MIAMI WEEK: FLASH POST 4

Building upon scavanged rainbow hearts and tomorrow’s rainbow-themed BOTB, this Flash Post is a task relating to the original Pride Flag. Designed in 1978 by Gilbert Baker, the flag had 8 colors with assigned meanings.

Hot Pink: Sex

Red: Life

Orange: Healing

Yellow: Sunlight

Green: Nature

Turquoise: Magic

Indigo: Serentity

Violet: Spirit

For this Flash Post Task we want you to reflect on how your character might connect to the above colors and their meanings. This task can be completed through written and/or visual elements via headcanons, moodboards, and aesthetic posts. Point distribution for this task is:

i’m looking for the crest of a new wave → orange (healing) & green (nature)

Being physically and mentally healthy was never a struggle and always a focus for Reggie, and as such, it’s greatly stunted her ability to emotionally heal.  Reggie learned at a young age to put her feelings aside in order to ensure things got done, and by having continued success with not being emotional, it became who she was. However, she doesn’t entirely realize it, which makes her have a lot of work to do in this field. While she loves the life in New York City, it’s in nature that Reggie is the most at peace. Sadly, she’s still overwhelmingly anxious of mountains, rocks, and high points, having never fully dealt with the fallout of her first accident. This keeps her within the NYC city limits most of the time, besides for camping or surfing.  Given the way she carries herself and seemingly endless confidence, it’s surprising how easy it is for Reggie to lose herself in her environment.  She’s mature for her age, but it can be clear she’s only a girl in mid-twenties by her lack of really knowing herself just yet. Mixing that with her generally stubborn-when-threatened nature makes it difficult for her to recognize her own emotional needs most of the time. To truly get her head on straight, Reggie often needs the slow paced lifestyle of being away from crowds to find her footing and get a better idea of what she wants. In her heart of hearts, she’s still just a girl from a small beach town in North Carolina. So if Reggie invites someone to go camping, it means she genuinely wants their presence around and believes it’d be good for both parties, no matter how unlikely. It’s no question that beaches and the ocean are where she feels the most serene, with any other bodies of water matching for the next slot. She can’t go places completely quiet, needing the crash of waves, rustles of leaves, chirps of birds and general sounds of nature to keep her grounded in reality while she sorts herself out.

tl;dr-- Reggie should go camping more often to better cope with 90% of her problems so jot that down 📝

HOT PINK & RED ● SEX & LIFE

Sex is a complicated matter for Haley. She grew up surrounded by free expression and open love in all its forms, so she’s never thought of sexuality or intimacy as things to be ashamed of. Rather, her upbringing taught her that physical closeness was a very natural thing, though now in her almost mid-20s, it’s had a bit of an adverse effect. She’s not familiar with what sexual attraction really is and doesn’t understand it’s differences from physical attraction. She’s heard the term asexuality and understands it as someone who doesn’t enjoy sex; what she doesn’t understand is that being physically attracted to someone doesn’t mean you want to bang them into next Tuesday. She enjoys sex. She gets off on sex. She fully understands the importance of consent. But she’s only felt genuine sexual desire before getting dirty with another woman a handful of times in her life. Some day, she’ll hear the word demisexual and its definition, and a light will turn on that she never knew existed in the first place. For the time being though, she is more than happy to get down with the lovely ladies who have made it known they enjoy her for more than just her stimulating conversation and deep human insight.

Haley’s most obvious type of intelligence (if we use the Gardner model) is bodily-kinesthetic, but she is also very high in naturalistic intelligence. Make no mistake, she’s not some earth genius by any means, but she finds herself most at peace when she’s out in nature or surrounded by sunlight. She’s never once kept a goldfish alive for more than two days, but she has an array of succulents and cacti on her windowsill that have flourished for months. She loves hiking and being outdoors as much as possible; the sole reason she begged her parents to buy a trampoline when she was a kid was so she could practice gymnastics while breathing in the fresh air and taking in the earth for all its worth. Haley is an absolute airhead, there’s no doubt about that. But she is someone who takes good care of her body, and in her mind, the best way to take care of your body is to surround it with the world in as natural a way as possible. Regardless of if it’s hiking, swimming, or simply falling asleep to the sound of rain hitting her window, there’s nothing that can recharge her batteries quite like mother nature.
