Found a solution for the lack support for moving images in Squid. I can't do gifs, but I *can* install a Shimeji-ee app and have characters running around the screen. Seeing that out of the corner of my eye attracts my attention better than any gif could.
I also have a music playing at a low volume constantly. If I walk anywhere near the kitchen it feels like I'm entering a To-Do list encounter. OH! WAIT. [TASK: Make a playlist with BotW enemy encounter music and set up on tablet]
Found an Android-based box with an HDMI port as a possible lead for freeing up my tablet. It'd be nice to just have a dedicated unit sitting on my table to reduce set up time and steps. Price isn't bad either, like $40. I just need to determine if everything I need for this is doable with keyboard and mouse and no touch screen or stylus features.
