( Astrid ; continued )
❝ Think of it as a message from a friend, ❞ the coo of a mother’s tone is hidden away beneath her cowl. In the open slit of her shroud, her eyes lingered on the archmage’s face. Astrid’s gloved hand rests upon the opened parchment, concealing the candlelight that made shadows dance along the yellowed paper, obscuring the content inside. Astrid folded it once to carry it with her on her journey, but now the note was open as if to say “Come on, take a peak” in the way an extended hand is more receptive than a crossed arm.
Astrid notices the shimmering ball of ice forming in between her fingertips, but she only gives the spectacle a passing glance. She knows the spell will pierce large icicles in her light armor, but Astrid has the confidence that she’ll be able to charm the archmage into sheathing her spell at this moment.
Her glove moves away from the parchment sitting on her table and she steps back, looking down at her while a grin pokes at the edges of her lips beneath the cowl. She tilts her head, watching the other with intrigue before she speaks in that calm, confident lilt of hers as if she’s not dressed in an assassin’s attire. ❝ Who would have thought an archmage would have made so many enemies? ❞ She ponders aloud, but a few answers already come to mind. Astrid was well aware that nobody is innocent, as much as they claim to be. ❝ But I have a solution, ❞ she adds right after, crossing her arms and letting her chin rest against her palm. This movement slowly tugs the red cloth a touch above her nose.
❝ That letter I gave you there, ❞ she points at the letter laid out on her desk, ❝ details an order for your murder. I know who penned the letter. If you make a contract with the Dark Brotherhood--with me--you will have this individual off your back. Then you can continue your studies without any interruptions. You are a studious scholar, are you not? We wouldn’t want any more distractions, would we? ❞ A grin tugs more at her lips and her eyes lower, portraying a sense of ease, relaxation, and conviction in her words. She truly believed she would be able to make a deal with her on the spot.
