestant.
“It's a dead heat between my handsome co-host and Baby Saja!”
The co-host turned beet red, tears streaming down his face, until finally, POP!
“So spicy! So spicy!” he cried, collapsing on the table, couldn't take the heat anymore.
“Nope, he can’t catch up! Baby Saja wins!” (Y/n) cheered.
Baby casually removed the bottle from his mouth with a small pop and muttered: “Goo goo, ga ga.”
The Saja Boys exploded into laughter, cheering for their youngest. Even (Y/n) giggled uncontrollably. At that moment, they didn’t seem like demons at all, they looked like brothers. Even she was surprised at how heartwarming it was.
Meanwhile, up in the rafters
“Once they come off stage, we jump.”
“They won’t even see it coming.”
“They’re done, done, done,” the Huntrix whispered with mischievous grins as they climbed to higher ground.
Back on stage, the show was wrapping up.
“Before we say goodbye, our lovely (Y/n) has a special announcement!” the shorter host beamed.
(Y/n) stepped forward, smiling radiantly. “First, I’d like to thank our hosts and the network for having me. And I want to officially welcome the Saja Boys into the entertainment world.”
She paused as the audience quieted.
“I’m honored to share with all of you that I will be releasing a new single.”
The crowd exploded into gasps and cheers.
“And since Baby Saja won today’s spicy challenge, he’ll be making a cameo in my upcoming music video.” More screams.
The boys behind her all reacted with surprise and excitement, Baby just staring blankly like it was no big deal. (Y/n) bowed gracefully and handed the mic back to the host.
“Well that was a surprise!” the host chuckled. “But… it’s hard to say goodbye when we’re having this much fun!”
“So hard. so hard.” he said smoothly, glancing toward the camera with a dark grin. Before the closing cue could roll, Jinu suddenly took the mic.
“Then why say goodbye, when we have extra special guests coming up?” The audience gasped.
Up in the rafters, the Huntrix trio froze.
“What is he doing?” Rumi whispered, watching Jinu’s unexpected move.
“Wait, did he just call us out?” Zane blinked.
Miro clenched his fists. “This isn’t part of the script.”
Rumi growled. “They knew we were here the whole time.”
As the Saja Boys struck a confident pose together, Jinu grinned toward the audience. “Please welcome Huntrix!”
(Y/n) froze in place.
What? How did Jinu know they were even here?
Spotlights swiveled toward the top of the set, revealing the three Huntrix boys peeking over the edge then quickly ducking back out of sight as they hurried to hide their weapons. (Y/n) resisted the urge to slap a hand to her forehead, instead forcing a smile for the camera. ‘Boys… how could you get caught?’
The audience erupted in cheers. Someone even shouted, “I love you, Huntrix!”
Rumi stepped forward with a nervous smile, trying to salvage the moment. “We just wanted to stop by and congratulate our hoobaes on their debut… and of course, support our dear friend (Y/n) and—”
“—And of course,” Jinu interrupted gleefully, “play games with us! Bring out the slides!”
The other Saja Boys rolled out a ridiculous three-part slide that ended in a colorful ball pit, a banner reading WELCOME HUNTRIX hanging above it in bubbly letters.
“Ah, no… we couldn’t possibly,” Rumi tried to protest.
But the crowd chanted louder. “In the balls! In the balls!”
Rumi sighed. “Sure. For the fans.”
The three Huntrix members climbed onto the slide, only for the moment to devolve quickly into disaster.
“Wait. What the—” The leather in their sleek outfits screeched loudly against the plastic, slowing their descent into an awkward, groaning crawl. The crowd grimaced.
“The leather has betrayed us,” Miro muttered.
(Y/n) and the Saja Boys wore identical looks of cringing sympathy as Huntrix finally, mercifully, flopped into the pit.
“And the Huntrix are in the balls!” the host announced triumphantly.
Emerging from the pit, the boys glared toward the Saja Boys, who were barely containing smug smirks. For the briefest moment, their eyes flashed amber.
“Well, this was fun,” Rumi muttered sarcastically as (Y/n) helped them out one by one. The Huntrix lined up on one side of the stage while the Saja Boys stood on the other, with (Y/n) caught awkwardly in the middle. Then the Saja Boys bowed.
“It was truly an honor to share the stage with you.”
The crowd swooned. “So hot!” “And respectful!”
Not to be outdone, Huntrix bowed lower. “No, the honor is ours.”
A bowing war broke out.
“No, ours.”
“Ours.”
“Ours!”
“Ours!”
“Oh, my back!” groaned one of the boys as the curtain began to fall.
Before the Huntrix could fully straighten, the Saja Boys dashed offstage, taking (Y/n) with them.
“(Y/N)!” the three screamed in unison.
She hadn’t even realized what was happening until a hand clamped over her mouth and strong arms swept her off her feet. They slipped out a side door and disappeared into… a men’s bathhouse?
“Let’s go get these guys,” Rumi growled.
“We finally get to go to a bathhouse with Rumi!” Zane gasped in excitement entirely misreading the moment.
(Y/n) looked up at her captor.
Romance.
“Hello there, my little Angel,” he cooed, giving her a wink.
“Well, aren't you a sight for sore eyes, Angel.” Jinu added with a mischievous smirk. The others gathered around, striking dramatically over-the-top poses like they were shooting a music video. It was ridiculous.
(Y/n), so done with her kidnapping situation, just went limp in Romance’s arms, her expression flat as she stared at the bathhouse ceiling not wanting to see something else.
