podcasts have the potential to be scarier than other types of media cause the main character has less plot armour. listen it's so much easier to kill off a main character when the only switch required is to stop listening to their voice and start listening to someone else's. the vaguely sentient recording medium has switched to someone else is way smoother than a jarring change of perspective and that ease puts us in a position where every time we think we've got used to a perspective, a description, a person, it could very easily be taken away
