Software Activation – How is it done
Software activation can be defined as an anti-piracy technology which is designed to verify that the product under consideration has been legitimately licensed in accordance with the software’s end user license agreement. It reduces a type of piracy, which is known as ‘casual copying’ or the transfer of software between people in a way which violates the license agreement.
Activation also helps to protect the intellectual property laws that lay in the heart of the software industry. It is done in a way that it has minimal impact on the users. Also, activation is a onetime thing which uses a completely anonymous procedure and does not demand any personally identifiable information from the end user.
How Activation Works
There are two ways activation can be achieved.
· Automatic Activation, and
· Manual Activation
If you have an internet connection, and your firewall allows, Automatic Connection can be possible during the installation or the running of the software.
However, if you have no connection (or your firewall doesn’t permit it), there is always an option of manual activation while you run the software on your device.
The activation KEY
The activation key is a random machine generated serial number . This key is entered at the time of activation of the software.
The Automatic Activation Process
At the time of installing the software, you are given an opportunity to enter the activation key provided with your software. It is only after you do that, that the installer will attempt the automatic activation of the software. If automatic activation fails, or if you do not enter the activation key, the software will typically install as a 15-day trial option which is fully functional, and can be activated later.