“Aww, don’t worry, pretty little bird,” Jinu smirked. “We’ll give you back your boy toys… eventually.”
The flirtation was confusing, overwhelming and just a little flustering. And then the Huntrix arrived.
“Men’s…” Rumi said, realization dawned on him, horror blooming across his face. “This is a men’s bathhouse!”
And there stood the Saja Boys again, one holding (Y/n) dramatically.
“Wow,” Miro muttered.
“Did you really follow us in here?” Jinu teased. “I knew you would.”
“The cutie and that one’s always looking at me,” Abby added smugly, flexing just as a breeze conveniently revealed his abs. (Y/n) cringed. Zane and Miro, however, were mesmerized.
“No, we’re not,” they both stammered, eyes cartoonishly sparkling.
“Let (Y/n) go!” Rumi demanded. “We’re not letting you steal our fans.”
“Yeah, and hands off our Honmoon!” Zane added.
“We’re not here to fight…” Jinu began.
“They are.” From the steaming pools, water demons emerged, cracks in the enchanted floor glowing an eerie pink. More and more rose.
“Oh great. My favorite,” Miro grumbled.
“Don’t let this ruin bathhouses for you, Rumi,” Zane said, deflecting claws. “They’re usually relaxing.”
“Get rid of the Hunters. Then eat all the souls you want,” Jinu told the demons with a smile.
That was enough for (Y/n). She flipped out of Romance’s arms and landed gracefully between the two boy bands.
“Wha—hey!” Romance yelped, genuinely startled. Cute. Then chaos erupted.
Huntrix drew their weapons. The Saja Boys retreated. Jinu nearly slipped on a puddle as he tried to dramatically exit.
“Have fun!” he called, gremlin-laughing as Rumi gave chase, blade slashing toward him. “Whoa! Hey!”
They disappeared into a side room. (Y/n), now fired up, ran after the others.
Zane and Miro fought the water demons fiercely, but there were too many.
“The Honmoon’s getting worse!” Zane yelled. “We need Rumi!”
Meanwhile, Rumi and Jinu clashed. Jinu’s claws slashed Rumi’s sleeve, exposing glowing red patterns.
Jinu gasped. “A hunter… with demon blood?” Rumi froze.
Then the wall burst, revealing Miro and Zane locked in battle. “Rumi! We need you!”
He was spiraling, shame freezing his limbs, until (Y/n) threw her arms around him from behind.
And then… Jinu joined the embrace?
Rumi didn’t see it, but Jinu had thrown a napkin over his glowing arm and covered (Y/n)'s torn blouse with his button-up, hiding her own patterns before vanishing.
“Rumi! Get in here!”
Rumi looked at (Y/n). She nodded.
And with that, he charged into battle. Together, the three Huntrix turned the tide.
(Y/n) summoned a sphere of light. “Rumi, on three!”
He surged forward. She launched the blast. It hit the ground like a comet, eradicating the demons in a flash of white fire. They barely had time to catch their breath before—
“Hey! This is a men’s bathhouse! Why’d you bring a girl here? Get out!” The elderly ahjussi fumed, naked and furious. The boys scrambled, pushing (Y/n) out while bowing frantically, eyes carefully averted.
Back inside, the old man sighed, sat in the pool, and began singing Side Pop. Then a water demon rose behind him. And his soul was taken.
A while ago…
“I knew girls liked hot guys, but I didn’t know it was this bad!” Abby called smugly.
(Y/n) narrowed her eyes. That was it. She bolted forward and tackled the closes one near her, it was Mystery who then snarled and lunged at her.
“I am not a crazed fangirl! I’m just trying to do what’s right!” she snapped, twisting free as Mystery’s claws tried to swiped at her.
Romance entered the fray. “And we're doing what needs to be done, baby girl.”
Big mistake. Punches, kicks, and dodges, it was all (Y/n) could do to hold her own and hide her powers of light. Due to the public area there were currently in not wanting to draw attention.
“Do you own shirts that fit?” she snapped at Abby as his abs flashed again. She kicked him at his stomach.
“For you, babe!, you can look any time.” he grinned.
“Enough of this, We need to finish this. Even if we want to keep playing with her.” Baby muttered lazily while looking at (Y/n) flirtingly.
“!” (Y/n) being bashful at what Baby said.
“Aww, but I wanted to keep playing with her” Romance pouted.
The four Saja Boys moved as one to overwhelm (Y/n), but they didn't know that she had more then one trick up her sleeves.
"Enough." With a shout, she summoned a glowing lasso of light, trapping Baby and Romance mid-attack.
But in her distraction, Mystery and Abby’s claws tore through the bottom part of her blouse, revealing the demon patterns etched across her stomach.
Everything stopped.
Her arms flew to cover herself, but the damage was done, they saw and knew. The Saja Boys stared in stunned silence.
“…Demon pattern?”
She took a step back, panic rising. They’d tell Jinu. He would about her. Then they would expose her to the boys, the Huntrix. No one would ever look at her the same again.
Even Rumi, who had shown his patterns, hadn’t seen hers. She’d never dared.
Tears stung her eyes.
She ran.
Back to Huntrix. Back to safety. Back to the lie.
Behind her, one foot lifted as if to ran after her. A hand half-raised, wanting to reach out to her. Lips parted, ready to call out to her. But no words came, no one moved. The Saja Boys just stood there. And then the underworld summoned them home.
