Imagine how much better life would be for autistic adults who cannot live on their own if all that money raised by Autism $peaks fundraisers over the years went to supporting group homes for disabled adults, better welfare for people who are unable to work and research in general of how to help make their lives easier instead of throwing money at a “cure” that doesn’t exist.

A teacher once said so my class something along the lines of “the only stupid questions are ones about something I’ve already explained”. As someone with a learning disability this is very hard for me because it takes me a while to absorb information and I have trouble understanding directions so I ask a lot of follow up questions and will need things explained more than once before I understand it. Do any other ND people have problems with this mindset?

I was reading some typical BS that dismissed neurodiversity as “high functioning autistics who want to see themselves as an oppressed minority” who ignore the awful tragic aspects of autism (sarcasm). Ignoring that functioning labels are arbitrary bullshit, autism is a spectrum not a sliding scale and that advocates who would get labeled as “low functioning” exist (Amy Sequenzia), etc, the existince of “low functioning” people doesn’t disprove the idea that autistics are human beings who deserve understanding and acceptance.

It’s difficult, obviously, but it’s worth making an effort to understand “lowfunctuoning” peoples feelings and thoughts simply because they’re human beings who deserve it to be listened to.

Autism Mom(tm) to NT child: be very careful on the internet ok don’t give away any personal information or talk to strangers you don’t know who could be out there and when somethings out on the internet it’s incredibly difficult to take back and can be impossible to remove so be careful about what you share

Autism Mom when autistic child is having a meltdown: Get the camera, I have to film this and put it on my mommy blog for all the world to see my child in their most vulnerable state!!
