There are usually plenty of clues, but most people prefer to go out of their way to remain clueless about them.
For example: Russia has been at war with Ukraine in the Donbas region since 2014 using two puppet states there as proxies. 2014 was also the year Russia illegally seized Crimea. Yet many people were caught by surprise when a full-blown war erupted in February with Russia’s invasion. Some of those same idiots are the ones now saying that Ukraine should “compromise” with or appease Putin. Of course when your enemy is out to eradicate the existence of your country the only compromise is for you to surrender and commit self-genocide.
Another example is the Supreme Court. A lot of people find recent SCOTUS rulings repulsive. Yet many who claim to be on the left failed to vote in presidential and US Senate elections over the decades or wasted their votes on unelectable imbeciles like Ralph Nader and Jill Stein – permitting George W. Bush and Donald Trump to fill the court with activist reactionaries.
Being a citizen of a democracy requires an always alert mind and an abandonment of the illusion that everything will turn out fine without your active participation in making reality-based choices. And making those good choices means being well informed locally, nationally, AND internationally.
