Hiya, I was just wondering if idesexual has to mean all genders? I relate to it in theory but I’ve only ever shown attraction to men/Male aligned people. I don’t really factor gender in at all though, I’m genderblind (for lack of a better term) but so far I’ve only been attracted to men/Male aligned people. It’s okay if the answer is no I was just wondering if I could be idehomosexual? (For example)
Hi! Idesexuality is individual based attraction, which means that gender does not play a role in it. It is having a vague and watery conception of gendered attraction at best or not experiencing it.
One is drawn to the abstract qualities which makes up a person; their "idea" of them or what some would call "personality." It's less like "all" and more like having a capacity for attraction to "any" gender. A slight difference to make perhaps, but important to note!
It sounds like the people you've been attracted to thus far have only happened to be men or male aligned-- but you wouldn't view it as a preference, yes? If so, and you don't factor gender into it, I think it would be fair to say you relate to and may use this term! As idesexuals lack corporeal preferences (male, green eye, tall, etc).
And of course! While it's typically used in conjunction with a-spec identities, I think most orientations are permittable to use with the split attraction model. That's why it exists. To be used! And if it helps to describe yourself as idehomosexual, then go for it. :)

Rest assured anon, I wouldn’t call myself a supporter of it. I made that post specifically so that the negative connotations of sapiosexuality wouldn’t get conflated with idesexuality. In order to do that, I needed to recognize it as a term for comparison. That’s all. :)
I know it is a difficult concept to grasp, but I'm going to attempt to break it down-- if an idesexual person likes someone, it is as though that person becomes their orientation. So! Let's review: how do people explain what an orientation is? Well, most would say that it answers the question "which gender(s) you're attracted to" at its base, and how you experience said attraction. For pansexuals it's all, for asexuals that's none, and so on. In the case of idesexual people, it would be any gender; to simplify. This distinction is important for it describes rather, having the capacity for attraction to anyone regardless what their gender may be. Keeping this in mind, remember that idesexuals don't actually conceptualize gendered attraction. They just understand that they like you and that's that! When idesexual people have partners, they become the basis for their attraction. For example, idesexuals don't like blue eyes on boys. They like Micheal's blue eyes because they belong to Micheal who, happens to be a boy. Most people would say "boys/girls etc are cute!" Idesexuals say "people/this person is cute!" All of your features are just a plus to be enamored with.❤ *Not to be confused with demisexual/demiromantic as a strong emotional bond is not required to spark attraction.
When idesexuals/ideromantics fall in love it's like a pleasant and lovely thought that pops into one's head felt in the heart. Their infatuations swell, occupying the vague and uncertain area that is gendered attraction and, instead, replaces it with a name-- your name. The essence of you, the person of their affections, becomes their preference! Snugly, and with such warmth it leaves little room for anyone else.❤
Sapiosexual ≠ Idesexual
I'm going to get this out the way before it has a chance to be confused-- idesexual is not related to or basically the same as sapiosexual. It is its own, separate orientation. While it might be easy to switch them up since the root words and meanings both revolve around "thoughts," sapiosexual is about raw intelligence and brainpower in practice, (i.e how eloquently someone speaks, complex problem solving skills, or I.Q). As far as I understand, there's lots of debate whether to say sapiosexuality is valid and if it's offensive to identify with it as it's been construed as a product of ableism amongst neurodivergent and disabled communities. Idesexuality is more abstract; it is attraction to persons individually, the idea of a person, their character or, as many would describe,"personality"! Usually defined by a lack of physical preferences or not experiencing/comprehending gendered attraction. Idesexual/ideromantic is basically the retired definition of pansexual (attraction irregardless of gender) given a new name. So, there's your lesson for today!
