He watched as his teammate looked around the house with the sort of energy that only Lee would be capable of having. Of course there was a lot to be done in order to make sure that the house was baby safe, even more so since Neji was convinced that any child of Lee’s was bound to be just as much a bundle of energy as he was.
The fact that Lee is changing the home gym he worked so hard on in order to make room for the child makes this even more difficult. There’s so much that needs to be moved and patched up before the room is safe.
Patting the dark head of hair that is Metal, who he has carefully cradled to his chest, Neji starts to walk around the room with a critical eye. Ignoring the fact that Metal has both of his fists full of long, dark hair for the moment.
“ There’s a lot that needs to be baby proofed. We’ll need to put down new floors and cover up all of the holes and chipped pain on the walls. I know any child of yours is going to get in to absolutely everything if given the chance.”
As if to punctuate his words, the small child let out a gurgle of happiness and tugged enthusiastically at Neji’s hair. The Jounin winced, but tried not to let the ache in his skull distract him.
“ Maybe we should just put padding on every surface?”
this was going to be a lot harder than he thought.
lee took to every challenge like a fish to water, and would not stop until it was accomplished to the best of his ability, but baby proofing his entire home without the help of someone he believed would be the final piece in his small family was going to take some work. luckily, his rival didn’t think twice before offering his help in the wake of his partner’s sudden absence.
the way he scooped up junior in his arms upon first seeing him, and how quickly the infant settled in his grasp made lee think he had chosen the right person.
“he certainly is curious! i tried to get as many of the heavier pieces out this morning, but it is so hard when there is no one else to watch junior.” he deliberately forgoes mentioning the boy’s mother, it’s still a very sore subject for the new dad. he knows neji understands regardless.
“but with you here, i will clear out the rest of my equipment in no time! then we can get started on fixing things up. i appreciate you taking the time to keep an eye on him, i hope he does not pull too hard....”
lee moves from his exercise room/soon to be nursery back toward neji, leaning forward to coo in the boy’s face, “it will be the best nursery ever, is that not right? yes it is! are you happy neji-ojisan is here to visit?” the child sputters and giggles through a spit bubble. lee’s heart soars. he is so in love with this little thing, he can hardly stand it.

Shikamaru was sat on his favourite hill in the Nara forest. More often than not these days he was accompanied by a certain Hyuuga, like today. His eyes were barely open as he gazed at the clouds above, as he felt a sudden weight on his shoulder. Smirking he ran his fingers lightly through the others chocolate strands.
