I just had an idea for a Japanese-style Boys Love dating sim about the Blood Angels. You play as a new recruit, and all the romance options are other members of the chapter, who have personalities based on dating sim stereotypes--the tsundere fellow recruit, the veteran who’s reluctant to open up emotionally, maybe even get a hot-for-teacher plot with whoever the commanding officer is, etc.

Bonding opportunities involve fighting alongside your chosen romance option in battles against the Blood Angels’ enemies. These play out like mini-sessions of the W40K wargame. Bad endings generally involve your romance option dying in battle or going berserk. In a really bad ending, you might succumb to the Black Rage yourself.

And since every Japanese dating sim must have at least one wacky option, you can romance a Dreadnought. (The age difference is ridiculous.) His path involves telling him about your life, though you’re not sure he can hear you; making sure the other recruits respect him; and maybe even secretly helping the mechanics repair him. In his good ending, he’ll reveal that he’s awake and has been listening to you, and before going back to sleep, he promises to remember you for the rest of the time he’s in service.
